  1. In my opinion,...young pups need a lot of mental stimulation to open up their minds... They need to be out and about at every opportunity,..or like some poor folk who are kept in solitary,...they slowly, but surely,..go mad...
  2. Flint can be a b*****d,..no doubts about that...
  3. Personaly,...I only run rabbits,..however,..if I saw ANY wounded/shot animal,.. looking as though it might be lost, unretrievable or crawling away into the blackthorn or brash,.. to die a slow lingering death,...I would ask my dog to secure the poor critter.... Law or no fecking law,...I'll not leave any creature to suffer.... No true hunting man could...
  4. Cracking tale there Borderscot,...real nice twist at the end... As stated,...I do believe that there is a time and a place, for the Box Brownie,..and it is up to the individual's conscience, when and when not,.. to use it..
  5. Personaly,..same as many enthusiasts of rabbiting/ferreting/mouching,...I enjoy seeing images of our chosen pastime/sport/business,.whatever...and if we try to show the game in an honest and genuine way,..then I can see no harm in them..Those folk who dislike the hunting lifestyle,...will not be swayed one way or the other ,.they have already made their choice, as have we... Nowadays,..unless working for profit,..I like to take a back seat and simply watch and enjoy the day.. I find that most lads like to have a visual record of their exciting days and nights out,...and why not..?
  6. Good point there fellah.. Its a bit fecking much,. that hunting lads have to go to such desperate steps,. to protect their jukels.... Dogs and ferrets have always been chored,..but not like it is happening today....
  7. I don't use them a lot, these days,.(don't need to,..mine don't run much )....but,..when I was 'walking by night' on a regular basis,.it made sense to look after the dogs.. They definitely kept the wolf from ,.(several doors),..and after a long night on the rabbits or deer,.they needed to be well grubbed up and bedded down,.. nice and warm.. Guys who cannot be arsed to cosette their valuable workers,.are fools to themselves....
  8. Bolt Traps are often real useful,.. tools of the trade...
  9. We were the same,...never worried about the exact breeding,...it just didn't enter our heads...
  10. Back then,.the Deerhound lurchers and cur dog mixes,.. ruled the roost,....we did the best we could,........with what was available.....
  11. IF I can find him,..I'll get the guy to contact you direct,...
  12. I'll try and find him for you,...be good to speak once more
  13. Looks to be a real old style mouchers dog....
  14. Good to see such an interest being shown in the Collie lurchers,.coz,.for all the fine words that have been penned about them over the last decade,..the facts are,.these lurcher types are not quite as common,. as one might suppose... Keep the images coming...
  15. The famous race dog certainly put a lot of early pace, into my pastoral based line of curs.. .
  16. Obviously,.now the deed has been done,..I am sure that all genuine Hunting Life members wish the pups good luck on their journey through life....however,.for lads that are perhaps considering breeding from their lurchers,.please be aware,.that today,..it is a buyers market and unless you have something a bit special,.or are well known,.(or in my case,.a few pals willing to take a chance on a litter of curs),.then,.in many cases,..you are going to have real problems in securing good permanent homes for your whelps.... Do think on.....
  17. Best to,.."Let sleeping dogs lie"....
  18. This is always an interesting topic and generally makes for an exciting and informative debate..
  19. Interesting,.(if slightly curious) comments,. on a much favoured lurcher hybrid...
  20. Personaly,...I think it takes a while, to get really slick, proficient and become natural,.. at the ferreting/netting game. Hunting rabbits throughout the UK,..working over different geographical terrains/areas,.seems to hone your skills...and sharpen you up. I've been out with scores of lads, and I generally know, within minutes, if we are going to be able to work efficiently together. Some folk just don't take to the prickly old game,.and same as with impatient, skittish,.excitable jukels,....it will never be for them... Ferreting ain't rocket science,..but, as a minor field sport, you
  21. Good advice there lads... Cattle can be deadly,...more so,. if they have not been worked by,.. (and broken) to dogs..
  22. Hi,...well they are all gone,.done and dusted,... It is always a gamble,.trying to produce pups that are a bit superior to their parents,.but, in my opinion,..there is no other honest way or sensible path to take.
