No different buying a pup off a stranger on here, than getting one off pets 4 homes, just because it’s called the hunting life doesn’t really mean anything7 points

The one great worry I have in life is the future of my autistic son, he's as bright as a button and as strong as an ox for his age but as soft as butter, the most loving child any parent could ask for, the true apple of my eye. But I fear the thing that makes him the beautiful human he is will be the thing that allows him to be taken advantage of and cause him pain. I know yourself and a few other lads on here have autistic kids so can relate.7 points

Good thread this, interesting to see people's takes on happiness in work/life and what different people see as success... no two people are the same in that regard.. From my side of things... I'm a bit of a workaholic, it could be seen as a fault perhaps, but that is my character, I'm not one for sitting down much and genuinely enjoy being busy, I feel guilty (or thar sort of feeling) when I'm not "at it"... I think I've always been that way... I'm also a gambler and enjoy the risk/reward of business, been self employed since I was 18, so am past worrying about anyone other than me makin6 points

My eldest grandson has autism though not as severe as some and due to his mother's strict stance with him he works at a place near his home that makes high end sheds and summer houses and such like and is very conscientious at his work fortunately he his surrounded by a decent bunch of lads but worries a lot about his job when work drops off. It makes me sick when I see young lad's around me stinking of skunk and hanging around local shops being a nuisance the same age who have never done a day's work in there lives .6 points

My boy is just about to do his work experience at school, they have to pick 3 different places. He is the normal 16 year old lad and was a bit slow sorting things out so me and his mum sorted it out for him ! Lol ……..he is sporty so one was a gym but we thought it would be a good idea that he got some experience and humbleness out of his comfort zone……. so the others are a local printers run by a service that looks after adults with intellectual disabilities and the printers employs those people (similar to the Remploy we have been talking about) The other is a charity shop, absolu6 points

My opinion on the remploy factories is they should have been kept open. I would have not begrudged any of my tax going to support these places of work tbh.6 points

Anyone remember the Remploy Factories, whatever happened to them ? There was a one next door to a place I worked. They would employ mentally and physically handicapped people, on a very basic wage, doing low level assembly jobs. I thought they were a good idea, it got them involved, a sense of purpose and a bit more money than benefits. I think those jobs have now been outsourced to the private sector. My local Asda has a young lad and lass, who are quite obviously “not all there”, they don’t seem to do much but stand around, never on the tills or even stacking shelves, but they are6 points

Been in the building trade from age of 15, served my time as a joiner, left school or was told to leave school for showing little interest, truancy and generally being a fcukin pest. Dogs ferrets, poaching and birds eggs were my downfalls (especially peregrines lol). Could make more 2 nights on the salmon than I had for a wage fir a week. Regrets very few all I've done was off my own back, so when I got away with it it was great, when caught well that was that lol. With 3 kids and the building trade being classed as casual labour a mortgage was always out my reach, also the fear of 3 kids and6 points

At one time I'd jump on a plane and go anywhere to do a bit of hunting or see dogs work. Still got a few things planned. I was jealous when I saw the fun my missus had North of the Arctic circle, sled dogs, reindeer, ice fishing, etc. Thought "I've got to have some of that " ! Cheers.5 points

Never been into drugs, coke is rife now and lads I never thought would be into it ate at it, each to their own but they lie and try and cover up when you're in their company, I guess they are embarrassed as a mid 40s bloke with a family shoving shit up their nose in a pub bog...classy! Lol Like a drink in good company, never drink just for drinkings sake, but if there is a good craic, bit of music etc then I enjoy a pint or 2...4 points

Rch Kinky Boy ( Bilko x The Kink). Racing champion on straights and bends. I had two match races against it with one of my dogs in 1972 and beat it both times. Decent money back then, but lost the next match race, still up over the three matches though . Cheers.4 points

Went to grammar school and did fairly well; went on to do an apprenticeship in electrical engineering with a mechanical section bit got kicked off 6 weeks before completion. Did some casual factory work before doing door to door sales for a bit and then ended up in a call centre for 7 years. f****d that off for bait collection; been doing it full time 18 months now and love it. Best part is I've not had to miss a single sports day, school play, parents evening etc.4 points

I think you probably prove the saying " The harder you work the "luckier" you get." I guess l was "lucky" through circumstances though. I stayed-on in 6th form not because l liked school or was particularly bright but because l had no idea about what sort of job l wanted. When the day came to leave I threw myself on the mercy of the Youth Job Centre who told me to go for interviews at a couple of local engineering companies. They sent all the boys to these two companies and the girls were all guided to shop work of nursing. I didn't fancy it so went to the proper Emplo4 points

Another little story, I had a lad work for me called Bradley…...well, actually he worked for a lad that worked for me but it amounted to the same thing. This lad was as thick as shit !!……I don’t mean a little bit divvy, I mean this lad was boarder-line retarded !! You could have slapped this lad into Eaton, Oxford, Yale and Harvard and given him Albert Einstein as his personal tutor and he would have still took his own eye out with a pencil ! He has progressed and is a dustman now and fair play to him, that’s way more than anyone could have ever expected and probably what4 points

Had the caller on last night at a place I go on, vixen in heat call but didn’t get anything to take the bait. However on the walk back to the farm, this massive dog fox and vixen were almost side by side, I shot the dog and turned round and the vixen just carried on mooching about, not 50 yards away! She got the same treatment. How on earth she didn’t spook when I shot the dog I don’t know. Weighed the dog this morning, 17.5lbs. A good night after all3 points

Had a good think about this before answering mackem, and the answer is no, you see the University experience was priceless, outside my exam weakness I learnt a lot about life and how to rub along with people, how to deal with being excluded, and what to do when you are included i'm always the guy who talks to the person on the periphery, why.... because i've been there! I'm proud of that. I also enjoyed aspects of the study, lectures were of interest. There are other positives, there was a 3 to 1 female to male ratio at my college!! So a cracking question mackem, but i've given you an ho3 points

No one seems to have an answer. To be truthful I haven't looked that deep into the cause but more into ways to help with his progress.3 points

Drink can be evil and changes people without them or others realising where the problem is coming from. I feel so much healthier having stopped drinking, my sleep has improved 10 fold. It's rare I have more than 1 pint a week now and that's just out of habit and enjoying calling in country pubs3 points

Good for him mate, people don’t realise the incredible effort it takes for autistic people to do things that we would all regard as “normal” Sound like the firm he works for are a decent lot.3 points

I didn't try in school but still got half decent results, never went to pick my certificates up and never needed em since. Went gamekeeping from school, then into hunt service. A few years farming and eventually working for myself doing pest control. Always thinking of changing career, looked into law and started the entry levels but I'm mid forties now and I'd be looking at sixty before I was getting anywhere. Working for myself means I work my own hours, never get up before 8 and can usually go up the shoot or for a pint by 3. Always wanted to run a little butchers shop sin3 points

I just asked on the Ozzydoggers site if anyone would like to take an old Pom out hunting and I was inundated with offers! I went down there for three months and had the time of my life ! Same with New Zealand, only went there for a month and had a go at pig hunting. Had an invite to run hares in Southern Ireland, only ran two , caught none but great fun Was invited to meet Sheik Hasan Ghunaim in Dubai, went over for a month and saw his kennels in Abu Dhabi and his falcon mews in Dubai. Been invited up Scotland a few times including four days on permissi3 points

You can earn as much as you like, you can be the richest man on earth but you can’t buy 5 minutes ago mate…..kids don’t remember money, they remember their dad. I made that choice 22 years ago and I don’t regret it one bit…..I was happier watching sports day or having my ears broken at a recorder recital than having to listen to some wretch tell me how important their project was and earning a grand. Im not saying everyone should be like that, it’s just how I thought.3 points

Of course, putting a top class non-ped over a coursing bred bitch might just mean the progeny wouldn't need to take 10-12 minutes to catch a hare............PMSL ! Cheers.2 points

Don’t think of it as terrible mate, think of it as great……we both know Labour will be every bit as anti British and probably worse than the current mob and hopefully they will make things much worse……if “much worse” pushes voters towards finally making a different choice then that’s a good thing imho The fact we all know Labour is going to win tells us voters are not in the right mental space just yet to change their own outcomes Terrible is what, imho, will ultimately fix this2 points
