  1. I would say personally I have seen mixi strike at anytime but is definitely worst and most common September/October time. Fingers crossed for you it’s just a one off.
  2. Mines ferreted in bitter winds and snow and doesn’t seem to bother him as long as something is happening gets a touch cold if it’s very slow but basically not bothered by bad weather.
  3. I personally hate bloody deer, more around me than rabbits but I have no interest in them and no way of taking one so they are just a bloody pain in the arse! Dogs sound with sheep but can’t break him to deer, the harder they kick the keener he seems. Thought a sound kicking might put him off but just makes him more determined ?
  4. Lovely pups lads. I have a non ped whippet and can be a bit head strong at times but a cracking rabbit dog and bloody keen on deer mainly fallow round me but reckon he would take a roe given the chance, fallow are to much though poor f****r gets dragged round the field. Doesn’t stop him trying though ??
  5. Amazing if you have the money you can get good value, saw a 166 acre parcel of some lovely farm land but no buildings or planning for 1.2m but then a couple of acres with planning 500k all within 5 miles of each other, Madness. I would love to buy 10acres of pure farm land at 100k but they don’t sell farm land in 10 acre parcels. Best start playing the lottery I guess….
  6. Doubt to many of those dogs make old bones, some challenging terrain there for sure. Although the risk is mitigated by the volume of dogs meaning most of the rabbits make it about 2 foot! Wouldn’t want to be digging the ferret out on that though!
  7. Would agree with that. Adult rabbit to much for a buzzard but young uns definitely and seen plenty of poults taken
  8. If they survived mixi and came back they will come back from this, thing is RVHD2 has only been widespread for around 5 years so got to give it time and they will recover.
  9. That shows rather starkly the impact of RVHD2 on the rabbit population. The thing I find strange is how certain areas seem unaffected. You see the numbers some lads still catch is insane when other areas that used to be plentiful are very low indeed. As said many times before in other threads if left alone I still feel they can and indeed will recover but only if the survivors aren’t hammered. I believe, again from previous threads, toolbox is ahead of our curve in nz and they did recover over there but if there is nothing left they have no chance!
  10. Agreed. Every bit of land I hunt that I am the only one hunting on I can just about manage it so there is some sport without wiping them out even if disease is present it’s the land that other people hunt on be it poaching or permission that the poor old rabbit can’t recover on. I’ve seen blokes on land with barely a rabbit left purse net every hole plus run a long net round and try and take every rabbit and then complain when next year it’s barren as an eighty year old nun! Hunting should be about conservation and sport not just wiping out every animal.
  11. Well done for making these, glad someone has! Will they work with a Mk3 magnetic collar? All the old mk1 boxes do just wondering if yours will?
  12. Did they have signs of mixi? Sounds like the speed of it probably was RVHD2 unfortunately, bloody diseases are a killer. Got some cracking spots, rather had, and disease has been through and spoiled them. I then feel like leaving the survivors to pass on their immunity and not wipe out the few that survived.
  13. One thing not in question about the humble rabbit is that they are born survivors and reproducers. They have an amazing ability probably only beaten by the rat to overcome any problem. Mixi killed 99% of rabbits back in the 50’s but now many survivor to pass on their immunity. If I can catch a mixi survivor and it’s unharmed I let it go to hopefully pass it’s immunity on.
  14. This government seem to have found a whole bloody orchard of magic money trees…Corbyn would be proud
  15. If the ferret comes across a badger it would probably result in a very dead ferret so yes it’s dangerous. Holes could very easily connect to the badger holes, it’s a bit odd to me but not uncommon at all for rabbits and badgers to live in the same holes. Good effort on starting up with your ferrets but steer clear off badgers and fox earths nothing but trouble there for you.
  16. There was a very very small issue and then it got deliberately leaked to the press by a combination of a pro remain HGV union and BP both of whom had been lobbing without success to allow more foreign drivers into GB and needed to make the problem worse to force the governments hand rather than just pay drivers better and train more of them. This issue has been going on since the last lockdown ended and everyone got back in their cars but no one even noticed but good old MSM coupled with the complete lack of intelligence of many of the public cause a major headache on Thursday night. Bingo mor
  17. That was disturbingly and worryingly extremely accurate. Whilst it was said in a funny way everything he said was spot on. This winter could get messy……
  18. MSM big up what was a minor problem and then all the f***ing idiots panic which causes more idiots to panic and so it goes, toilet paper all over again. Got lads working for me tomorrow saying they have no fuel and struggling to get it so might not be able to work. Could be true could be don’t want to work Saturday. One of my lads that was on fumes filled up this morning and said in the time it took him to fill his tank 12 people came and went, all had loads of fuel but filling up a tenners worth cause they are morons ??
  19. Plenty round me, despite the keepers and rifle boys smashing them. They are amazing animals really just seem to thrive no matter what a bit like coyotes in the states. The harder you hit them the harder they seem to come back. The way they thrive in towns is a testament to their adaptability
  20. Same, I love the new collars no messing about with a screwcap and insulation tape etc just a nice waterproof collar with the magnet to turn it on and off but just can’t get on with the disco box and not just because of the ridiculous noise!!! MK1 boxes are fair superior in my humble opinion.
  21. Tried that and I didn’t work…
