I don't earn enough to warrant owning such an impressive gadget,...it sounds great fun,...but in my opinion,..ya canna beat crisp, clean notes..

Many of the early 70s and 80s non-ped, purpose bred racing whippets exhibited an amazing muscular physique,.possibly influenced by the blood of the Staffie... These were great, solid wee bush busters and hedgerow workers,...and I've caught hares and roe deer on the stubble with some of 35lb and larger examples... However,..most of the whippet racing back then was conducted on a yds per pound basis, ..so the aim of many enthusiasts was to breed a wee'un, that could match a big yin for pace, whilst still being physically lightweight enough, to be awarded yardage. Unfortunately, this practice d

The bitch was mostly comprised of what I term,.."Hard Blood"....racing whippet stock,...but she also had a smidgen of herding dog in her ancestry... Yes, she was a nice sort of thing....No,..I have no need to kill anything that bites back,....and at the time I was being paid to only catch rabbits .... I fear that particular bitch, albeit quicksilver fast,..simply could not handle, the daily grind of Downland rabbit control.... I regretted saying goodbye,...

I've had several,...they really are one of the most beautiful and eye catching running dog composites... They are Masters of the Track,.....they are great at what they have been created to do... However,. those who seek to produce, a rough, tough, roustabout working style lurcher,.should always be mindful of that fact.

Good honest , genuine ferret kits, bred off working stock, are usually gifted, to similarly worthy genuine, honest, rabbiting men.... £40 for a baby ferret is a tad on the costly side....

Get your drift fellah,...and truth be told, I've been no Saint when it comes to the culling game,..but I've often thought,."should I have chosen more wisely,.thought more deeply,.made better plans" ? ............I think that on many occasions,...I might have acted,... a tad too hasty... So,..I can well understand those folk, who give their hearts to a dog to tear... I never used to,.. I didn't give a feck,..dogs were simply tools to be used,...and life was so much easier,..but as I get older,..I have become more mellow. Facts are,.nowadays, it just don't matter,... I have realised

ah the elusive wallaby yes, I can tell the difference between a cat and a fox mate on my cameras but out of hundreds of fox shots I get half may be good and usable were as if I had hundreds of pictures of cats I may be able to pic a few good ones out, I think the wallaby actually looked like a dog in a suit and how many people would want to be that close to a leopardr how many leopards would come that close to a human it's starting to go a bit silly again nowI never ridiculed you, never said I disbelieved what you think you saw,i just raised a few pertinent pointers, now your getting defensive s

3/4 Greyhound1/4 Deerhound
Phil Lloyd replied to scottish hare hunter's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Good old sort fellah... Darn Sarf, back in the 80s,..the 3/4 bred Greyhound/Deerhound mix and similar critters,.were the local heroes... We were in it, for the vonga, so never bothered rolling around with the Monarch of the Glen,.but the more catchable, Roe and Fallow, sure took a beating.... Loved the type for what they were...and for what they did for my family.... Mother and Son...- 42 replies

Fencing Training And Pointer Lurcher Update.
Phil Lloyd replied to Minkenry's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Steady now Minkenry,...some of us choose to keep,..purpose bred rabbit dogs,.just for rabbits,...they don't touch foxes,...there is no profit in it.... Facts are, none of this hunting game is Rocket Science,...we basically keep the style of dog, that is needed, at the time.... IF we want something stronger in our tea,..it sure ain't a problem to go fetch it. -
All's I knows is,...back in the day,...early 1980s,...if I had access to some of the incredibly physically gifted, purpose bred, deer catchers, that are available today,...no fecking way would I be wasting such valuable nightly earners,.. on silly scabby auld foxes and suchlike,... FFS

Love them Roe ,..my favourite type of deer,...lightweight carcase and easily bartered ,...

Fencing Training And Pointer Lurcher Update.
Phil Lloyd replied to Minkenry's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
How do these threads go Off the Beaten Track... The original poster was asking how to train his dog from hitting wire fences,....that conversation has turned to Bull crosses and how much punishment, pain, blood snot and tears they can endure Like dear Alfie, I gotta ask,.."What's it all about,...ya know what I mean".... -
Yes, I like the Coursing type x Bull blooded lurchers,...real impressive critters and the ones I've seen, had nice friendly temperaments,...good to work with.. Just been offered a pup from a potentially awesome, forthcoming litter,...its tempting,...but, for me,.. this much appreciated gift has come just a few years too late.
-
Fallow are plentiful in this locale,...in fact, they are a fecking nuicence....
-
The training and schooling of a working dog,...often depends on what your desired 'end product' is destined to be used for.... Sheepdogs, Cattle Dogs , Fetchers, Carriers,...Biters, Fighters and Grippers,...frequently require a different approach... I have always found that,..(all things being equal)..working with the right tool for the job, speeds up the learning process . Utilising an example that has been purpose bred for the intended task,..don't half make life easier

Thats lovely....

The moment a pottential customer, bulks at the price,...I walk away... I want clients that can afford me and who are happy to pay,...I've no need for whingers and whiners,...life is too short...
