  1. Real handy hound ya got/had there Poach.. Tommys dogs done as much as anyones in the beam, he told me years back, he was just about sick with the game and his dogs must have been sicker too! Putting one of his to the Beast would have bred some formidable animals... Your pic says so too..!!
  2. Posted on this before.. For me, give me a hedge splitter anyday... If a dog won't go in, it ain't stayin here! Learning to do the job properly can be tough on young dogs but not all, some have a natural ability to survive... And those that do... Will catch you some ammount of critters...
  3. That black bitch strung up looks tidy Hacket.. Get a better pic of her up
  4. I heard you had knocked round for the dog Paddy... Shame I wasn't in... would have saved a whole lotta pain.
  5. Like Weasle, I'd also go with Wilf's advice as a first port of call and make sure the dog is 100%. After this, i'd also go with what a lot of others have said and put it down to that bad 'ol collie trait.. Now, before some jump on me for saying that, I gotta say not all collie crosses do this and I'd go further to say that i'd bet almost all 'well bred' collie crosses don't....! BUT if you have one that does, and out of the 5 collie crosses i've owned, one did, it's sommat I really don't think you can 'cure'...I certainly couldn't!! Funny ain't it but I've known, as someone already said, a f
  6. And thats the point Gem... No pressure! Your mindset will only transfer into the dog... Enjoy it, its the best way for you both to work together!!
  7. Gem, plenty of pups 'do the dance' when they start, its simply excitment. Your pup, i'm sure, will settle with time, as long as your recall is good and you put plenty of gear infront of him. I'd just add that though rewards do work, I've never used 'em in the field, the game itself is reward and I certainly wouldn't use rabbit heads Praise, once back to you with the prize is enough but keep it to minimal and move on to the next target. JMO but as a working lurcher, your dog is bred to do a job, that is to catch and carry to you. Treat it like a king back home once that job is done.
  8. Damn shame Socks, gutted for you. I was looking forward to your posts with your new bred charge. Onwards and upwards though fella, best of luck with the future.
  9. Great write up and great pics OD, please keep it up..
  10. Surprising what happens over time... WHSmiths, many years ago banned sporting dog periodicles from their shelves, you shooters buried your heads, the BASC buried its head, with an "I'm all right Jack" attitude... The fishermen will be next...
  11. Dan, over this side very few of us have expirience with American Stags, some lurcher bitches, of all types can be hard work when getting lined too. Same with most mutts. If I were you I'd rename your post with the edit button and add American Staghound to the title, then i'm sure the lads your side who run these dogs can give you sound, first hand, advice. Done...
  12. Nowt more important than gettin your chimney swept Lev but ya got out an done a bit anyway, great pics too.
  13. I usually find this programme a load of biased anti bullshine and hate it with a passion but that old footage on the oak (the major) was rather good, I might have to see if I can get hold of the whole film.
  14. Id have been nearly 10 when the dog died........and that was the end of the 70s Simmo, hard to believe I know with my youthful film star looks but true !!!! Lol Stabs, I wasn't that fashionable mate ! Lol lol.....I was more the tonic trousers, monkey boots, snorkel jacket kind of guy! Me too...!!!
  15. What offer? Have you removed the post Mister Moderator? Oop's cocked up..!!! Other way round....Bugger! :icon_redface: Thank the lord for a mate with a keen eye and an edit button on my Mod status...!!!
  16. If all's ok heath wise... Then wait until your youngster shows interest in something that could be of retrievable type, most pups are forever mouthing sommat and wind it up with it, in a play type way. When its keen and trying to get it, move to a area like a doorway, somewhere it has to go close to you to get past and throw it, only a few feet. It should go get it and at that point will either try to get past you or maybe move to another spot it likes. If its another place, move yourself to a position it will have to go close to you to get past. When it comes past, gently take it off it, with

  19. Nathan... Look how old the thred is....
  20. it started when a load of women broke away from the jrtcgb with the view to taking the jack russell into the kc -- saw a parson a few week ago shit jacket no undercoat snippy muzzle long tail dew claws on pink underbelly one cocked ear and long in the leg -- poor effort all round cost the proud new owner 550 notes .. i`d stay well clear or parsons and look at something else Cheers Stig... The last fecking thing i'd want would be a Parson, along with White Lakies an Plummers... All created with a different agenda than earth work IMO. I put the post up because in all honesty, though I sor
