This Internet malarky,.is a funny old thing... Ya never realy know who you are speaking to,.or if he/she, is a genuine Goodfellah.... Personaly,..I hate the entire concept of this ridiculous annonimoty,..but,.I must admit,..a part of it,.. is certainly addictive.... So,.I would have to say that ,."a trained dog, is a happy dog ",...and whether you are walking on permission or freelancing,...a critter that knows the score, is a far better workmate,...and,.'back in the day',..invariably lived a whole lot longer... My appologies for such a weak post, but I was up, until four in the

Celt..6 Months Old.. 5 Minute Course.????????????/
Phil Lloyd replied to dai dogs's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I hunted with Eddie Jones' dog Celt,...several times,...he was a typical, Three Quarter bred Greyhound/collie.... A good strong example of the type,...fast, powerful and ultra keen,.as are most dogs that have that amount of running dog, flowing through their veins,... Ran him on a few hares,..never saw him catch one,.but he definitely tried his hardest... All the best, Phil. -
Got A Squirrel Culling Job Coming Up
Phil Lloyd replied to Stuart Durrant's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I am a fan of the Kania.... As to whether the statute says, you must use a tunnel,.as a legal requirement, or not...personally,..I would always try to provide some kind of extra 'walk in' as an added protection,.. against non target species... You can purchase a purpose made, cage frontage or utilise a homemade, wire mesh tunnel ... In todays climate of litigation, it pays you watch your back....if ya get my drift.. All the best, and good trapping,..regards, Phil. -

Poor wee Dusty.... A couple of days to go,..and darn sarf,...its getting hotter and hotter... We are walking to the sea most evenings, and this provides some relief,... Inshallah,...soon be over for her... All the best, Phil.

Been in trucks, when driving the fields,..and I've been pursued by trucks,.when walking the fields,..one experience I found amazingly exciting, the other was always, emotional.. As for catch quantities,..well, when we had the rabbits in this area, I regularly lamped 30s and 40s of a night.. Always on foot,...Sometimes, we took in excess of that amount,.but as we were freelancing amidst prime game country,.it was prudent to work the various areas and estates on a rota basis,.and stay safe... Driving the fields back then,..was not an option. Nowadays,.I go out in the trucks with f

The 'trained retrieve',..for a running dog composite,.requires a different approach, with regards to achieving success, than when schooling a bird dog... All the best, Phil.

Goodonya fellah,...I'm so pleased that everything went to plan,...now you just enjoy them pups... You will find that they are right time wasters and you will spend hours,.. just watching their antics... Pleased that your bitch is ok,.. and everything went smoothly... My Merle fecker is fat as a porker,...still a couple more days to go...

Hi,..yeah its a long old wait fellah,..and I've been here before, many times... Just keep everything nice and calm,...just be there,.. to reassure your bitch... Most whelpings go smoothly,.but it pays to contact a Vets, and ask if they do operate an emergency service, 'out of hours' kinda thing,.just in case.... Inshallah,.we never have need of them,..but it costs nothing,.. to make contingency plans... As for Dusty,...well,.both her and the Sire,.. are used for ferreting/marking up/mouching, etc....no big deal, just a few rabbits.... Big day Tuesday ,.keep us informed... All

"Never count chickens,..before they are hatched"......

I think we will just have to play it by ear mate,.. Not quite sure where my bitch will couch down yet,...it would suit me if she took to the old shed,..plenty of room up there,.but as you say, it is fecking god awful hot, no matter where ya go... Yes, a nice quiet electric fan wouldn't hurt... I'm taking mine for a walk out, in the cool of the evening,...and if the tide is right, she gets into the sea,..this seems to be relaxing.. Right,..fingers crossed eh..
-
We are in the same position darn sarf,...only a week or so to go,.and by feck,.. is it hot... Poor Dusty,.she is now the shape of a Pot bellied Pig,.. and realy feeling the heat.... Anyway, all the best with your own wee bitch fellah,...kind regards, Phil.

Raw green tripe is a fabulous, easily digested mixer,. for rearing tiny pups... Obviously,...with any future canine athlete,...you must get the best into the tyke from an early age, because there is no going back on a poorly reared litter....Personaly, I like to feed raw beef trim,.chicken carcase, green tripe, and everything else that can keep em, plump and juicy...I like pups to be well covered,.they soon lose their roly poly look,. when they become more active... Skinny pups scare me.....

I have seen some realy nice bull blooded lurchers, and the best of these also had Saluki blood in them.. They looked to be trainable enough to me...

That old Winchester is a useful wee gun.... -
Well,..I can only hope that Sock's has earned enough vonga,.. to have his fecking hair cut...

Nice image there.. Watched plenty of ped whippets,.coursing the hares,...super days out, and generally held on fabulous ground,..often far better stocked with hares, than the land that the Greyhound coursing clubs used to run over...The Whippet clubs were always fairly well contained,. and it was always an enjoyable fun day...The best of the whippets ( and as a type,.they varied)...could stick to the tail of a hare, in the manner of a heat seeking missile,.real tight turns,.. and definitely exciting.... Never actually pulled many ..but, good craic all the same. My good old pal, t

Obviously,.."colour in a working dog means nowt".....but,..all things being equal,...we all have our preferances. I have always been attracted to the herding dog composites,..they are rarely show stoppers,..but I just like them.. My family bred several sheepdogs and Cattle Dogs,...we schooled them and worked them,.. and sold off the surplus... Nowadays, I prefer to keep Merle coloured animals,..we had some nice quiet Merle collies on our place when I was a kid,..and I have always found the variety of colours exhibited by these strange looking critters,.... totaly absorbing...
