Yes I bet your pointer was ideal for that giving you time to get sorted before sending him in. With the lurcher its a bit pot luck how long the rabbit with sit tight

Just walked the dog this morning. Took the ferret and few nets. Picked a quiet spot where I new he wouldn't see any thing in the open so no turning. Made a bit of noise to get any potential foxes out the way. Soon as I let him off he started walking down the hedge row then he heard some thing going down the hedge and set off. Found him circling a bush. The old tail was going and you could tell it was close. I got a couple of stop nets out and started setting them around the bottom. I would like to say he sat there waiting but I could hear him batting the bush at the top. I couldn't go sort him

Nice that is. I keep all my stuff in a heap in a basket could do with sorting out

Free Bullxgrey Dog Free To Good Home
terryd replied to fox buster's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
I am all ways puzzled when folks say make sure he gets the right home.Once he goes round the corner its out of your hands unless you know the person I guess. Would be a worry -
Not my idea of a well educated working dog. . . It would have to be the best dog I had ever owned and I would never breed from that sort of characteristic. . . Its shame when you have a world beater, but its still got traits you would not want in future breeding. your right there vin mine is the same. He has some superb assets hunting wise that would be good to carry on but he also has some that you wouldn't want too. They may well be down to my lack of training skills which I put me hand up to. But they may not be as well lol. Great shame because he a has nose, drive and brains in a

During the week one evening as it was getting dusky we were walking a hedge row that shouldn't hold any thing so I decide to let the dog off to see how his leg went. I took the lead off and said ok which means walk ahead but as it was getting dark he thought we were in lamping mode and went belting across the field looking for a squatter. Whistled him back and he flew back looking in good order so lead back on. So this morning thought we would ferret a hedge where he would be unlikely to get a run but hopefully we could get a rabbit. So decided to take my hob his about 5 and a pet really as h

Mine is a pain and quite a lot to do with when he was younger on a lead he had a westie coming fly out a gate and try latch on his arse. Same on a beach a collie ran up and bit him and ran off then down the woods once 3 husky types circling him. He was on a lead every time. My fault I should given them all the boot but its surprising how hard that is when your hands are full. Now on the lead his constantly on watch

I doubt any body who watches that over christmas is going to go flying out the door tramping around in the winter weather giving huntsmen grief. Once the advert stops running it will be forgotten. The people who do go running around giving the huntsmen grief all ready have there minds made up. I believe you have 3 lots pro hunt, anti hunt and the folks in the middle who really don't give a toss either way. The first two groups I imagine rarely change there views what ever. I am not about to spend my saturday running around with a bottle of citronella spray because i saw a fox on a trampoline
-
It does me make me chuckle and who cares what antis think of any thing any way. Peoples minds are made up any way which side of the fence they are and are hardly likely to change one way or the other over a fox on a trampoline
-
Have to say that's a real good advert. One thing most of us have in common we can appreciate wildlife Dusk last night saw a lovely fox watching us from the stubble on a brow of a hill. So gave him a wide berth. Just nice to see as dusk was drawing in. Though I do exclude rats from that outlook

Another sort of marking but basically the same thing. With these dogs leading the shooter in for some times ages. Working with a dog in such a way must be amazing
-
lol yea true that. Mine shot out the crate looking for a dropped pigeon then remembered how good my shooting is and sodded off to sleep lol
-
Fingers crossed it gets made safe
-
They are good boxes any excuse for a picture
-
Were they tender rabbits ? Just wondering how long you roast them before adding to the stew which looks great
-
Watching a dog mark is an absolute joy. That look they give you as if to say right over to you do your thing. A real team effort

Yes the back legs are heading for the slow cooker. Not sure about the frier John lol. I do jacket spuds and all sorts in the slower cooker. Ever attempted a mint aero sponge thing once that turned out well too after I saw it on the net.
-
Yes high prey drive I reckon and I think you got it right. Mine is the same once in striking distance he will go for it. On the other hand if a rabbit is down below running parallel on a track for example his not stupid enough to throw him self off the edge lol. But he has no problems going arse over tit if needs be to cop hold. Which is what make him successful. So once his leg has reattached we can crack on

Saw the Scott Rea pan frying hare fillets last night so thought I would give it a go. He gave his two minutes either side then rested. I tried that but when I took it out the foil it nearly jumped out the window. So I cooked it a bit more. It still stayed surprisingly tender and the wife is a big fan. All veg from the plot. Spuds, roast parsnip in honey, broadbeans and some dwarf beans. The parsnips were delicious
