I think for the foreseeable future REW,...chatting about the game is all I will be doing....

Good advice fellah,...it is pointless (and illogical) getting into battles with young pups... I demand a fair bit of obedience from my dogs and this is achieved by making them feel part of the team... Yes, I do spoil them,.I know that,.but kindness and consistency, invariably produces the best results.. At home and in the field,.we let them do what they like,.be pups,.be young,..be silly... THEN,..after a while,..the day finally dawns when Kindergarten is over,...big school has begun...

The lurcher man has always walked alone,...and will probably always have to...

Retrieving,... opens up a myriad of training possibilities for the hunting canine..

I think you have to be realistic, where whippets are concerned....

Many thanks to JohnnyBoy for my brace of rabbit carriers... As promised , I have extensively field tested them and can find no faults in their contruction.. I wish you well and have no doubts, that all your other customers will be as satisfied as myself

So pleased to see you two young guys showing such keenness... You are right to ask for some of Chuckles' kits,... I lost my old line of workers to ferret rustlers a few seasons back,..luckily, I had placed a bitch with a friend and we brought her up to be lined by Vin's top worker. The resulting progeny are really something special and have inherited their Sire's genes,..and even a few of his wee peculiarities. I have always felt that, if you are genuinely keen on the hunting game it pays to secure the best tools for the job in hand...Anyway, nice to have that 5 minute chat with yo

When I was a Commercial Pester,.treating Student dwellings,.Halls of Residence,...blocks of flats, etc,...I was frequently called in to treat Bed Bugs..(not to be confused with harmless Dust Mites) .. It was a difficult job....and often emotional. Back then, we did not have the modern insecticides,.growth inhibitors,..residual, styles of dusts and gels that are available today,..in short, our armoury was basic...We did what we could, but it was often a case of chucking the Velvet headboards, mattresses,...curtains,.even bed frames,..out of the window I've seen folk in tears as the

Some of the most efficient freezer fillers and catch dogs that I have owned,..have been virtual sight hounds... Personally, I prefer to work with herding dog composites,..( plenty of sheepdog savvy )....but, in reality,...a fast dog that can use its thinkers is often a far superior critter.....The three quarter bred is often the next step forward for men who are not satisfied with the original half cross, base product... When it works out , it is a good thing,..when it don't,...well, it's not so good.. Facts are, it's generally all down to what type of hunting dog that consistently,

For the rabbiting game,...I prefer a purpose bred type. My current choice being a mix of Whippet/Collie /Greyhound blood... However, the ACD / Greyhounds and their various composites, will take to the Mouching game real easily... Herding livestock, is simply a sublimated form of hunting,...the Collie/Kelpies and suchlike will transfer their prey drive to other quarry, no probs. Indeed, as a boy, I fecked up more than one of my Father's sheepdogs, netting the hares and pursuing rabbits... he became reet angry.. Nowadays,..if I was starting out again,.I would use genuine, 'steady Eddy' sty

As with humans,..some guys are harder than others..... I've found that individual animals, (whatever the hybrid) vary enormously, both in their temperament and physical toughness. However, the first cross twixt the Cattle Dog and the Greyhound certainly did produce superb feet,...and at the time, that suited me perfectly..

Hi,.yes,..we encountered the odd fox now and then whilst on the rabbiting jobs,...but there was no profit in killing them... But,.....shit happens, eh...
-
Well done for taking time out to do some research,...anyone contemplating taking on a Cattle Dog composite needs plenty of determination...It is frequently,.emotional... Facts are,..the first Cattle dog lurchers in the UK, were produced from genuine working strains... The pure form of these unique herders was created to undertake a particular task, in its country of origin.. We do not need such a hard biting worker of farm livestock, here in the UK,... My own interest in the breed goes back for several decades ,...I was well satisfied with the various hybridisations that I made

The subject has been well documented,...for me, it's done and dusted,..finito.... But there is plenty of data available,..if you are keen enough to do a search...

You lucky guys,...Sedge bashin,...that's my favourite style of rabbit hunting...
-
The original US traps were cheap and cheerful,...but (in my opinion) were not humane,..they required some modification....
-
These Tube Traps were originaly brought into the UK ( and 'improved ') ,.with the modern commercial Pester in mind... Obviously a Keeper, running a trapline of several hundred Fenns for ground vermin, would not go for this product.... Just another tool in the Pester's armoury....
