Which Springer To Buy?
mark williams replied to AliLangford's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Hope you lads will allow an older airgunner`s experiences with calibres - 53 yrs old, 43 yrs airgunner with .22. I can promise you i will never hunt with .22 again. 177 absolutely clears the floor with accuracy/ trajectory and filling the game bag. atb ( forgive the humble opinion GO PCP HW 100 kt .177) cheers all -

Hi all, I have been walking one of my permissions with my German Short Haired pup of late and noticed that by 3pm / 3-15 pm a large oak tree to the corner of a small field is holding pigeon and carrion crows to decent numbers - say 6 of each and increasing daily . Approx` 25/30 yards away from this sitty tree is a long hedgerow and today i cut and built a natural hide in it.(ranged it at 31 yards with a rangefinder) In one weeks time i will set up and shoot at these times of day from here with my HW 100 kt .177 on shooting sticks and camo`d up. The wildl

Which Springer To Buy?
mark williams replied to AliLangford's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Best springer to buy ? There have been some excellent choices made already but as said mate you need to shoulder them all first in your local gunsmiths/ dealership. My humble 45 yrs as an airgunner says HW but i am a calibre convert too and i still edge HW, not in performance but personal preference on feel/hold. The TX200`s, aa pro sport are wonderful rifles with the TX feeling like it is already tuned. Of all the top brands it is down to personal choice because of all the top branded springers non are bad, all are excellent and all of them -
Springer With Ruptured Cruciate Ligament

good to hear that for you atb -
Hi guys, He`s on the check chord around the farms to stop him chasing after game. He will respond to a command/whistle when on a lead/check chord. He scents both the wind and ground when out on the check chord and whenever he picks up a scent he will mill around looking and his tail is like a miniature helicopter. I was told the garden is fine for basics like channeled retrieves, stop whistle, basic re calls as there are very little distractions. This morning he trained well (10 min`s tops) in the garden. Took him to one of my permissions and he just wan

Hi guys my 6 month pup is reacting well to the stop whistle, re call, dummy retrieves etc, etc but as soon as i try to give this training away from my large garden he wants to be off trying to hunt. Away from the garden and he wants to do his own thing - hunt. Out in the car he is at the window staring at any bird he might see, his prey drive is incredibly strong. When out for walks he is on the check chord or lead - and he still wants to hunt. Any advice please ? Mark.

Head shots are quite easy with a good pcp and an Ultra is certainly in that category. Shooting rabbits would require the .177 calibre at night as judging ranges is far easier with a flat trajectory. in my humble opinion Oakey

A shot to the head and it is dead regardless of calibre mate. Sit yourself down with "shooting sticks" or if available a good support and shoot "head only" shots - that`s the RULE atb

Years ago i went to an "open" shoot (shotgun, clay pigeon) and when my turn came i got out my old Zabali ( side by side) shotgun,- a non ejector box lock . Well all the tweed suits started laughing openly at me - lads i was skint, no work at the time 1984 miners strike was in full swing. I quietly shouted "pull" (several times) and got a full card of 30/30. You could have heard a pin drop, and the silence was so deafening i put the old box lock away and said nothing. I won that cup, it is on my window sill for all to see, i still use the g

Well i`ve sent off for Tom Brechney basic and advanced HPR training dvd`s as they are highly recommended - so hopefully i can build Rome slowly and correctly. Meantime "Thank You" to every one !

Hi mate - moles advice is "spot on" - if you want the bipod accuracy then - pcp. If you want the springer`s accuracy ie tx 200 - shooting sticks and your normal hold.. Of the two a hw 100 will totally ruin any other combination out of sight. best wishes.
-
I love to use the bipod with my HW 100 kt on grass land taking rabbit, corvids out easily to 50 yds from a prone position under camo`. I use the bipod or sticks as much as i can out hide shooting. atb
-
I shoot many a second and even a third shot at corvids getting angry over an owl decoy using my silenced 100`s. Another avenue of thought could be it does not matter how loud/ quiet the air rifle is( with in reason) but it matters greatly how accurate i am ? atb

Hw100Kt Help Please
mark williams replied to shreko's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Hi Shreko, Give trading standards a ring, (your local TS can be found easily on the internet). Briefly explain what has gone on and they will advise you accordingly; Take my word for it, the ball rolls a lot easier with TS involved and shops or large companies suddenly listen - once told TS has been informed and are advising you on the matter. atb -

I keep to 4 mags maximum when plinking (accuracy) and three when hunting but i have never used more than two when hunting. So 56 plinking, maximum of 42 hunting but never used more than 28 shots hunting Hope that made sense ? atb

Bsa Super Sport 177 Pellets
mark williams replied to blue whippit mw's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Hi mate, Try a cleaning of the barrel firstly and then try shooting indoors from a bench rest and see how that goes.for now. The pellets Barry mentions are a good choice, - a lot of shooters i know like the pellets suggested. My son had your gun in .22 and found Air Arms Field gave great groups. Does the gun diesel at all (produce smoke or smell) when fired. atb
