Lurcher men have been lurcher men's biggest enemy for a very long time. A friend showed me stuff recently that was posted on a group on facebook and it was a disgrace.8 points

Absolutely correct.........I can't think of one positive point to come out of the Hunting Act,foxes and hares have been slaughtered in thousands by guns since 2005 ,hares in particular and without the ban no where near the amount would have been shot. Hunts are still out, even though most antis thought that they would fold overnight, coursing is now a war zone on land that was once looked after by keepers and coursing clubs, the list goes on ..... apart from winning the"class" war as they think , the bigots behind it have achieved nothing. .7 points

Feeding this morning, pre shoot day, when I set off it was cold but clear, by the time I’d got on the top there was between 3 and 4 inches of snow, first port of call was the farm to load the quad with wheat and off to the forestry pen, that’s where the problems started. On getting to the pen there wasn’t a bird to be seen, so I walked around the back of the pen as I could hear a bird taking flight and going mental, where I was greeted with a black spaniel running riot, now I know that this little tw*t belongs to a lass that works for forestry, so off I went to find her as this is not the firs6 points

I honestly believe if you haven't got good bitches you've ain't got nothing, breeding for good dogs only will eventually lead you nowhere and has been the downfall of many a good line of both terriers and lurchers. Any serious dogmen I've known thought more of a good bitch than a good dog.4 points

I’ve always found bitches to be that little bit keener, sharper and faster than dogs and it easier to get a good bitch than a dog, there also seems to of been more champion bitches than dogs as shown in the forley results but if you get a good dog it’s worth it’s weight in gold as a good bitch that comes in season to often or at the wrong times you will never get the best out of it without jabbing it up which is easily done anyway when you know there cycles4 points

Tim Bonner: Poaching, the Hunting Act and why the hare is the loser WWW.COUNTRYSIDE-ALLIANCE.ORG The Countryside Alliance's Chief Executive, Tim Bonner, discusses recent action from the Government on tackling hare poachers. Cheers.4 points

It’s not mine it’s a mates. It came down hunting for a couple of days, it’s a young bitch not sure how old but under a year. The terriers are seasoned pros so it wasn’t really a fair comparison. But it picked up pretty quick, it travels through cover like a snake and gets wherever it wants, it had a good nose and could follow a line and spoke on hot scent. It was also very biddable and easy going. And it was just about the cutest dog you could ask to have about. I don’t think I would convert from terriers, I really don’t think you can beat a good one, but I can see the attraction and wouldn’t4 points

This is just my opinion and as it means nothing in my house I don’t expect it to mean anything here everyone does different types of shooting and in different ways, You need to try a few and see what works for you, if any. What works for one may not work for the other, if I was to go out with FH I’d use the lamp because that’s how he does it and it works for him, where as when I go down to Robin Foxers I use NV and thermal because that’s how they do it, there’s no right and wrong, just different ways and what works for you, around here some of the RFD’s do NV evenings where you can go and4 points

f**k me boys …didn’t you’d get the message . we weren’t wanted twenty years ago and we have been systematically and quietly pushed to one side since . Being able to take a tickle has been part of the game for over a decade , 15 years ago helicopters were trailing people chasing hares on fens . What you have today is that the cozzers are giving it back to you without as much as whimper from who will be next in line . Another part of our identity and culture consigned to the dustbin .4 points

Spot on Bosun ......The problem was each section of country sports went their own way, shooting and fishing didn't want to know us and ironically they will both be the next one's to get stitched up ,fox hunting were shameful in their behaviour, dog lads were hung out to dry and used as a bargaining tool ....... like you I'm 55 never had any permission, but proud to say have never smashed anything up never stole anything, just ran my dog and went home , even had a copper stop me one night and ask if I had a spare rabbit.......how different it was then ?3 points

That’s sort of what I was getting at. In all animals you only need a few good dogs to keep a line going but need good bitches and more of them. I think for strong work dogs have a natural advantage and can look better than they are because often they have things more their way. When you have a bitch that equals the dogs it usually means she’s punching above her weight and is a truly remarkable animal.3 points

Am 90% sure 2 bitchs won derby in past 20yrs and in past 10 yrs before the ban only 2 bitchs won Waterloo Suncrest Tina being 1 of them that’s just off top of my head mind in greyhound racing bitchs seem to be better marathon performers but before a get gunned out there has been some brilliant marathon dogs too.3 points

Yep . I reckon all these mole- catching registers are counterproductive in many ways. They give an impression to the public that anyone not on the "approved" list is probably not a proper mole- catcher. In truth only a minority of mole-catchers are members of these Organisations. In truth, any good mole-catcher has no need to be a member of any of them to get work. They also have no need to dance to any tunes whistled by the founding Masters and Grand Dragons of these minority groups . There was a time when simple folk such as myself regarded Phillips cassette3 points

Maybe it’s just because a lot of lads with serious lines of dogs keep more bitches as that’s the brood animal and it’s easier to go to a stud than find a good brood bitch. I’ve always found in general it’s easier and more consistent to get a good dog but a good bitch is something to see. I’m thinking of bull x types there though.3 points

Totally agree mate trouble is we all get tarred with the same brush. My eldest daughter walks a young lurcher with her springer for a partially disabled woman who lives near her as some scumbag with a litter of lurchers convinced the woman on line it was a small crossbred pup and charged her 500 pound for it that's turned out to be a 25tts lurcher that she can't really cope with if it was not for my daughter walking it everyday. Last week wile she was walking it on a public footpath nr an old pit tip were she lives the springer flushed a roe and the young lurcher gave chase a man walking a dog3 points

Just seen a recent clip on YouTube were some antis are giving a beagle pack some grief and the huntsman told the antis they wouldn't be hunting because of illegal hare courses in the area you couldn't make the shit up he was coming out with.2 points
