Questions I Asked Countryside Alliance Today.
Phil Lloyd replied to dog man's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
We had our chance, on The March,.but we were too polite to press home our cause.... Facts are "Shy Bairns get no Sweets"..... We should have used that unique, coming together, of Field Sports enthusiasts to our advantage... Half a million bodies on the streets of London,.could have been a powerful force .... We had our chance... -
Sent To Me By Craggers Off Here Today By Pm
Phil Lloyd replied to Squirrel_Basher's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Hi,.I would be keen to learn a wee bit more regarding the penalties for using another man's photographs,..the legalities, etc.... Many thanks, Phil. -
I do not know the fellow you speak of,..I doubt we have much in common.... I don't read any magazines either.... However, I do have personal experience of this hybrid..... saw them working several decades ago,..I liked what I saw...
-
Half cross composites of any Running dog x whatever,..are easy to produce,...I bred quite a few... However,..it was always my intention to 'improve' upon that initial hybridization... For me,..although useful and always worthwhile,..the first cross was simply the start,....the real fun begins as the next few steps are taken..

I once fed my old Deerhound bitch a Pork Pie,..but she never chased a pig ..

Yeah,..seen quite a few,...I think George Newcombe's out cross experiments, where he deliberately put Border's and Lakeland's over his Bedlington Terriers, definitely improved the contemporary, Bedlington terrier coat.. Mind you, for a roustabout bush busting, terrier based rabbiter, I would prefer the harsh, crisp red pelt of the Irish Terrier/Running dog hybrids.

I use them on a daily basis,..possibly the easiest to set (and most basic) mole trap on the market....stick with them...

Trapping Rabbits And Squirrels
Phil Lloyd replied to Joe1888's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
If you are live trapping a critter,..your first priority is to kill the captive, as quick as.... With Grey squirrels,...perhaps employ the sack method.... Place the sack over the cage entrance,..tilt the trap slightly upwards and allow the animal to bolt into the sack. Then,.grip the sack and twist it shut. Gently,... feel for the squirrel and when you have located his neck,...just dislocate the vertebra,..same as you would a netted rabbit.. Quick, clean,..and above all,...humane... -
Some of my Beddy lurchers were bred from Rillington line Bedlington/Borders,.hence their much improved coat,...far crisper and harsher, with a good weatherproof jacket... Good old dogs, good old days...

Wouldn't be so sure TOMO,...(look how he dresses,..always in black,..kinda gives the game away)....Vin has been training to be a Ninja.
-
I'm sticking with it,...got to keep on,...keeping on...
-
Still got a few pictures of those original types,...I even bred a similar line for myself.... Unusual looking dogs,...I liked them....
-
Rabbiting is often different throughout the UK...some types are more suited to localised terrain than others,...it pays to consider this...
-
Locky Ransomeware Virus , Stiffmeister,...if you ever run into them Russian c**ts,...keep hold of them for me....
-
Goodonya Jigsaw.... I lost all my photos last year,...a lifetime's worth,...it was emotional... Been trying to gather up a fresh batch,..but time and ill-health are now against me, but I'm enjoying every wee victory... Nothing wrong with lads putting up their pictures,...nothing at all..
-
Well,..I like to see pictures and film clips of lurchers,... I rarely get out these days and its good to see images of younger, fitter (and frequently, keener ) men having a hunt and a mouch around Keep the photos coming bonny lads...

A buzzard is a scrounger more than owt else ..they will take a free meal if they can get it...but they are a poor excuse for a hunting bird..their weak feet are not best suited for even trying to kill a full grown bunny...maybe the odd daft young easy bunny. T its still only scrounged it though...it didn't kill it.. crows porbably started it off and buzzards, kites etc etc will always take a freebie. . . as for them having powerfull feet... Why do you think people use Harris hawks,Goshawks etc birds of similar size but with serious feet and power/speed for Hawking/falconry and

Most well bred Sheep Herders start to 'wear' their sheep at an early age,...its what,.. they do.... Seen dozens,...and same as young lurchers, there is nowt better than seeing early promise,...it gives a man confidence for the future. However,..(in much the same way)....you have to be careful not to overmatch a tyro pup ,..and feck him up....
-
Cannot speak for others,..only for myself,...but I would always support Dave Harcombe ... Nobody is perfect, least of all me.... But,..whatever the man's motives (financial or otherwise),for originally producing his EDRD project,..there is no denying the fact that he offered, an alternative to the mainstream Country Sport magazines.. At the time,..those of us not in favour, had no voice,...no chance of putting matters straight,.of keeping it real, etc...I no longer see the mag these days, so can only comment on those early years.. That being said, he will always have my respect,..and deep

Pre-baiting is a useful, tried and tested technique. This method is best utilised when setting live catch cages, to take Rats/Grey Squirrels in number...
-
It is physically easier for a large dog to carry his rabbits/hares/game birds, than a tiny wee jukel...but,..for the task to be a success,..a dog must want to do it.

Look What I Left On The Side Of The Road
Phil Lloyd replied to top dog 1's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I often find road casualty deer,...sometimes one or two at a time... They make good dog tucker, so if they are fresh hit, I always pick them up... I hate needless waste.... -
Too much dog for me as well,....but, I do like em...
-
And above and beyond it... Because they like the flat fields with easy runs that make their dogs look good when they post clips all over the internet. . . Wouldn't dare to post clips of my wee dogs trying, to catch bolters,...I know their limitations...
