  1. I always break the dogs to badgers... Badgers are in abundance,...you will continually bump into them,..they are just part and parcel,.. of the nighttime game.....
  2. Looks a powerful cur.. . I like them types for the Chalk Downlands,.( they bounce better ) and the whippety ones for the hedgerows.
  3. Patience Grasshopper....early days yet,.early days......
  4. Not that I saw. Greyhoundy..... Lovin that..... Thankfully my pup looks feck all like a greyhound.....had I wanted a 'greyhoundy' thing I'da got a greyhound..... A greyhoundy jukel is no good for the woods,..I needs me auld cur dogs...
  5. Fabulous pups, plump and juicy... Good to see that everything worked out for ya fellah... Had my own litter of collie curs out of their pen today,... for the first time,...it was emotional..
  6. That happened to me when out ferreting once..... Pure accident.... I was fecking devastated...
  7. I don't remember him feeding bad food....
  8. Raw, green tripe ,.mixed with a good quality complete,.OR,..combined with copious amounts of lamb, chicken, rabbits, hares and venison meat,.is a fabulous feed.... Lurcher dogs love to get their jaws around a big fat stinky chunk of tripe,..loverly, jubbly.. "Work them hard,.and treat them like heroes.... All the best, Phil..
  9. Can't seem to stay focused, on anything, much other than hunting/mouching these days... However,.the X Factor thing is a bit of fun...it is harmless and often gives a marvelous insight into various facets of the human psyche,...and,.. that does interest me... It is good to see a brace of singers,..previously arm in arm,..fighting together to make it to the top,..when suddenly,.it is suggested that they split up,.go their seperate ways and become rivals in the arena of fame.... Their friendship and loyalty towards each other,.. vanishes almost immediately,...and their eyes take
  10. Seen a few,..some better than others,....but all,...real useful,.. mouchers dogs,...
  11. I've sold thousands and thousands of rabbits Neil,..and if you are necking a rabbit ,..via the chinning or stretching method,..and dislocating it correctly,...there will be minimal bruising.. The quick and humane dispatch ,..(of any quarry ) ,...is an important part of being a genuine hunter...You owe it to your chosen target species to become expert,.. in your execution... Practice, practice, practice,...that is the only way... Regards, Phil.
  12. Too right,.. I saw his Salukis doing some incredable feats of agility ,...it was amazing.... Still got a bunch of photos showing them in action,...fecking awsome....
  13. John was my good friend,...he taught me a lot... He was also one of this country's, most forward thinking animal trainers, and had an amazing insight, into the canine psyche... Many of todays 'sit and stayers' have grown up, following his groundbreaking treatise, The Farmer's Dog and The Obedient Dog. A quietly spoken , ex- shepherd,...totally realistic, when it came to hunters and herders,..and a realy nice fellah... All the best, Phil.
  14. That is an honest admission...and a sensible and realistic reply Facts are,..the sheepdog hybrids ,.the ones that realy favour the sheepdog,...not simply physically or vague composites that 'have some collie in em'...but the types who exhibit real herding dog attributes,...can sometimes be awkward for lads to figure out...and,..for many hunting men,..the purchase of a ticket, into their world,.simply isn't worth the fecking price.. I've worked a lot of herding dogs,..and it is only in my latter years that I have twigged onto their primitive behaviour and to what actually makes them d
  15. This is a good question,.and one that lads with a penchant towards the subject should consider. Very few pesters specialise in the control of rabbits.... For most modern pest controllers, the rabbiting side of things is a small part of the industry. To be able to earn your corn via ferreting, netting, trapping etc,..you need to work in an area where the clients will pay.. A lot of rabbit infested localities lend themselves towards large catches and super fun days out, but there's no money involved. I started off catching rabbits and it looks as though I will end my working
  16. Had a bite from a rabbit and it doesn't equal a ferret bite in pain and amount of blood Fecking amazing,...
  17. I know all about such things... However,..a few ferrets have damaged teeth from a variety of accidents,..they are not all the victims of crass stupidity, ...via village idiots and sundry dinilos,.. that have no experience of good quality,..working animals.... Clipping a ferret's teeth or using a muzzle ,..will NOT stop it killing a bottled up rabbit,...they just take longer about it
  18. Pups doing well,..all plump and juicy,...and with nice quiet temperaments...
  19. Paul set it.... But,.its no matter, cos Honey don't miss many...
  20. Nice wee red merle,...ideal for some fast and furious rabbiting
