  2. A few old pals are driving up Wednesday and staying locally in cottages....I've been before and had some good craic,. but nowadays I find the shouting, hollering and showboating to be a tad noisy and sadly predictable Spent a lot of time around traveling folk,....you get good and bad in most groups of people....I've some exciting memories and humorous anecdotes to remember,...and for all their failings,.. the tales of the genuine Romany Ryes,.. are never dull..

  6. My mate and I bought this lurcher off the p***y’s on Newcastle Town Moor in 1972 for £20. Thats my mate, by the way, not me ! They said it was a “staghound”, deerhound/greyhound. It turned out to be one of the best lurchers I’ve ever seen, and up to date is the only one I’ve personally seen that took 100 rabbits in one night on the lamp. So yes, it IS possible to get a good dog from the gypsies. Cheers.

  7. East London isn't the UK there's sharia courts in operation and witch doctors advertising death spells and suchlike, these people bring their mindset with them, remember Adam the torso in the Thames boy trafficked here to be sacrificed? These people don't think as we do.

  8. A few lads I used to know would make the pilgrimage every year. Load the lurchers and/or Bedlingtons into the pick up towing the caravan and after signing on would send their family holidays there. One of the few times a year that the dogs got out of kennels and the caravans moved out of the street.

  15. I have heard it can be a spectacular event though in all honesty i have never felt the urge to go and part of that is down to the shite and destruction some of the travelling community have left behind when they have camped up on public parks and football fields near me on their journey to Appleby.

  16. Me and my pal are camped at Alston right now , pulled in yesterday, traveled up every year together for last 20 years , camp at Hexham first night , carts bog 2 nd night , Alston for two nights then on to ousby , 90% of lads that travel this route have gone straight through to Appleby, evidently there is a field opened up early close to the fair ? So the town is rammed already

  19. I sympathise Ray, not sure many dog walkers would want my two. They are Jekyll and Hyde, going from sweet as you like to complete psycho for deer and unfortunately cats, in fact I had a similar injury to you earlier this year when they saw a muntjac, I didn't , and they pulled me so hard it wrenched my knee. After seeing a physio I used a brace with hinged metal struts and all was good after about 6 weeks Photo of my male whippet exactly as you describe, great fun for a bit of racing but loads of stress hunting as he has no concept of danger. Also at 36 lb he can pull like a train

  23. If we are now going to pretend that Wilder won a non partisan, legitimate world heavyweight title and wasnt just gifted a belt to ensure America still had a heavyweight champion then its worth remembering that Wilders best win was a 73 year old Luis Ortiz.....and in turn Luis Ortiz best win was an almighty struggle with Charles Martin......a man Joshua sparked in 2 rounds.......kind of puts Wilders career in perspective doesnt it......Wilders career is the biggest fraud since the Wba ranked a dead fighter 11th in their rankings for crying out loud !

As shark says one is panic and hysteria, but two is the fact they created the problem themselves by making it illegal to keep them as house pets in the 70s but never made it illegal to release them until the 80s though I do think there have been cats here since ww2 at least, mascots zoos and circuses were all subject to meat rationing so easier to let them go, the government department MAFF, now DEFRA actually employed a guy to catch big cats there is a trap called the Aldridge trap on the permitted trap register that he used it is still on there and the reason for using it states to capture l

His first trainer was a pal of mine training out of a gym i know well so i saw a lot of him early on Daniel had all the physical attributes you'd want in a young fighter, explosive fast, light on his feet....but a bit later on i saw him have a few spars that didnt fill you with confidence..... he was like a little boy in a mans body, his father was an absolute pain in the arse but someone Daniel naturally looked to in any kind of uncomfortable moment he was always a shy kid really unsure of himself and it was hard to watch at times.....personally i dont think you can put in what nature left out a

  29. One is a collie greyhound, big lad at 25 inches, much bigger than two other first x and heavier than a 3/4 cross I had. Refused to chase a lure for 3 years until I got our Whippet and now he doesn't want to miss out Whippet is ped out of a dog called Stig, unfortunately he's a little too big for ped racing but we have a lot of fun at club and country fair lure coursing. On timed dashes he's one of the fastest, interestingly in same event Whippet x greyhounds of the same height are often quicker. Probably the reason mine are muscle packed is my wife and I run canicross with them, it

Can’t see where this is 200 quid a meter, now I know it’s all random lengths and you just lay Yorkshire stone in random lines but at keepdiggin said it just looks like Indian sandstone and I can get that in about 12 different sizes for a quarter of the price and would of looked similar when down

  34. Long, long ago, I had a very good black non-ped whippet called Pot Black, 23” and 45lb; my mate had a black, non-ped whippet called Silly Rocket, 19” and 30lb. Anyway, your aforementioned Sunderland Greyhound Track had a time trial Open meeting on for whippets, with bookies in attendance. We, of course put the smaller, lighter dog in for the time trial, then swapped it for the bigger, heavier, far faster dog in the race, and even though the handicapper still just gave us scratch, we knew we were on a winner ! We put everything we had on it at 3-1, and it won by a distance !

  36. This week. Think I will go but it's not as good as in the past. For a start they are going to close all the pubs. There's always a bit of disorder but it seems a total overreaction to me. The fair must bring in many thousands of pounds to the town. In the past there was always a whiff of chaos in the air especially in the evenings. Nowadays the place is crawling with police and RSPCA personnel dressed to look like cops. In the past you could take a punt on a lurcher pup or buy chickens or goldfinches. But I haven't seen livestock for sale for a few years. However I'm still going. M

  39. We put a greyhound bitch to a top class stud dog which broke records all over the country. Result, all pups were duds. Waste of money for the stud fee. The dog we stopped, but subsequently won a race and got us into trouble, accidentally caught a young bitch on its first season. She was only 9 months old. Result a litter of crackers some of which went on to race at open level. We just didn't appreciate how good he was. He could take a hare too and always ran better after a kill. We kept him until he was 13.

  42. My Mrs has a lttle 'velcro' whippet . If she took that to the fair, some sod would distract her, grab it and sell it on. I cannot understand why folk drag their dogs around agricultural shows and fairs. Or why they dress in shooting and fishing gear when they are not pursuing those activities. Guess it's something to do with identity. This is me and here's my dog. Not comfortable for dogs at all.
