  6. collie/grey bull/grey and I thought at 26 inch he might be a bit big for my ground but he accelerates and goes like sugar off a shovel.
  7. Had that a few times when as an after thought I have tried my old jill who finds no messing and the daft old hob has failed to find. On the other hand the lurcher will get it wrong not often though. I wouldn't call it a false mark as such just he likes to be through . Often if he can't get in the hedge to check the hole he expects me to do it. He will some times mark a bush and won't move on until its been checked out. But I have learnt to go with him because loads of times he has found some thing where I would never dream there being any thing. He will often go to a hole then back track fi
  8. I remember the old tin bath well and sharing the grand parents bath water the joys lol. That kitchen cupboard brings back memories we had a yellow one. Cracking things could do with one now better than the rubbish we have in the kitchen now
  9. Well home at 4.30 now normally its lead on the dog and straight back out as he usually busting because he won't go in the yard. But today I had a rabbit soaking in the fridge so needed to get that in the oven ticking over so i wasn't eating too late. The dog was laying there with his legs crossed hanging on and in the end gave in and went in the yard. So I thought hang on lets have a cuppa till bout 5 be getting dark and take the lamp Beats boring old walks down the road. So bout 5.10 we were entering the first field. Lamp on and a rabbit the far side not hanging about which was to be expec
  10. I love it mate my nan used to make a suet pudding to go with our stew. Delicious with a lovely golden brown crunch top
  11. just watched that looks great. I am a big fan of suet pastry too
  12. there just used to be a couple of strands for the cattle but there is a new fence now on the edge of the wood. The barb has been there got to be well over thirty years and it was like new and sharp as hell. Seemed to be coated. In places there was just a single strand between trees chest height made me shudder. I all ways worked the other side of the wood but sods law rabbits all ways take him that way. His not exactly lucky either so well worth doing
  13. Ray that has all been proven to be nonsense ... that was the thinking back in the ,s and onwards etc but three separate scientific facilities have carried out studies using hundreds of people and proved there is no harm from animal based saturated fats .......Spot on.. The original advice was flawed, everyone cut out fat and the population ballooned in weight.. Sugar and other carbs. Think back to the times when everyone ate all their fat, butter and dairy and people were as thin as bloody rakes! Makes sense I was raised by my grand parents and they were skinny but wiry and fit/tough as
  14. After saturday ferreting the dog had a couple of runs with no ill effects. I had a bit of energy in the tank the wind was blowing so I thought why not. No big trip just grabbed the dog and lamp and walked out the door to a couple of fields up the road. First was empty as expected but when got to the gateway I would expect maybe one there and sure enough. Nice rabbit well out sat there clear as day. Sent the dog off and as a rule he would have stalked up but after being out of action he went hell for leather. Spectacular run and I had forgotten how fast he is. The rabbit went through a floode
  15. The daughter joined the slow cooker group and saw they were cooking breakfasts in one and she gave it a go and did grub for her and her sister. She did ask if I wanted any done as well but I declined she was just testing and it turned out well I had kippers and steamed sweet spuds
  16. christ sake ray put a right downer on me dripping lol
  17. Yep beef dripping with that nice beefy jelly just under mmmmm had it loads as a kid with the grandparents. Just don't seem to get it much off the beef now a days unless I am doing some thing wrong
  18. My beddy whippet never used to be that big a fan of cover she was ok. But not great. My present dog who is 26 inches is more inclined to hit the cover to be honest. But others on here there's are great in cover so bit of luck involved I guess. If I wanted one I would go the spaniel types just going by what I have seen on here A terrier would be a risk around my area seeing as its the local holiday spot for badgers
  19. biggest con for me is lugging them about. As rabbits are thin on the ground I need to cover a bit of ground and its one rabbit here one there. So most the time I can't justify carrying them about. 4oz seems to be the way to go short stop nets are handier for me
