  3. An interesting topic... Personaly,...I think that fragile,.is the wrong word to describe a well made Greyhound... I remember seeing my first Greyhounds at a hare coursing meeting in the Cotswolds... They were tremendous animals,...powerhouses,..and in my eyes,..(being used to curs and whippets, etc),..they seemed enormous! In subsequent years, I used pure Greyhounds for all sorts of tasks,...and as a pure breed,..I think they are marvelous, beautiful, exciting animals.. To compare an ex-track dog, to a purpose bred working/coursing type of lurcher,..is plainly ridiculous,... B
  4. Nowadays,...my lurchers are basically pet/companions,...they do get the occasional day/night out, but they are mostly fireside curs.. Back in the day,...I had a different attitude, as regards working dogs,... Facts were,. life was far harder,..sudden death or crippling injury was always patiently waiting to strike As pure workers, they were expected to do a job,.. they took their chance,..as did we all. So,..no,.....there would be no fecking point in lending out my canine pals. Plus,...I very much doubt if they would ever listen to anyone else
  5. All dogs are individuals,...same as their owners... However,...I have found that keeping the nails, as short as possible,..is always benificial and seems to prevent collateral ligament damage,....etc,etc....

  9. Trap thieves are vermin and always a problem,..I've lost hundreds of good tools over the years It was not so bad in the Imbra and Juby rabbit trapping years,...and one at least had the satisfaction that a thief might suffer from his actions,...Unfortunately, a Duffus cannot break bones,...so they are vulnerable... I am hoping that the Putanges will prove to be a safer option in certain, risky areas'....time will tell..

  13. How refreshing to hear lads still willing to try, a walk on the wild side..... I had a decade of great sport, good times and loyalty from my Cattle Dog lurchers. Wish that I could 'do it all' again...
  14. I have an ancient Nikon D300,....I believe it could be a good tool,....in the right hands.. To be honest, I have realy tried to understand the basic rules of photography.. The reason for F.Stops, ISO...etc,...but,.. I just cannot do it... Always been the same,....no mental stamina,...kinda mental block thing... Worst thing,... is when I travel to a distant area,. lads put the game in front of me, almost every time, I feck up... I know some canny lads rate using the Manual setting,..but,...in truth,... I've given up on that job.... In the future I'll be looking for an

  18. Once upon a time, long ago,...a well known trapper,.. was chatting to me on the phone,.... We were discussing the merits of a double spring ConyBear, over the single spring model.. Suddenly,..the phone went dead,...the conversation came to an abrupt halt ? All I could hear was an animal -like moaning,...the kind of sad mewing noise, that a lost whale might utter, in an effort to locate its family group... Then,. calmly and with an admirable piece of self control,..my pal whispered,.."Phil,..the fecker has gone off on my hand,.. I am going to have to call next door to help get th
  19. For the lurcherman who enjoys seeing his jukel run free and hunt his quarry,.as a true working dog should,....Hampshire is a difficult place.....
