I always liken it to the Only Fools & Horses episode where they finally cop a fortune and the next day Dels on the blower trying to do a deal for some toasters or something When you've chased money a long time and you finally get it the anti climax can often take you by surprise. Ive had a pretty unconventional life and never really had a " job " type job to actually retire from in the first place but when i did eventually find myself in a position where i had more than i needed i went through that same anti climax of " what do i chase now then ".......but i think you end up ch

Before lockdown I spent 8years doing civils as a subby for southern gas.Mostly deep ex over hp pipelines, anything within 3metres was hand dig.Thats what really done the damage. My left ankle/knee/hip are all shot through constant stomping on the spade and my left elbow from chucking out.My right hand side feels no different to when I was 20.Any more than half an hour digging now and Im walking round like a spaz for 2 days afterwards. And in an ideal world mygirl would live with her mum and wed hare custody but unfortunately her mum is unwell so I do what needs doing.Ive never had the time of day

Massively mate I live in an area rich in sightings so sitting out all night with a caller going and a more expensive thermal should see some decent results plus I will be at liberty to jump in the motor and go at short notice, I absolutely loved the week I spent in Cumbria last year tracking everything was so much easier got quite a bit of stuff when I was there considering I was just dropped on a mountain I’d never seen before, Have never felt so alive as sat up a mountain after dark with no contact with the outside world no WiFi,phone signal, light pollution or other people

  12. you might be right , but the way i see it, if the old dogs in question have deff give 100% in the hunting field all there life , i think it only fair to the animal to show some compassion to it . dont get me wrong if you had fecker dont hunt for and only him self, picks his runs, or wont do a fox, or bigger stuff, etc. i wouldn't keep it . so if they been hard working dog for 8- 9 years i look after them. it very rare that you have kennel full of all similar ability , thats why there lot in pounds etc .My last 2 dogs bryn who was very good rabbit dog, but nothing else . i wanted dog do

One thing that sort of work does....is it wears you out if your a grafter....Im a few yrs behind you...but every winter , I'm feeling it more couldn't keep up with spending all weekend digging to my dogs in the season and punching my gutts out Monday to Friday too... family, work and bills had to come first... Fair play taking on full custody of your daughter, not every Man is capable of doing that

  25. This thread gets me thinking about some one I work with who is 70 next who is for ever moaning about the tax he pays because he has decided to carry on working in the boring mundane job we do. His house is paid off and his wife gets the state pension aswell his only hobby is going to watch one of the Sheffield football clubs play when they are at home. He is the most boring individual I have ever come across in the workplace one of his excuses for carrying on working is he gets bored at home. I think to myself thank feck I have not got the same mindset as this individual as I am counting down

  26. Finished the bee keeping course last night. Very interesting subject. I won't be pursuing it right now but think I will in the future. I thought it was stick some bees in a box and later in the year get some honey. It's a lot more intensive than that and I have enough plates spinning at the minute. Glad I did the course instead of reading up a bit and getting some hives!

  27. “Defined by my work”….that’s a brilliant and very overlooked observation there mate. I didn’t realise how much a part of my personality my way of earning a living was…….I feel like almost a completely different person and in some ways I miss “that bloke” now and again. However, things are always better in the memory than in reality and what I don’t miss is how the world of business is full of pricks now instead of proper chaps, I don’t miss traffic wardens and £2k a year in parking tickets and fixed penalty’s and VOSA, I don’t miss the government helping themselves to my hard work, I

  28. Somewhere between Christmas and New year, I picked up a catty for the first time since being a kid. In the hunt for accuracy, Ive tried five different frame widths, numerous band sets, ammo sizes, TTF, OTT etc. and I've finally got my first kill today. Wasp Wolf, precise .6mm yellow bands, 100mm active length, 19/11mm taper. 8mm steel ammo. Took a pigeon off a lamp post at about 15 yards. Over the moon. Also picked up a new knife today. We'll see how it holds its edge

I’ve got 3layers i keep them in a omlet cube on hard standing with scratch material in the run I dump food waste in the run for them to eat an scratch. every month or month an a half it gets dug out an on to the compost heap I’d not recommend having them free roaming if you have a

  38. In all fairness Tats its a lovely frame. I've got some TTF frames which fit my hand better but I can't quite get accurate enough with them. I like pinch grip but I've been shooting this with a thumb brace. I've got one other OTT frame which fits perfectly but it's wrap and tuck type which is fine but with the tapers I've been shooting, the bands don't last me a week and always seem to go at the worst times. Atleast with the clip type I can swap them out on the go within a minute. Out of all the stuff I get up to, going out with the catty and dog is my favourite, I think it's the simp

  45. Getting rid of the 3rd world would be a massive step towards restoring national pride and self belief, there will also be more resources for our own who are in need and find themselves fallen on hard times…..create the conditions for us to be us again and everything will look after itself. Our own people having to get by with the assistance of the state are such a small part of the UK problems as to be not even worth a mention…..in fact, they don’t even figure in the equation.
