Best Zero Range For Both .177 And .22
mark williams replied to mark williams's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I`ve downloaded chair gun tonight but will need to study it. Meantime I went to one of my permissions with both rifles, targets, range finder, note pad and pen. First off my HW 100 KT .177 using air arms fields zero 37 yards.(pellet on pellet)- scope Mamba Lite MTC-SCB 4-12x44 37 yd perfect, 30yd p, 40 yd p,45 yd 3/4 md hold over,50 yd 1 md h over,55 yd 1 1/2 md h over,60 yd 21/2 md h over. Second off my HW 100 ks .22 using air arms fields, zero 28 yards pellet on pellet.- scope Hawke Sport hd 4x 12x 50 28 yd p -
Found a very informative topic about the best zero ranges PBR of .177 = 8.8 to 35 meters (9.7 to 38.3 yards) - PBR = point blank range. .22 cal PBR = 6.3 to 28.5 meters (6.9 to 31.1 yards). Basics are that if you were to zero to say 30 meters in .22 with a sub 12 ft/lb "ish" rifle you would run the risk of being out of your kill zone from 11.5 meters to 25.5 meters due to the pellets parabolic trajectory leaving the 2.5 cm ( 1 inch) kill zone. So does this mean if you zero pellet on pellet to 31 yards in .22, your rifle will also

I now own the HW 100 kt .177 and the HW100 s kt .22 I took the new rifle the HW 100 s kt to the range tonight and was smashing everything. Unlike the .177 version the trajectory had to be mastered but was easy enough to learn. Both guns are superb. atb

Hi mate, Picked up a Brocock Concept Super 6 in .22 flavour - good accuracy and power on the sweet spot but after and before that = .On 180 bar 24 shots sweet, then curves off, not regulated. Anyway after all the great times with the HW 100 kt .177 there simply is no other pcp like the HW 100`s and all the times listening to "get the .22 version" from other lads as well as yourself - I`m going to - to compliment my .177 . Horses for courses I suppose, the HW 100 kt .177 is totally lethal for threading a pellet through spindley

I have the HW 100 kt in .177 cal and find it that good that I am strongly considering getting the HW 100 s in .22 flavour to compliment each other. atb

I should have mentioned that i was using Air Arms Fields Diablo 5.5mm 16 grain. If I remember correctly Si Pitterway did a review of the 177 contour and stated the Air Arms in 177 gave unbelievable accuracy, atb

Picked up a Brocock Concept Super 6 yesterday and zeroed it in this morning. She`s not regulated, but if filled to 180 bar spits out a good 20/24 shots pellet on pellet. I ranged a 5p sized target out to 35 yds and between the breezes shot 2p groups off shooting sticks all hovering around 11.4 ft/lbs.Once I reached 30 + shots the lack of being regulated started to show and the power started to curve off slowly. I noticed also that if I put 200 bar into her the power was as low as 10.2 ft/bs and rose with each shot until she was on a pressure of 180 bar

Excellent shooting Skot. Nice looking bit of kit. atb

When I am shooting from a hide into trees, especially spindley trees this time of year I always use .177. I find the much flatter trajectory allows me to thread a shot through the thin dense branches and take head shots. Whatever calibre - shot in the head means DEAD.Shot placement is everything. If I`m shooting in the open with no cover in front of the quarry out to 50 yds maximum (in daylight) either calibre, but at night .177, as this calibre is forgiving. Judging distance and trajectory in .22, at night ,is hard. Just my humble opinion mate.

Nice shooting Stuart, do you find you use the sticks a lot with a heavier rifle ? atb

Weihrauch Hw100T V Daystate Airwolf Mk3
mark williams replied to Warwick's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Hi Warwick, I go to my local range weekly and hear all the chit chat and banter from hundreds of fellow air gunners be it target, hunter field, or hunting lads etc and the rule of thumb seems to be that the HW 100`s are trumping guns twice/ three times their price. Also to note is that .177 cal is the most used cal ( at my club ) including most of the hunting lads, as head shots are the shots to take . Hope that helped a little. atb. -
Ha! ha ! ha !

Mmmm thanks mate, have you had any thoughts, or any of the lads, on the Theoben mfr please ? atb.
-
shooting mate, I`ve got my eye on the Rapid 7 in .22 , I take it you would recommend it ? atb
-
I agree with the .177 cal for hunting over 30 yds out to 50 yds because of the much flatter trajectory giving imo greater accuracy at longer ranges. I use at the moment a .22 springer out to 30 yds and a HW 100 kt .177 out to 50 yds max`. With air rifles we must remember the golden rule "shot placement" and headshots are totally lethal in all airgun calibres but in my humble opinion easier to attain with a top quality pcp in .177 cal. Regularly shoot 5p size targets a 35 yds as often as you possibly can.I have a large garden and am lucky in that it is 40

Hi Chef, At my local range the s410 and s510 are both very popular indeed. The lads at the club are into hunting every bit as much as they are target shooting, so yes your choice is a good one. The most "seen" pcps I have noticed are the HW 100, Daystate, Air Arms rifles. Some of the hunting lads are not bothered about a magazine at all as their attitude is "I don't need more than one shot"! On a personal note I shoot the HW 100 and find that with the magazine the rifle is lethal shooting rats, or corvids for example. atb

Great shooting Craig atb -
Just swapped over to the Mamba Lite on my HW 100 instead of the Hawke sport which is now on my Fienwerkbau Sport 127. The Mamba Lite is outstanding. atb

HW 100 accuracy has to be seen to be believed. All headshot on a still day at 35/45 yards from a hide and shooting sticks. The calibre is .177. atb
