  1. Snow, never dies,...unlike any poor luckless critter that gets to inbibe a wee sample Mind you,..that old Dethmor tin is worth keeping...
  2. No offence Smithie,..just my opinion, and I could well be wrong We are all learners,.. with these new tools,..but, having spent a lifetime using what are purported to be, Humane Killing Traps,..and being further encouraged, to Import traps from other countries,..and hopefully offer improvements on said items, I still prefer to catch the critter around his neck, as opposed to waiting for his head and shoulders,.(or God forbid , his belly),..to enter the striking area. Whatever,..we must all follow our own paths,..but always be prepared to change and adapt,..cos we are modern trappers
  3. There s a time and a place for taking pictures,..indeed,..as history relates, we sometimes need images to visually record the deeds of the past,...It is a truism that 'a picture is worth a thousand words',....and by the same token,.a picture borrower is a poor sort of critter
  4. I like the trigger to be 'right up front' ,.I want the mole to be, just in it,...and hopefully get a fatal earfull.. Checked some traps today,..had a good kill ratio with the Putanges,.but,..noticed one missing when I lifted the covering turf ? Felt along the tunnel,...nothing,..? Probed a few feet along the run and cut into the tunnel,..the trap had obviously been dragged/pulled along by a captured mole..I dug further into the run (what a fecking mess I was making )....but no sign of a dead'un... Sometimes with a Talpex,..the mole gets nipped and it invariably kills him,..I have fou
  5. Good to hear a hunting man talk about his old jukel,.. in such a passionate way...
  6. @ NEWKID,.... Wish I had a good pal like that..
  7. Back in the day,...when I was a boy,... No,..seriously,..back in the 1990s,.I used to travel up to the Midlands and visit Abotoirs, to purchase sheeps heads, by the hundreds.. I also bought vanloads of sheep's paunches..the price was ridiculous,..really low,.I just had to go. Lots of local lads fed their dogs very economicaly on the sheeps heads,..and back then,...we had some right good ole jukels Never, ever,..boiled up the heads,..always fed raw,...plenty of meat on them for a roustabout lurcher,...maybe a purpose bred racer or match dog might need a wee bit more 'powerhouse' grub,.bu
  8. A genuine Moucher is born,.not made,...
  9. @ Horsedrawn.. I used to pen a few words for the ED&RD magazine,..and enjoyed the experience.. Sadly, nowadays, .I can no longer put pen to paper,..and in truth,..I am ashamed.... Dave Harcombe was always a good friend to me,...(he got me out of a well set trap many years ago,..and facts are, I owe the man a debt of gratitude)..I would love to contribute to the magazine,..but, I like to think ,.he knows that I cannot..... Anyway,..I would 100% recommend this monthly treatise, to any genuine hunting man,..the mag is written by lurchermen and Terrier enthusiasts,... for their fellow
  10. Beautiful,...that is a good ole huntin boy...
  11. It is easy to say,.."back in my day",..etc, etc... BUT,...facts are,...things were different.....
  12. Halcyon Days, dear reader,..Halcyon Days...
  13. Personaly,..I don't care how a dog takes out his chosen quarry,...my main criteria is that he achieves his goal...
  14. Vin quote,..."Whilst we were gazing down on the moor yesterday I said to Tomo " look at that massive patch of sedge down there, lets save that for when Phil has a trip up". Wow, thinking of me and my cur dog,...generously leaving, catchable rabbits,..honestly, that was so good of you guys I feel humble,..and you know what,...just for a few seconds there..(only a few seconds mind),....I almost fecking believed you.
  15. I love this man dearly,...I realy do,...but, whenever I see one of his 'bolting rabbits for the dogs, with no nets' posts,..I am so envious, that invariably, I feel,... physically fecking sick
  16. One of the greats,...his music will live on,...as will his name and legacy... R.I.P David Bowie...
  17. Too right "Freedom is the word I always use "
  18. Nice pictures fellahs... Personaly,..because I only work hedgerows and bramble patches, spinneys, ditches, etc...I like to use smaller types with a preference towards Greyhound/Whippet and Sheepdog blood...I've had all sorts of ferreting dogs,.most have done the job,.no real problems with any of them. However, I find that some handle the difficulties far better than others. Some individuals cannot handle, mentally and physically,..the unavoidable frustration, connected with the fast and furious, 'in and out' close combat work, that thick blackthorn ditches so often bring. My game is not a
  19. That different behaviour twixt your various lurchers, could well be down to the individual animal I would not equate it exclusively with Deerhound traits. Some of these hybrids and crossbreeds, are more, up and at them,.than their more laid back cousins.. Like our canine hunting partners,..we are all a wee bit different..
  20. Always enjoyed being out with deerhound hybrids,... Personaly,..I like to add a fair old dollop of sheepdog blood into the mix...
  21. Like most lurcher questions,..there are no definitive answers,...far too many variables,..mostly of a geographical nature
  22. Well,.its fecking disturbing,.all these fakes, copies, clones and impersonators,..ya just don't know who to trust.
  23. Feck me Smithie,.if I am still here in 20 years time, I'll not be concerned about mole traps,.more in not shitting the fecking bed
  24. Caught moles with them,...the Putange, (from which they are derived) is far more robust,.and is,..in my opinion,...far more humane...
