  8. Great post Sandymere: I've written about feet too, on more than one occasion. Poorly maintained claws are a real hate of mine, can't stand seeing dogs with long claws. One of the Airedale lurchers has appalling feet, which are made worse by the fact that her toes were never strongly arched to begin with (the fault of her dam, the Airedale, which is surprising to say the least). Couple long, flattish toes with mega strong claws that grow very fast, and it's a recipe for problems. I have to use a nail grinder to file them down every 10 days or so, and using the grinder means you can take the cla

  9. I wrote about nail length a good few years ago, when I advocated medium length to reduce injuries whilst leaving enough to give traction/grip. This means that when a dog is standing in a relaxed position the nails should be just clear of the ground. This allows the tendons under the toes to be fully flexed and the toes to sit up in a natural position with the extensor tendons over the toes to be fully extended. But when running the flexor tendons will flex to drive the, reasonable length, nails into the ground to give maximum grip. When the nails are kept too short grip is reduced, much l

  11. Took Green Lurchers out for a few hours trolling a few Rapala's in search of a few Bass,me and a pal have a small boat and a spot which does quite well on a dropping tide so we sorted a trip for sunday. We set off in lovely conditions with high water just about there so we had a hour or so to just chug around and see if we could pick up something before the tide ran hard,my pal was first to hook up and poor old GL's face when it went back as it was a tad under size as he had his cool box already open and was dribbling at the chops with the thought of fresh Bass on a barbee ,well the tide turne

Not pulling the pic and maybe it's not always on the chain, but seen a dog hanging while on a chain in the same sort of place mate, the dog had gone beyond the coping bricks and when it had jumped down the chain didn't pull over the lip.I was weighing in some bricks at a rec yard and it was the owners dog and it would have died had i not just turned up during dinner hour..Fare to say the fella knocked the chain off the wall there and then and tied the dog up else where.

One was knocking out Pike after Pike as the water was just clearing, tried and tried to get him to let me have a go, stuffy twat kept saying oh I can't do that. So decided to tell him how I saw a nice Salmon must have been close to 20lb "oh we don't get them to that size in the Exe" Oh right I said. Walked away smiling it was 19lb 14oz Lol came out on reinforcing tying wire made into a snare. Cheers Arry

  32. Well out again for a couple of hours, my mate seemed a bit happier today and I like to think some of that is down to me getting him out and about, so first off we head to the foot of the moors on the hunt for rabbits with the .22 and .17hmr, managed a couple but spent most of the time there watching a lovely roe buck and it turns out he’s got a bit of an injury to a rear leg so we may be back to take him in the near future, after that we headed back to the posh gardens where we accounted for another 11 between us before we lost the light, I’m starting to enjoy the.17 more and more, tonight was

  33. A few nights ago i was asked by a mate to go and wait over a cut grass field with him on one of his farms. We arrived at about nine thirty and decided where we would both go. I was to get tucked under some overhanging trees on the left side of the field, he would go to the other side against a hedge. Both of us would be looking towards a long wood at the end of the field approximately two hundred yards away. This is a cracking farm for foxes and always has been. It is a long wood with a river running along it's length at the other side of it. Foxes follow the river along and when they find the

As I read this I’m waiting by one of my pens for a fox that has been showing up , our paths have crossed on more than one occasion, but I’ve not managed to get a shot off yet . It’s getting to that time when he might pop out . ?
