Needed that little bit of reassurance thank you Casso. I trained a lurcher to a good standard years ago but feel as though i am treading on rice paper with a GSP, what age for the dog would be acceptable for him regards to shot bird retrieves guys in the field ? - I have allowed him to retrieve shot pigeons on a long line in my garden with lots of short lessons and short distances for a week now and he is taking well to it.If he`s a tad unwilling to return with the bird i encourage by gently pulling in the long line, voice and a liver treat,- the treat mak

Need some advice please, i have a male GSP of just 4 months and am letting him learn to find the odd game scent, teaching him obedience, etc etc.Just slowly bringing him into field walking. Anyway here is my mistake whilst walking him - a Magpie came well within range of me and not thinking i shot it. My dog is rock solid to gunfire because we are always near guns in training but he retrieved the magpie and halfway back decided to run off with it and stay at distance from me.He also chewed the dead bird badly. Beating myself up over this stupid mistake and will leave the

Smk Xs78 Or Qb78 And .22 Or .177
mark williams replied to ollieegg1's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Ollie, save some more mate, the lads have given you some sound advice,- another £100 and more would make a "massive" improvement of choice for you. If you are looking for a great springer then go HW. £250 + will get you a good second hand rifle. atb -
German Shorthaired Pointer Wanted
mark williams replied to cabbiejack's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers
I`m training my GSP - Kaiser, he is presently 14 weeks old,15.6 kilo weight, and KEEN as mustard. He is rock steady to the gun in training but retrieve has to be worked on in training. If i can give any advice it would be take a good handful of cooked liver chopped up with you and a clicker for dog training, my boy will do anything for a liver treat. He comes, stays, sits, holds, for nearly 4 months and his nose is outstanding. -

Hw100 Kt Effective Range ??
mark williams replied to dommorris92's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Hi dommorris92/ all, I use the HW 100 kt .177 cal for % of my air rifle shooting. At 25 yds on a still day i will hit pellet on pellet and try to stay within 30 yds range using all the little tricks in fieldcraft i have learned over the last 45 years or so. I will take long shots only if i have no other choice and draw the line at 50 yds Headshot Only. The greatest "kick" i get from airgunning is to use fieldcraft, study what your after and then the long awaited moment you catch them out at "short range" when you are completely camo`d up. As long -
Hi Dave, VM advice is spot on mate. atb

Hi mate, i use the HW100 and have it in both 177 and 22 - the 22 hardly ever gets out of the cabinet. I do a lot of hide shooting and find the flat trajectory lethal. My brand of pellet for both rifles is the AA fields diablo. atb.

HW was and is an outstanding springer.I spent many years shooting the famous Feinwerkbau 127 sport .22 cal beside my old shooting buddy Kev` C and his and himself were outstanding. Top, top springer the . atb

My HW 100 kt .177 is utterly lethal to rats and "all" other vermin as a matter of fact. I always shoot head shots whatever calibre i use and i find .177 the best calibre of all by a "country mile" atb

Good sound advice from TT and VM. A couple of lads i shoot with at my local range swear by the B.S.A Utra with the reg` in place and have many a shoot off for laughs with them. The reg`d Ultra is a very good rifle indeed. A pcp dry fired catches no harm as far as i`m aware mate. atb

Going to work one morning some 6 weeks back we had to stop to a red light, whilst waiting we,and all other waiting motorists witnessed a young squab pigeon being pecked to death by a single Magpie on the grass verge by the traffic lights. Two or three people jumped out of their cars to frighten the Magpie away. Approx` 20 min`s later we returned along this road to see the pigeon dead, no Magpie, and nothing eaten off the pigeon. We see Black Bird chicks taken quite often like this too. Strongly dislike Magpies.

Hi mate, I`ve been using AA fields diablo in both calibres and simply struck such high confidence with these pellets that i`m annoyed "with myself" if a miss occurs . I find both calibres hit extremely hard and true. RWS super fields ran an extremely close second at the range. atb

Which Pcp Multishot
mark williams replied to jonce's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Hi Dan. My pcp preference lies heart and soul with the HW 100`s by a country mile. If you are lamping at night go for .177 calibre as this calibre is much, much more forgiving with its trajectory when you are trying to judge distances at night. Just my humble opinion, atb. -
Nice collection of rifles there VM.Good to hear Hull Cartridge looked after you so well also. Out of interest mate which calibre HW 100 kt do you tend to reach for most often when going hunting ? I have the HW 100 kt (1.77) and the HW 100 ks (.22) - my favorite is easily the .177 version. atb.

I`m with Pianoman on this, i ambush with air rifle and hides "all the time". Try putting up a medium sized green fishing brolley (hot weather too) and arrange your camo accordingly draping it around as well as over the top of the medium sized brolley.Dont forget to use plenty of natural grass, twigs, leaves, branches etc, etc. in your camo` to really blend you into the hedgerows. I hate to walk around (mooch) in the rain as the water gets into your rifle too deeply for my liking. Stay dry, stay shaded and hidden mate for excellent air rifle bags.

Hi Buster, In my humble opinion i would go for a HW springer, and HW for pcp too. Air Arms pro, and the TX 200 are outstanding also.Try and save a little bit more money if you can mate, £300 will buy a lot more rifle than £200. atb.

Glad you kept the KT mate as that rifle takes an awful lot of beating. Hope the new gun is good for you. atb
