Ya it was never easy. My late father never cared about money whenever he got abit together he bought something whether it was a house or a yard or a bit of ground. We had a lot of hardship through the years and there was seriously bad times and bad things happened but now I can say that we managed to weather a storm and I’ve been able to live well on it all and please god my kids will be able to do the same. Unless Scotty is telling the truth. f**k me years clocked up locked up between us all and fights with CAB and Revenue will all have been for nothing. I’m a nervous wreck thinking about it

Couple of days down the south hams. Had an early morning walk along the coastal path with the misses and my lad. Misses got herself a busher type a couple of years ago as a pet but she’s turning out to be a decent worker!! Also took my bitch to get some fitness work in.

I know exactly what you mean by "volling" but never heard that term mate. I actually saw a salmon jump couple of weeks back in the exe estuary... boat played up so me and Fin had a few casts off exmouth dock wall, I was looking up river and a decent one came our a good few feet... still got me excited lol... Used to sit at Salmon Pool weir, up above countess Weir and watch them leap the weir, I think that weir collapsed a few years back... that was one of the main pools my mate poached back in those days, night time Gill netting.. lol

I was on a crew on the Dart Kev. All gone now they took all the license away must have been about twenty boats when I was a boy crew. Slowly dwindled, first the Fly fishermen bought the licence then they stopped renewing them. In the end two or three boats wasn't worth doing no salmon. River is full of seals and no fish now, they used to take a few out you can imagine the outcry now if you even talk of a cull. Fond mémoires of sitting on the fore shore waiting for a salmon to jump or on a calm day see one as we called it volling (not sure of the spelling). Volling was a salmon traveling
