    A curious analogy.... By its very nature,..a Terrier has been selectively bred, to seek out and Kill its quarry,...whereas, a purpose bred Herding breed has been created, to move its quarry around,...and preferably,.not fecking kill it... I've kept, bred and worked, lurcher dogs with both influences,...had no real complaints or major problems with any of them,..however,..nowadays,..being an oldy and only wanting the quiet life,..I do prefer the herding dog composites.

    Seen plenty in The New Forest,..big old things.... My old dogs never made any impression on them ,..and in a way I was glad.... Also walked into large Reds on Scottish Isles,...plus had a few runs, down in the West Country,...ugly girt feckers....more akin to Donkeys than Deer... Can they be taken with lurchers that are committed to the task ?,...I believe they can.... However,... it would not be a pretty sight,...sure, a buzz and a definite turn on, for them as needs it no doubt,...but,..the job would hold no interest for me....

    In reality,..originally,..there was no such trap as a 116... My partner and I were forced to create this trap, in order to satisfy the Ministry The 116 is simply a 110 (same jaw spread),..fitted with a larger single spring... To say that the years proceeding the revised, Spring Trap Approval Order, were both frustrating and financially worrying,.would truly be an understatement.

    yes that can happen ,but I'd say a generation bred coursing dog with 30 years breeding will (all things being equal) be better at the job it was bred for than a dog bred from 2 unknown qualities ,on the balance of probability,dont you think?well the breeding in that dog my mate had was off real top stuff stuff this I wouldn't want to say incase it starts a silly argument but it just goes to show all the breeding and the money people pay don't mean squat if the dog hasn't got it up stairs Its always best to try and 'up the odds' with working dogs,..but there are no guarantees..     I would agree Allan,..but,.being an Agricultural pest species,... I doubt that the type of unfair legislation created to protect, other critters,..will ever be given to Rats or Rabbits.. Grossly hypocritical ,...totally illogical I know,...but I believe it to be, a realistic prospect .... As a veteran hunter, with scant influence on contemporary lurcher enthusiasts,...I can only applaud lads and lassies that still harbor that fire and passion for the chase... I genuinely wish you all well..

    Both the rat and the rabbit cause millions of pounds worth of damage to Agriculture, every year,....they,....will never put a stop to the control of these pest species...

    Don't know any of the characters involved,..but as an amatuer scribe myself,.albeit not very prolific,...I do know that if you enlist the help of a fellow hunting man,..whether it be for his story, his photos or indeed, his knowledge,.you are duty bound to abide by his rules... Regardless of such an action being, right and proper, if you feck someone about, you will not be able to ask for their help,.. ever again..

    Iv owned and seen plenty of shit dogs Yeah,..so have I,...most of us have,...but,..I would never call them Shit,.... They are just wee dogs that ain't going to make the cut,... Unfortunately,..when this becomes obvious,...you have to make a choice,.. and I must admit with me,..it was often,.. Adios Amigo,... Back in the day, I was far more demanding of a working lurcher,...now,.. I just keep them as pets.....

    Unless a dog bites chavies,..I would never call it shit,... Jukels are like people,.some more talented than others,...just trying to get through their lives, best as they can.. Some make the grade,..while others are not suitable as working dogs,...but,.in my opinion,..they are never shit....

    Pest Control rabbiting,..has feck all to do with Seasons,... It is just a job,..same as being a Bricky, Plumber, etc...you are working for wages.... Obviously during the Spring/Summer,..it ain't good,..nobody likes it,..but, if that is your game,.. you have to go where the money is...
