My bitch grabs them by the front leg, trips them, then switches to the snout....stops them making a noise and sucks the last bit of life from them lol..8 points

For muntys you want a dog that wants to kill it quick. The dogs needs a throat hold. They scream like mad and the bucks can thrash and cut a dog quite badly if it’s just grabbing a leg and not trying to kill it.. you can’t teach a throat hold, that’s just instinct in some dogs. My old coursing dog was a leg grabber…. Caught loads of deer but killed very few. If muntys are your game, your dog will need to be good in cover.. large coursing dogs aren’t suited to this.. their legs are too long and aren’t fast enough in thick cover to keep up. Great for lamping them but daytime hunting is a differe8 points

Up on Dartmoor again hoping to hear the Cuckoo and see the fields of Blue Bells at Emsworthy Mire. Well Seen and heard the Cuckoo one landed for about two seconds above our head. Blue Bell looks like couple weeks time. Loads of twitchers after photos of the Red Starts and Cuckoos. If anybody is down in a week or two Emsworthy and Halwell lawn will be a mass of Blue Bell. Acres of them. Think this is a Willow Warbler Not very good photo I'm afraid of a Red Start. Few little Thumpers. Couple os ponies in the distance on to7 points

Had a pistol one in my youth. Got a full size one about a year ago for a play, I sold it in a few weeks wasn't for me. Even on my permissions they will draw unwanted attention and the general public have a very dim view of them I think. Around here all the clowns idiot's and wanna be drug dealers have had them , over the years and recently actually some idiot had shot one of the sheep and it was running round with a bolt in it a farmer told me. Ok for genuine enthusiasts and clubs ect, but to powerful and to easy to get for idiot's. I much prefer archery with a traditional stick and string bow5 points

We know you fecking know everything but like i say i've taken hundreds of them with lurchers over the years and to so as a main prey item as such you need a dog with some build to it,them feckers hit dence cover without slowing and you need a dog built to be able to do so to and a coursing bred dog ain't built like that..There'll take them in the open yes i know but most muntie hunting isn't done far away from cover and a tight or thin skinned dog will get itself a few scars along the way..5 points

Iv'e caught hundreds of the things over the years and the best dog i saw was mine on them, she was built like a brick shithouse but only 23/4 inches tall and had a dose of bull in her.She loved teeth as well and she loved the ruck a muntie can give back at times and iv'e seen the next best small deer dog )chinks, munties, roe) killed by a muntie putting it's antler through the dogs neck and out it's ear, that dog was coursing bred saluki type..I'd go for a heavier bodied dog than a saluki x and one with some bottle in the line as there tough little buggers and iv'e stitched up a lurcher more than5 points

Just back from Mull and saw 2 cuckoo's there, tons of willow warblers, goldcrest and siskin too. Highlight was whitetail eagles up close a few times around the cottage, made the ravens harassing them look small!4 points

Pet subject of mine, as in my experience Muntjacs are a huge pain in the arse distracting dogs from rabbiting Hard to find a dog that isn't keen on them and they will run even from impenetrable cover when they sense a dog is very close. Dogs lose them in dense cover for sure, but any keen dog will put them up initially and given muntjacs seem to like to be close to manmade environments I end up keeping my dogs on leash more than Id like. A decent dog quickly closes on a muntjac, there's a lot of noise and it's not a risk I will take. Completely different to Roe which will embarrass4 points

No expert but I do enjoy the calls of the various birds, and particularly songbirds. Think I posted on another thread that the song thrush is maybe my favourite of them all. Other favourites include: A robin singing solo on a dark winter morning, weeks before the other birds have even thought about spring, but brings a bit of hope that it’s on its way. A Skylark in a field on a hot cloudless summers day, where there’s that hum of insect life all about you, and you have to squint up into the bright blue to try and spot the lark, a mere speck in the sky. What if they like to run fallow regularly, they ain't doing better than good bull crosses, they just won't have the power or the stomach for it when you encounter a specimen that doesn't want to play ball.3 points

A kid shared on FB the other month a black & tan coursing bred pulling a fallow buck on the lamp. They just have to find the knack to pull them over and have the bottle to take the licks to be good deer dogs.3 points
