  1. Chid, like i put in my last post you can put a thred to 'em to stop you loosing it, a few of my mates are the same, loose everything when out, forever turning up with no lead or slip lead an then bumming 'em off me!
  2. Thanks Midnight, just the answer I was looking for. I thought it may be expensive but then so many old school 'factory' knives were made with it but I suppose that was 'back in the day'. I'm like Cleanspade who also posted, in that all my favorites as a youngster carried this type of handle.
  3. If i've read that right Midnight, and i've read it a few times now, I think you have got the wrong end of the stick with my first post. So, lets make things clear, as far as your work is concerned... It's all custom and, just about THE best work i've seen, the paunches looked fantastic and so is the damascus stuff you do. I think the way I worded my first post was wrong, in that it came across like you simply make knives and then there are custom knives.. It was not intended to come out that way and I also fully understand the work that you put in to one of your blades. The type of handle I w
  4. Read anything about Johnny Richardson, huntsman with the Blencathra, though that was the last war. Norman Mursall's book 'come dawn come dusk' has some info in it from the great war if I remember rightly, as its a long time since I read it.
  5. UL, were you making these to sell once upon a time. I have one I bought from a bloke at Lowther about 15 years since exatley the same.
  6. I can't recall seeing any of the knives made and shown on here with antler or bone handles, nor a lot of custom work these days and was wondering as to why. Is it because of its expence, robustness, workability or has it simply gone out of fashion? By the way guys, keep posting your work, sommat I never get tired of seeing on here and one day, when the right one comes round....
  7. Weasle, it's held on with the fit over the rim of the lamp itself, no need for the lugs. In most its a good snug fit, though that plastic on plastic does still make that clatter noise when attaching, so add insulation tape either round the rim of the lamp or the filter, only one strip round though, or it'll be too tight and you'll find the noise will stop and the fit is snugger too. On the lug you heat and bend as a handle, you can always add a hole and string it to the lamp at the handle so as you dont loose it, though i don't bother. I'll put some pics up later. Asha, of that i've no idea,
  8. The Cluelight filters were very good, I liked the one that would spin rather than the hinged, ideal for good rabbity spots. As for the lightforce filters, cut two lugs off, heat one and bend it up and out, add some insulation tape (one layer) around the end of your lamp and you will get a snug fitting, silent filter with a easy off 'handle'.
  9. Good stuff Tomo an Co. Start as you mean to go on...
  10. Because GrCh, people in this game think the grass is always greener... Anyone who uses this dog would want their heads testing and would only be doing so because of what it 'supposedly' is and not what its done BUT hey ho, i'll bet he gets one or two takers off here...!!
  11. Very nice Breeder... Best of luck with 'em.....
  12. Pd3 thats about the best advice i've seen on kennel construction. I hope many will take note.
  13. Very sad news... Very best wishes Craigy, get well soon...
  14. Genuine Bedlington crosses are the only 'common' cross that i've never seen work. Seen plenty of dogs with Beddy in their make-up but never a 'genuine' cross out in the field. Dug to two Bedlington terriers too but a 'gen' cross out working, no. Back in the late 70's and early 's, right off the back of reading both Walshes & Plummers books, I thought these would be the dogs for me but I never knew or heard of anyone with one anywhere near this city with one, if people had 'em, either they wern't making much noise with 'em or they didn't last too long. Always thought Hoskers Spud looked a
  15. Took over from Johnny Morris, starting with guest slots on Animal Magic. Kept that nasty haircut all his later life. Shame though, 66 is no age.
  16. No idea UHD but plenty of folk love to 'claim' lines. Either within a generation or two to say its their own, or when they are so far removed from the stuff they are originally out of, you won't find a drop of the original stuff there! The last thing i'd want is to start calling what I breed a keep a line, especially a line with my name or one of my dogs names attached to it. Just be happy with the mutts you got, graft 'em hard and, if they are good enough, reproduce and carry on. No names usually means no bullshit...
  17. Gloat away...It's as it should be...
  18. Put a price up please, even if it is open to offers. Just a minimum will do or a 'offers over..'
  19. I'm with Gnash, in that some of the points made and theoretical actions taken are nuts, not only putting youselves at harm but causing further and far worse injuries to the animals too! His advice is spot on, Bird and others said it the same too. As far as I see it, this thred should offer the right advice to those who could have a problem between their own dogs or a friends dogs when in the field or motor. Not some daft senario where chavvey cnuts mutts are ruling the streets. Those situations are to be avioded at any cost, for us folk with working dogs! It's firstly all about control,
  20. The above advice is great, i'd also add that on those short, none working trips, take it to a place where it can stretch its legs and enjoy itself. Dogs twig on quick to what will be good at the end of a trip, making it worthwhile, if the jurneys end makes up for the ride....!
