  1. Never mind knowing them, are there five great lurchermen in existence..?? Too many variables IMO to call that one, though I do like the question. Lurchers are used in a multitude of ways, on differing land, on a multitude of quarry species... How do you call that??? Though, for me, as much as I know plenty of lads who I admire, that keep and work just the one type, which suits them. I'm sure they would be honest enough to change if need be. The desire to hunt effectively and efficiently should always outweigh kennel blindness.
  2. There are pure stock to tried and tested lines if you know where to look....
  3. If that Plummer was an earth dog then I'd see it as no different than any other type (breed) BUT in the world of working terriers worker to worker is only the best base line option, far more thought is needed when you want the best from a union.
  4. Cheers Darbo I will. I've got a copy of Green And Pleasant Land, bought it not long after I wrote this review. I should have written another review because it's as good a read as Come Dawn, if not better. I'd urge anyone with an interest in all things countryside past to buy either and drift back.... Oh and how good is it that L.Mursell has done a Google search and found the site....
  5. Used to be a decent match dog back in the 80's called The Goose
  6. If I remember correct Plummer used Patterdale (Fell), one of Nigel Hinchcliff's dogs at one point, wasn't Pagan out of that stuff. Think he considered Nuttall's dogs also?
  7. Can't really say as it all depends on the mood.... Seafood, all of it, i'd run through walls to eat it. Roast dinners, our own, on a cold winter Sunday. Curry's, them and Doctors are the best thing about immigration, love 'em! A big 'ol steak, rare, just take its horns off, wipe it's arse and show it the pan....! The good 'ol sarnie (or butty, if around these parts), make it as funky as ya want it, make it alone, just for you and make it with love. And when i've worked like a b*****d, me Ma's egg an chips, runny eggs and big, fat, dark home made chips, with half a loaf
  8. Stop fecking about with 'em an get 'em in a pan... Mungryme!
  9. I'm 47, up until 5 years ago I lived inner city. I walked/exercised my dogs daily, usually more than once but I looked for the quiet specs and the quiet times. Other than that, feck all you can do....
  10. In my mind, looking back, the most used stud dogs usually come with owners that crow the loudest. Can't recall any 'quiet men' who have/had well used studs....
  11. Good post Dixie, I get ya and agree with ya. Personally I've never associated, nor used the word gameness when talking about Working Terriers and in that I mean earth dog. I loved that post Voon put up, makes good sense to me but father along the posts there seems some confusion with what that post really means. I simply read it as someones best method of producing, what traits you are producing ate entirely up to the individual producing them, no more no less. In working terriers my 'old school' priority's would be the traits of finding and staying, for which ever way a dog chooses to
  12. Yep, get the stone out, top soil and turf, don't forget to break up the compact soil you already have, to aid drainage for the new grass, before you put your top soil down BUT remember also... It ain't the best time for either seed or turf.... So, water water water!!
  13. Cracking stuff Voon, makes bloody good sense and a interesting read too.
  14. Always thought StJohn was a decent bloke, even if he was from across the park! Good jump as a pundit too, him and Jimmy Greaves, Saint & Greavsey, paved the way for the modern approach to pre-match television. I hope he's on for Radio City come the new season. Good that ya got it out Stan, I'll betya it did make a difference....
  15. Near 30 years back, a mate put a spaniel over his hard bitten fell type digging bitch. We all thought he was mad but what came out worked just about all they could be worked on at that time, week in week out for all their lives. He later put the bitches back to a beagle and the results were better and were worked equally as hard BUT if I was going to choose 'one' to work alongside my lurcher as a lone busher, those first crosses would win hands down.
  16. I'd agree and if Woy uses those all to prove, go-getting kids. I'm gonna stick my neck out and say this cup may surprise a few...
  17. Oh, I did suffer one bout of road rage. And just for once I let it slide... Me and two mates (three's usually a crowd but these two made any night comedy gold!) were out lamping, miles from anywhere. Driving down a single tracker the head lights hit a bloke running for all his life ahead of us. His run was funny and as we got closer we realised he was a dwarf. 'Where the fucks he off', we thought and my mate pulled up along side him, still running flat out, to find out! At about 5mph along side him my mate wound down the window and before he said a word, the bloke turned toward him, with
  18. Aye, suppose when it's like that it would give you a start and yes, best to simply shrug your shoulders and leave it there. Never let it eat at you, that sort of stuff ruins lives.
  19. Bull V's Collie stuff.... Oh fecking spare me.... Russ, you own and work a 'Lurcher' and there is gonna be a new addition in the shape of a working Border Collie about the house, don't even bother asking the question, just get the cur out and see what it can do. Just remember, it ain't no Lurcher. Have no expectations, just a bit of fun and ya never know, it may surprise you...
  20. No, never been a victim of road rage, never received it nor dealt it and I'm thankful for that, because i simply wouldn't tolerate it, no matter what the circumstance.
  21. We are talking about the first book JB did not the fell terrier.....doh, Oh, ok. Though how were those names you put up meant to do that... Through Ojigi board...
