  1. After a few years doing the business.....Yes it does.... You wake up one morning and like dear old Alfie,..you ask yourself, "What's it all about"... Know what I mean ?
  2. Yes, I remember that colour cover,...what a great image of two iconic lurcher types...
  3. I believe that some of the Drover's dogs might resemble the Beardie,.whilst others may have exhibited the look of a bare-skinned Huntaway,...a pretty varied bunch of herders I should think.
  4. Thanks for that amazing input Greenshank...real interesting...
  5. Bushing various quarry out of the rough, with a terrier /lurcher combo is my favourite style of hunting,...for me, its the Sport of Kings..I just love it... However, when out and about with my wee Cur,..I would expect her to hit a bush if she knows there is a rabbit ensconced within... No point in waiting outside,...coz posing ain't gonna get us that bolt.... Variables,...its all down to variables...
  6. Due to the UK's diverse terrain,.nothing,.will ever replace the Herding dog.
  7. Hard times, hard men and even harder dogs..
  8. It's a feckin quandary... Over the years I have charged strangers money for pups , most have then gone on to become good friends,... By the same token,.I've sometimes gifted pups, to guys that I thought were friends..but they weren't I suppose on balance,.all things considered,...I would always prefer to gift, good pups,..to good men.....
  9. Tomo,..you spoil the tiny wee fellah,....Vin should buy his own fecking scran...
  10. Proud Father,..happy chavie,...what more can ya ask for..
  11. Bushing,..when it is fast 'n furious,..is great exercise for hunting dogs... It satisfies them both physically,..and mentally....
  12. I learn't a long time ago,..."Don't fight the system,..use it".....
  13. Another one was, "Working Terrier and Running Dog." Produced on a monthly basis by a couple of guys in the Midlands.. They were not into Terriers or Lurchers,...it was simply a business venture for them. The magazine was a real good looking product, full color cover job...the full works. We only had Shooting News/Countryman' Weekly and its partner, Sporting Dog,... (The good old Earth Dog&Running Dog magazine was not yet devised.) When the new magazine was suggested, Dave Harcombe phoned me and said,." Phil, quick,...get your pen out,...these crazy guys are paying £50.00 an art
  14. Real nice, bold, healthy and happy pups,... C'mon now lads, lets get them into some good , permanent working homes...
  15. Thanks for the advice. He's my first pooch. Have you ever owned a saluki cross? Yes I have,....but I no longer need to take the Valium... Seriously,...with regards to lurchers,..I am keen on the Herding composites,...they suit me,...but many years ago I relied on a Saluki hybrid to keep me alive.... Great years, dangerous dark nights,... I genuinely owe the breed so much.....
  16. Well done fella,...good to see a young man working on his dog's education... Sometimes,...when you put the dog in the down/stay position,...instead of calling him to you, off the stay,....walk back towards him,.gently put him back down,.then walk away... Let him know that, stay sometimes means stay,....don't always call him to you.... Only a suggestion,...
  17. When the world was young,.the concept of a magazine that catered for the Lurcher, Terrier and Ferreting lads,... was a dream come true. Unfortunately,....life moves on,.times they are a'changing...
  18. Done 32 Hornet's nests this year,...I always regret killing these superb predatory insects,...but,..there ya go,.... As a rule,..Hornets are fairly docile,...but when they twig on and decide to attack,...it can get, emotional...
  19. Some of us, need all the help that we can muster...
  20. No ones White you say......you've clearly never met mushroom ,,,,,lol Some clever stuff on here regarding origin of our species and such but no one seems to have mentioned the possible existence of sub-species of humans still living today in remote areas. The Sasquatch ? The Yeti ? This photograph is proof in my opinion of the existence of Homo Sapien Moucher-Ferretii. The use of primitive hand tools, the evidence of an ability to hunt and gather game. Once common in the northern hemisphere yet always secretive so numbers and even there very existence has been doubted in recent years. Thi
