  1. the guy who placed the add at the start of the thread got his bearded collies from norma plummer Ah, thanks for clearing that up that tinyT...I was thinking the auld mind was going on me....
  2. Well fellah,..you have fecking lost me,.. big time,..
  3. Not quite with ya tinytiger..? If you are talking about, 'who I think you are,'... then obviously I know where their stock originally came from... However, my own interest in herders (and herding based composites) goes back several decades,...way before those Halcyon Days..
  4. I would wager that a fair percentage of these Beardie type that folk talk about, come via a similar source..... Facts are,...the Border and Beardie Collie are VERY similar....they are both offshoots of the same type,.but in their pure form,..they are used for a different job...... As a Boy,..I saw plenty,.my Father and Grandfather kept dozens of sheep herders and Cattle dogs,...they varied immensely in looks,.some were hairy (like Smithfields) and some were Bare Skinned, like first cross lurchers...but,...they were all Collies,. I learned sixty years ago,...that it is best to keep the
  5. We crossbreed our pure dogs to Greyhounds, to produce a real top notch hunting tool,....and a sensible man will always think about each union,.. and plan accordingly... I've seen plenty of Bull blooded lurchers,...I like them,...and IF I was after foxes and Deer,....this would be my first choice.... But, I only hunt a handful of shushis,...so a wee Collie cur suits me just fine,. I don't differentiate twixt Border or Beardie,...they all fall in line for me. .
  6. Obviously,.as a responsible Pester , you need to be AuFait with rules and regulations, plus current legislation,...but, as a Pest Controller of some years, I would always advise a keen young man to work on the K.I.S.S. principle.....and not to complicate, what can be,.a complicated and often frustrating, career choice...
  7. She will be two in mid-November. One strand of barb on top Ray and the rest are plain wire on that fence She catches more than she misses now, such a clever little dog. Trouble with that fence is it was an uphill jump on the way back, and she stumbled and rolled shortly before her attempt, the video doesnt show the slope that well. As you know I try to encourage my dogs to go through or under but her keenness gets the better of her, NEVER seen her give up on a chase yet, getting better every month, love that little bitch. She ended up 21.5 tts Sometimes,..when faced with a piece
  8. I like Working Beardies,..(I like all Herding dogs)....but you have to use the right types,...or life becomes ,...difficult....
  9. Obviously,...my own PC disaster palls into insignificance, compared to the terrible hurt that the patients of the NHS will experience,...but,..this Ransomeware thing really is a total fecker..Apart from the awesome consequences of suffering such an attack,.there is always that sickening feeling of never, ever being able to get some pay-back.
  10. This can be a difficult time (mentally) for some bitches,....they really get confused.com.. The danger time would seem to be a few weeks on from the end of their season,..at a time when, if they were in pup,.they would be producing milk.. I've managed to get through this business with most of my bitches,...although one particular animal just couldn't let it go,..she just became worse and worse,.acting real strange and producing milk like a Friesian. Usually a course of Galastop will call a halt to this malady,..but in her case,.. we just could not win,..so I had her spayed.. I think i
  11. A brace of Kanias , set back to back,.are a beautiful way to exterminate the bushy tails,...mind you,..they ain't cheap,...so ya gotta be a serious player.... Failing that, get yourself a cage trap or a Fenn,...they will both feck the grey up,.and I do mean, proper fecked... However,...,.the Kania really is the favorite...it rarely misses its target,.....it kills quick and has ,...endless patience...
  12. That is a brand new Springer Mk 4,...they seem adaquate for rats,...they can also kill Grey Squirells,..but, I much prefer the power of the Mk 6 Fenn , Solway or Springer.. Mind you,..the cheap FEN copy from China will also catch plenty,...but... as a humane killing trap,..it likes to take its time.... I would never set such a shameful cruel thing for any critter.... The original FENN is a strong trap,...but it has never been a 100%... killer..
  13. Yes, I really like them.... Wish I had access to such a phenomenal tool,.. back in the late 1970s/80s....
  14. Over the last five decades,...I have owned most hybrids,...and walked out with many different types belonging to my fellow hunters,... Truth is, I have loved them all,...some better than others obviously, but,.. in the main,...I just enjoy seeing dogs doing,.. what they are meant to do... Personally,...I prefer, a Greyhound or Whippet based running dog type,..crossed with a Herding dog...(dare I say it),...The ubiquitous Greyhound x Collie.. I was introduced to such a beast as a child,...and inevitably, I always returned to the fold,....
  15. TOMO,...if you look very closely,...you will notice that they have slanty eyes...
  16. Mother Nature is one hell of a trainer....
  17. Choring a man's dogs is a terrible crime,....
  18. I have found the herding composites to be the most intelligent and primitive of canines,...they definitely know when it is on,..and when it isn't.... Lurcher enthusiasts who need a dog with a do or die attitude,...might do well to consider another type of hybrid running dog ... I made my choice, 50 years ago and although I have left the flock on numerous ocassions,...I always return....
  19. Many thanks for taking those images down,.....it is much appreciated....
  20. An unwise and foolish image,...take it down for feck's sake...
  21. Very rebellious comment,....not like you to fall off that safe and comfy old fence......
