What's Better .177 Or .22
mark williams replied to pickles123's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Firstly welcome Pickles. My 45 yrs airgunning experience says .22 to 35 yds and .177 no further than 50 yds "period". "ALL" headshots unless you are a seasoned airgunner to include heart/lung shots out to 50 yds tops. Both calibres do the job easily but .177 is far more forgiving with accuracy and trajectory but not as hard hitting as .22 - .177 is all about accuracy. I use .177 and I am disappointed in myself if I miss .My bags have increased a lot since using a HW 100 kt .177. Just my humble opinion - atb. -
There are plenty of Daystates down at my club and plenty of moans and growns too from the owners. There is a lathe and workshop at the club and guess which guns are always being repaired ? The most praised rifles are the HW 100`s with Air Arms a 2nd best. On the range the HW 100 is favoured by all as best pcp by far. Just the lads from the club`s opinion atb

Flocked Or Un-Flocked Decoys?
mark williams replied to Windage!!'s topic in General Airgun Discussion
Best decoys for my shooting (sub 12 air, or shotgun ) is dead pigeons/ crows/ magpies mounted on decoy cages.I simply freeze some shot birds and use when needed. Very effective indeed but if I`m stuck for the real thing then "flocked" decoys are my 2nd best option. atb -
Yes mate - lie to `em and tell them you`ve "seen the light" and now shoot .177 you`ll find they will let you in then. atb

Quality shots mate. atb

Not sure Skot I`m a long way off being a gunsmith. I was told that the head was replaced and the old leather washer was replaced by using and sizing in the head of a bsa super sport, spring replaced, seals , breech seal washer, re blued etc, etc. The power varied by as much as 1 ft/lb from when it deiseled we think. atb

Hi Rake, The middle aged lads were drooling over her at the range, I`ve shot one all my shooting years, they are a beast of a springer. Just need x amount of pellets through her to wash the dieseling away and have her settle down. Then and only then I`ll do a final zero and let her loose back in the hunting world atb

Took the FWB sport to the range and zeroed the scope, she was actually giving the HW 100 kt a run for the money in between the dieseling she was doing with the new internals. At one stage at the end of the session she chronographed 11 ft/lbs , 11-79 ft/lbs, 12 ft/lbs with 16 grain air arms diablo. Once the dieseling stops she should settle in well. The HW 100 kt .177 was loving the new Mamba Lite 4 - 12 x 16 scope producing 5p groupings at 34 yds and 5p groupings with 1/2 milldot hold over at 44 yds (max`) atb

Hi Guys, Don't know why I stopped my van and looked in a small airgun shop but I did and saw a nice Feinwerkbau Sport 127 (.22 cal). for sale. I asked why it was in such good condition and the shop owner replied all the blueing was re-done by a professional, and the head and seals replaced by a local gunsmith He said the head was that of the BSA super sport ? Anyway I took the plunge and bought it £200, put some quality sports match mounts on and a Hawke 4-12 x 50 AO milldot scope on it from off my trusty HW 100 kt. Got it chronographed at 11.4 f

Karbine Or Rifle 1.77 Or 22
mark williams replied to Steven Proud's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Hi mate, the only difference in performances lies in the "which calibre question". I have not seen any difference between the full size HW 100 or HW 100 k t (carbine) in the same calibre accuracy and power wise, but as said by Skot there is a difference in shot count with the carbine (KT) being the lesser shot count in both calibres. I own the HW 100 kt 177 cal, with the shot count above three mags of 14 each mag`- I have never shot above 3 mags on any hunting trip ever. Now then myself and Villaman rib each other over the calibre to use but we both use the same -
HW 100 kt.177 is so hard to better - so it`s your call mate, if my 42 years of air rifle shooting experience might help well I`d lean towards HW . atb.

HW 100 kt .177 with a hide and shooting sticks is untouchable,- absolutely lethal bit of kit. atb

I once had a jack Russell/ whippet lurcher (Brett) and the traveller community wanted to buy him big time.He was the best rabbiting dog for miles, Hares - no bloody chance he had nowhere near enough gears for them but God how he tried. atb.

mark williams replied to welshhunterboy's topic in Airgun Hunting
Any HW 100 variant. I use the HW100 kt .177 - absolutely lethal to vermin . atb -
Shot them for nigh on 40 yrs Carp - why would you want this rifle compared to a modern gun mate ? Traded mine in for the HW 100 kt and never looked back. The HW 100 is absolutely lethal in .177 and .22. atb.
