  2. On site at first light at the permission. Big old wood pretty open but hard to keep eyes on the dog. He hit a scent straight away and I tried to keep up but took my eyes off him for a second and he was gone. I couldn't hear a thing and had no idea which way he went. Thoughts of saving for a garmin entered me head lol. As I was walking a rabbit popped up infront of me and I automatically shouted rabbit. Then I heard thud thud behind me and the black fella came flying along. He got his head down but couldn't pin it. Bit further then another got up and I had a good view of the dog belting down t

  7. I doubt you will ever be able to call off a scent and don't both trying if you know its not going to work. As for the range thing either get the dog walking at heel full time unless you say other wise. I never managed that lol or teach a reliable stop which is pretty easy it seems then you can stop the dog if it gets to far ahead and gives you control at range. I know what you are saying though if I am with in a couple of fields of a main roads I am extra careful and stick a lead on if there's any doubt as if he hits a scent he will cover that in seconds. Its takes time as well years it se

  15. His a collie grey x bull grey. Lovely dog bright as any thing. Very very keen not sure if thats good or bad lol and there are times when I thing christ chill out a bit. His far from perfect though at least in my hands . But he does me and we have fun and its getting better as time goes on
  16. Seeing a dog work or hearing that rumble of a rabbit about to bolt its priceless. Just pitting your wits to catch some thing with a net or a snare. Walking the fields with a longnet tucked away in darkness all priceless
  17. Never taught mine to jump quite happy throwing him over stuff. But as time has gone on when in pursuit he has started taking on some big fences clearing all sorts. I would rather he didn't as I can see whats going to happen knowing my dog

The days of big nights and days are gone I just dont have the ground for it in this day an age any more Nipped out for an hour tonight and fed the ferrets and filled the fridge
  19. thats a refreshing outlook on things I have to say . But the biggest worry is a dog you have had being loyal for years getting a mistreated by some some dipstick
