  1. Heartwarming tale,...all the best for the future..
  2. Cracking sport,..mouching and bushing rabbits,.with the terriers and lurchers is my favourite pastime...
  3. I love to see a happy child and a happy jukel....it makes me happy...
  4. It would surely be,.........emotional....
  5. Personaly,..mostly working on Southern Downland,.with its geology comprising of dense chalk and flint,.I much prefer a thicker pole,.with a nice sharp point, and topped off with a comfortable end cap, to assist me in pushing the pole into the tightly compressed turf. I have used the thinner type poles with long nets,.and also hazel wands with my traditional webs,.. and obviously caught plenty of rabbits,..but there is no denying the fact, that locally,..it is far more comfortable day out, constantly pushing in,. dozens of thick 'uns,.......as opposed to the arrow -like,.. thin uns...
  6. You are right Boyo,...Swifty is a long'un..
  7. We were entered in a stake and had travelled to North Herts one cold morning...I'll never forget it.. We were late,.fecked by the notorious North Circular,. and the first brace of greyhounds were already in slips,.. as we rushed across the stubble to let the Field Steward know we were there,..two beautiful dogs came hurtling by us,.in strong pursuit of their hare..They vanished over a rise, and we both stood rock steady,.not moving at all... Then,..coming back towards us, carrying a large hare and leading two extremely well turned out hounds,...was a Sikh guy. He was a big old fellah,.
  8. Inshallah Jack.... I've chosen each home carefully,.and tried to place the right dog,.in the right hands.... This time next year,..we will see if my gut feeling has paid off....
  9. Been looking after young Swifty for a ferreting pal... I gifted him the bitch pup, bred out of my cur, prior to his holiday abroad,... now it is her turn to leave home.. This has been a quiet litter,..no problems or dramas,..just great fun, watching each whelp develop its own unique character. Obviously you get a bit attached to the youngsters,...it would be strange not to,.but, it is a big old world out there. The sooner they get socialised and become familiar, with all the trials and tribulations that face a modern lurcher,.the better... So,.nearly all gone,.done and dusted,....
  10. Good question Boyo.. We are all different,.we are all individuals,.. and same as the Lurcher, we must never be standardised, catigorised,... or encouraged to all think the same.. This is what makes us lurchermen... I used to kill a lot of game,...I was mad for it,...so much so,.that lurchers really were my life,...and in truth, I've fecked up a large part of it,.due to my fanatical pursuit of game,...and some might say,.in search of some kind of idiotic, pseudo fame or notoriety... . But,.not any more,....nowadays it is,..onlytheconey,... My demands are small, and so are

  12. Trammels can be a right pain,..especially in woodland,..but,..there is definitely,.. a time and a place for one....
  13. Run various lurcher crosses,.from Lands End to John o'Groats,...and I have found danger in most counties... However,..in my opinion,...the most awkward terrain, is amidst old woodland debris and felled brash.. When hunting rabbits, (or whatever), in such places, the dogs need to use just enough speed to come to terms with their quarry,.but must also learn to lay back, and time their strike, to avoid collisions. I've seen several dogs that cannot seem to grasp the potential dangers and who sadly end up getting impaled, on branches....Working in dark woodland or Pine forest is always be
  14. Best of luck fellah,.its a great feeling to get some hope, from a Vet that inspires you with confidence... My own rabbiting bitch has just broke a toe,..it looks to be painful,..so thats us out of the frame for a few weeks... Fecking lurchers,...bane of my life....
  15. That is what a genuine Hunting Forum should all be about.....
  16. These types of jobs are the bread and butter of a paid ferreter....we encounter such god-awful places on a regular basis...There is nothing to be done,.other than to buckle down,.get enough ferrets on the go, and run out plenty of long nets/stop nets, etc,..and get the task,.done and dusted...Obviously we would all love to steer clear of such areas,..but as we all know,..where there is 'bramble',.there is money... Don't fear that old hedge Polkey,...just give it hell..
  17. They are expensive,.but,.there is no way round it....
  18. Living out of the back of a truck,...dossing down in an auld shed,... I feel sorry for a man that is down on his luck,..but when you know him personally,..it breaks my heart to see how low he has sunk...Phone home mate,...I'll send you some clean clothes and a bit of scran,..but,.. I'll not give you any more grog...
  19. So nice to see David in such good health.... All the best with the new pups... Kind regards, Phil.
