  1. On such a fabulous field run, I always try to set on the smallest beat ..indeed,..on such a well used travelway. I would usually lay more than one snare.... Been a long while since I caught a rabbit though,...so I might well be wrong...
  2. Vague is often good,..especially on t'internet,...amongst strangers.... Trapper's tools are a personal thing,...and as long as they suit your needs,..that is the main thing... Personally,..I prefer something a tad more comfortable and,..solid....
  3. Sensible, poignant and accurate reply there trappa... The financial remuneration for most forms of pest control, varies immensely, throughout the country
  4. Poor wee critter in that video,...feck all to do with hunting,..more akin to baiting..... If ya gonna kill something,..get it fecking done...
  5. Smashing wee clip there fellah,.many thanks for putting it up It really shows, the primitive hunting instinct that man has selectively bred into his herding dogs....same as the Greyhound and Bull Blood creators,..selectively bred their own required attributes into their choice of a working canine...All these amazing breeds and types have their place in the world..... Only a fool would ever compare one fabulous critter,.. against t'other....
  6. This is one superb truck,..real smart tool,...ideal country sportsman's vehicle,...gets you up in the clouds,..no problem...
  7. The facts are,...."there is far more to life than poxy dogs and ferrets"... unfortunately,... it has taken me half a fecking lifetime to realise it
  8. Nice type... Ya can't beat a well turned out Brindle for looks,.I've had some real good'un's...
  9. Whatever you need,...your true pals will help you out You are in a unique position,...so much free information to glean and benefit from,...the truth of the matter is,.you can earn and learn,..without making the same mistakes as the poor feckers who have gone before ....No excuse, to be a chump these days.....actually, the pest control job is easy...its dealing with customers that is the real art... Ya just gotta go with the flow,...and sort the wheat,.. from the chaff....
  10. I was intrigued by the original poster's question..... I fancy, in the future,...we just might see some positive evidence of the dastardly deed having been achieved... Possibly,..in the shape of crisp and clear images, of perhaps,..a strong Saluki type,...( the photos taken with, ridiculously expensive photographic equipment )..and the entire event described, in a clear and concise manner.... So,...do keep your eyes peeled.... Of course,..being an aged (and cerably challenged) veteran hunter,...I could well be mistaken ..
  11. I like to have pups out and about, at a few months of age.. More so,..roustabout curs, that are destined to be worked amongst woodland brash and factory units,..stoney waste ground, hedgerow and ditch bottom.. They need to learn a hell of a lot of things and develop certain essential skills,...or their lives will be full of disappointment and pain... Clearing obstacles is just part and parcel of getting around the UK countryside,...so,..its a case of practice, practice....and hopefully staying safe... The lurcher game,.(all things being equal),..can often be a dangerous old life...
  12. It certainly does,.. look like one....
  13. Bitsas fellah,...a bit of Sheepdog, bit of Whippet and a smidgen of good old Greyhound...'net guarders and ditch hunters',...a rabbiting terrier might have done the same job... I can't use a proper jukel,.so,...these wee mouching curs will have to see me out...
  14. The REASON,..I stopped using that particular type was because my original hybrids, bred off Imported working stock (from 1980s) were done and dusted,..Kaput Subsequent imports, from Australia and other countries,...were not to my taste,...I did not see any that showed working/herding capabilities...(herding, as most folk know, is simply a sublimated form of hunting)...and at the time, I was full on at the rabbiting job,..so I needed good solid hunting dogs that could travel well and not get themselves needlessly knocked up...Obviously,...folk that came after ,...fancied giving the cross
  15. @ Fuji... I think we have all been guilty of staying up too late and getting ourselves embroiled in senseless argument,...it is part and parcel of being passionate about the dogs. It is always a shame when an interesting debate/discussion gets ruined, by bringing personalities into the conversation,..but, once again, that is the t'Internet.. The original poster was only asking about drive in a lurcher and whether or not other enthusiasts favored, a collie or a bedlington ? Hardly controversial, a simple harmless question,..with an easily provided answer,..and mostly down,.. to person
  16. Not against any breeding project fellah,..in fact, I applaud anyone who tries to improve their line of lurchers... I have always done so myself,...tried various hybridisations .. So, best of luck to anyone who wants to walk on the wild side.....
  17. There is a VAST difference to attacking a big dumb critter ,.to handling it efficiently... As for Malinois (and other, similar jukels) with a miniscule herding /droving/flock guarding ancestry in their linage will attest,..they cannot match a contemporary Cowdog or similar purpose bred worker at handling livestock...In truth,..a determined bullock would cripple any foolhardy cur that gripped ,.and kept hold.... The attack dogs have been guided down a different path,..and like German Shepherds,.it generally involves working a two legged prey, as opposed to a Bovine fecker..
  18. As stated,...that is a hell of a lot of trapped moles....poor Gloucester must be lifting with them,...or was...
  19. We had a Shelby Cobra Mach 1 .....and can relate to that program,..100 %... Wonder who it was based on....
  20. In the past, I've caught plenty of Fallow Does and Pricketts with my roustabout curs,..but only a couple of fairish Bucks,...a wire fence, (and a deep ditch) helped out Big floppy old things,....awkward to handle....
  21. Marrilion came out of Country Music 31/32lbs my mates dog from Tiverton Vern & Joyce Hutchins, he was like shit off a shovel, me & Phil Lloyd used him to our bitches in the 80s He sure was rapid
  22. Such is the Internet Forum,...and that is why,...ye cannot really,.'talk dawgs'.....
  23. Stunning,...if only you were nearer,...I would sit outside your window,.salivating like a rabid dog...
