  1. Skin on is no problem at all. In thirty years I’ve always fed skin. I do skin the ones I freeze though purely as they take up less space in the freezer and in the summer the hobs are separated etc and being skinned makes it easier to cut the whole rabbit up and divide amongst the cages.
  2. Heard a lot of stories about dogs/ people not being able to live of rabbit because of lack of fat which I totally agree with and understand but ferrets seem to thrive on it? Mine get nothing else bar the odd pheasant or woody and are in superb nick pretty much all year round. Silver jill I have I don’t think has ever eaten anything else and she is got a beautiful coat and a nice bit of condition to her, her brother on the same diet is a massively fat f****r! Just a thought! The situation in New Zealand is amazing to see, if i am not mistaken RVHD2 did a fair number on them 20 years ago so go
  3. It seems that places with lots of rabbits rarely have lots of hares and vice versa, got a fairly decent number of rabbits round me currently but hares are very rare indeed. I use a thermal at night also so fairly confident I would see them if they were there.
  4. All wild animals really are incredible. Seen deer with 3 legs otherwise healthy caught a rabbit last year that had broken its back leg but had all healed up in an awful crooked way but the rabbit was fat and healthy...struggled to outrun the whippet though!
  5. That will be RVHD2 I have seen it before it causes them to have a sort of epileptic fit, not nice. Hopefully it doesn’t hit to hard.
  6. Not that lucky or you would have let him go! ?
  7. Ferrets are seriously tough sob’s, they’ll heal don’t fret. I’ve got a ferret that’s about 14, just refuses to die. Had various lumps and problems and just when I think I’ll have to knock her on the head and put her out her misery she heals up got another old one had a huge tumour in her gut but didn’t seem in any pain and seemed happy so left her and it just disappeared! Amazing, tough animals ferrets. Take more than a few scabs to bother a ferret.
  8. Need to separate the hobs they will do some serious damage if left together all summer. Is the jill properly in season, vagina will be very swollen and obvious. My guess is that she isn’t full “in” yet hence the reason the hobs aren’t that interested yet. My vas hob is in with 6 jills and he ignores the ones that aren’t quite ripe! They all get it in the end though ?
  9. I liked him. Give me the old duke over Harry and Meghan any day of the week. RIP Phil.
  10. Thats incredible. I caught a 3/4 grown rabbit last week. Every single doe pregnant, nests and young uns everywhere I go.
  11. Maybe but the prices the debens are fetching at the moment is crazy, so definitely some market. Few people I have spoken to seem to think the bunny is slowly picking up a touch also ??
  12. What are peoples views on vaccine passports for something a simple as going to the pub? My view, for what it’s worth, is this used to be a free country with free choice as to what we did and what we put into our own bodies and that the power and control the government has taken from us is entirely disproportionate to the threat we have faced. Vaccination should be a personal choice and if the population are being forced into it I fear vaccination uptake may actually go down not up. Where do you stop also, first it’s stadiums then pubs how long before we can’t even go to the supermarket if we h
  13. Socks would have been annoyed to have missed that.....
  14. Your missing out Katc a good hob is an absolute joy to work, from what I hear about the dales they are even more useful up there. Get one this summer and give him a go.
  15. I had a similar experience, was low on adult working jills and saw one advertised turns out it was a pet home lady kept it in the kitchen in a tiny cage and fed her cat food. Only wanted £10 and felt almost duty bound to take her as felt so sorry for her kept like that she turned out to be one of, if not the best, worker I have ever owned. Twenty odd years ago and her blood still flows through my current workers. Whilst worker to worker breeding is preferred, obviously, I still think ferrets are still not ruined enough that most ferrets will work given the chance. The pet homes haven’t managed
  16. I have recently bought a very decent night vison spotter than will pick up a rabbit at a really decent range and what’s amazed me is I will enter a field and in the distance at the edge of the spotters range you will see rabbits already high tailing for the hedge. That’s just me having a look, no lights or even a dog on a slip. Some rabbits are almost impossible to lamp there gone before you even get close enough to see them!
  17. I actually reckon I would feel safer around the wolves than the boar! Heard those fuckers are brutal
  18. I would love to be able to see a wild wolf in this country but it’s completely unworkable in this country. Yes we have the deer (boy do we!) but we don’t have even close to wilderness that a wolf population would need to survive and thrive. Even in America they are having increased issues with wolves coming into contact with people as they have successfully looked to expand their range. Possibly a few spots in Scotland and the north you could have a very very small population but what happens when they start eating Mrs Jones cockatoo? Or worse little Timmy gets bitten? We don’t have areas like
  19. Are the two older hobs in season? Balls still on show? Only time I have known hobs fight is when the testosterone is up. If not occasionally they just need to assert a pecking order but it sounds like hormones rather than dominance to me.
  20. I have one I am happy to gift you but down in sussex so may be a bit far to come.
  21. I have one I would happily gift you but I am down in sussex...might be a bit far for you.
  22. Surprisingly he hasn’t really come across one, I don’t do a huge amount of lamping and day time they have successfully kept to themselves! Had some unfortunate incidents with other dogs since he got attacked completely unprovoked and now have issues with other male dogs he doesn’t know. Sort of issues where he piles in and throat holds them...Mrs no longer walks him off the lead. It’s a real problem, was good as gold but since he got attacked seems to have the attitude of pile in before they go at me. Dog that attacked him was twice his size and it ended up on its arse with the owner screaming
  23. Mainly round where I am it’s fallow and try as he might a full grown fallow is to much, he has managed the odd one that’s tripped or pushed it into a ditch but generally they kick him off. Keeps coming back for more though convinced one day he will get badly hurt. Can’t remember the last roe I saw round me but pretty sure a roe would be taken fairly easily but who knows! I would really rather he just gave up on deer full stop, kept thinking a good kicking will put him off but seems to just make him angry.
