  1. You are right TOMO... Big , massive, well populated warrens seem to, call a man in... They are like the lights of smugglers, hooked of a purpose onto dangerous rocks, luring an unwary ship onto them...
  2. I've met a few lads off the Net that are catching up the coneys,...they are all nice enough guys,..keen on their sport,. and in the modern vernacular, 'Mad for it'.. Like many other Veteran hunters,...I was just the same,....no different.. Truth is, in many of these out of the way areas,..where rabbits are in abundance,..the word is now out and like everything else in life,..it is frequently, a 'dog eat dog' world,..and if you don't take your share, some other fecker definitely will,...so,..lads often, go out of there way, to harvest the shushis and bag up at every opportunity...This i
  3. I believe that you can get, good and bad in most lurcher hybrids, also in the pure breeds,so often required, to help create the various types.. Locally,..(only being a casual rabbiting Moucher)...I prefer to use some whippet blood in my Hedgerow curs,...this inclusion,..however small,..will usually bring the size down a wee bit. I find it makes for a handy type...nice and nippy when chasing through brash and ducking the barbed wire.... These days, we only hunt a few rabbits amidst the woodland / forestry plantations and ferret the ditches and numerous field side warrens.. So,..
  4. Taken a whole lot of critters in Fenns,..Mk 4's and Mk 6's .... Real easy trap to site and to set,...great catchers...quick to use... However,...bearing in mind, the fact, that all traps are subject to human error,..(or sometimes, just plain, bad luck) and can produce foul catches, resulting in an inhumane, slow death,.the Fenn trap has other failings....When I was trapping full time,...every day,....I would make sure that I checked all the killing traps once a day,..and live cages, sited in areas where there were high populations of Grey Squirrel and Rabbits,...twice a day.... Gener
  5. Like the look of spring, she reminds me of the drovers dog of old racy under a decent jacket. Very nice looking bitch. Very similar to her ancestors.....
  6. Dogs barking, non-fecking stop,.for no apparent reason,...whilst their lazy arse owners simply sit back and allow it to go on,.and on,.ad-infinitum,...REALY does wind me up.... Facts are,..you do get nutty people, so it follows that you do get, nutty dogs.....poor sad critters that are not mentally stable and who find difficulty in handling the day to day stresses, of modern life... They are spooky,...and no amount of hollering or kicks up the arse will cure that malady.. Part of me feels sorry for folk who own such noisy feckers,...they are helpless to effect a cure,...but another bit
  7. Brinny was a nice old thing,...a Racing Champion.....kept primarily,... for the track....
  8. Perhaps Phil, I certainly like having a chat about nights out with like minded lads, in fact 2 very decent lads off here helped me out today at my house, the topic all day was dogs, hunting and tons of piss taking... I just think posting on lamping ain't easy as a full nights tale is easier talked about amongst mates Hi Newkid,..the point I was making,..is whilst I agree, that most posts about Lamping are, by the very nature of the activity,..a wee bit on the repetitive side,...I still believe that a skillful wordsmith could possibly describe the events of a night's spotlighting in su
  9. Its a piece of cake writing about a day or night out,..each trip out is a unique experience,...plenty of meat to chat about... BUT,..experience tells us,...there is no profit in it,...no point,...no sport,...just needless confrontation,.. and jealous, girlyfied bitch fests.... Personally,..I think the bubble has burst....and it would need, a real good tale to excite most hunting lads....
  10. Bear fecking Grylls,....Bear fecking Grylls,... TOMO would eat Bear Grylls... He has gutted a load more Shushis,...mind you,..buying blades, at eight for a pound,.well, that is just, plain mean
  11. It has always been the same,..., "Loose lips, Sink ships"...kinda thing......
  12. Maybe 'up your odds ' Micky... When block trapping with Imbras or Jubies,..I invariable fill in a few holes, and try to encourage the rabbits onto the treadle... You are right to use the older style traps,...there were good, humane killers,...and designed for the burrow job.. All the best,.and good trapping...
  13. Being a Moucher,...and only specializing in rabbits,...I've always favored the smaller,..quicksilver types... There is no point in keeping another type,...I would not do it justice.... Originally,..I pushed the Non-Peds,..they are fabulous, purpose bred,.specialist racing machines,...and on the track,.NOTHING can match their phenomenal early pace and determined sprint, to grip that rag or lure,..BUT,..in dense woodland,.brash and blackthorn ditch bottom,..they are simple a wasted superstar... For roustabout rabbiting, a task that befits a big chested powerhouse of a durable jukel,..I favor
  14. I wish ALL future Pesters,..good luck and good fortune,...but, please be aware,..there is far more to being a successful Pest Controller than attending courses and obtaining a few pieces of paper...I would urge ALL keen lads to try and secure the services of a successful and proven earner in the game, and to follow his lead.... Getting paid, is really what its all about...
  15. Just started on Apple Cider Vinegar...the taste makes me cringe,..but I'm gonna persevere...
  16. I judged the Lurchers at this most prestigious event.... What fabulous running dogs back then and the terriers, well,.mostly workers,.they looked it too Great craic,.genuine Boys,.. plenty of beer and a few battles,.....it always felt like home to me... The Show had been in sad decline for many years,...so,...its possibly for the best....
  17. Anything is worth a try fellah,... I am trapping full time,...and its getting harder to handle the debilitating pain... No real cure for it,...just got to go with the flow... Best of luck with the copper Bracelet...
  18. What an attractive young rabbiting Jukel.... He looks to have turned out,.... just right,..
  19. The concept is just the same....successful trapping is all about sensible positioning... Maybe ,..cut a slice into the floor, allowing the pan to be level with the ground,..a jump stick, placed just in front of the killing bars will generally get the target species, leaping onto the pan. .
  20. Yes,..used them in their dozens for the grey squirrels... Cheap and cheerful, same as the plastic ice cream containers, that the Master Trapper turned me onto,.they were deadly..
  21. I am not a terrierman,..but I've grown up around a fair few,.... Dave Harcombe ,..by dint of his writing,..plus by giving other enthusiasts, the opportunity to put their expertise, onto the printed word,...has certainly contributed to the history of terrierwork...and as a man,...he has been a good friend to me.... Can't really say more than that...
  22. Hmm,.. You charged me twice that,....mind you,...I suppose ya get what ya pay for
  23. Fishermen can go f**k themselves , it was a fisherman who started the ball rolling for the ban and I saw dozens of them standing b rivers on the way to protest marches didn't know that ,? but I do know that when I went on all marches in London , standing shoulder to shoulder with farmers + keepers, hunts mounted/ foot etc , I thought we all together ., with any form of hunting with dogs . well it aint your not wanted on any ground with a running type dog or terrier nothing changed before the Ban, and deff after the Ban, only the hunts seem to got round the Ban.
