  3. My first springer bought as a six week old pup from a lad on the estate I live about 1986 not long after I had to sell the first house I bought due to being on strike for a year and moving into the council house I am in now. She was the last one left and being the smallest in the litter he let me have her for 25 notes she turned out to be the best 25 pound I have ever spent in my life and she also bred some good small type springers that a few mates had off me.

  4. Just back from Orkney so I thought I’d update the lads that commented on the thread. Bit of a trek to get there. 16 hours drive and then the 2 hour ferry. Worth every minute though. Everything mentioned above is true. Friendly people, remoteness, good fishing, plenty of military history and lots to do. We seen some fantastic places with not another person in sight. I’ll be heading back up there but hopefully for a longer trip.

  5. Had a walk around another old pit site that's on my doorstep even though the pit shut in the early 70s and the site was used in the play the price of coal that can be seen on YouTube. All that remains now is a big concrete slab and steel girders that's capping the shafts off. I also bumped into a few escapees from Wentworth Park.

  8. I used to run this pair together. partners in crime lol. They soon worked things out. GSP here. Handy for sending into plantations whilst you wait on the other side for a bolt or sending out quartering into big fields and if you know the land well you'll know which way the hares will run and get in a decent spot for a slip, as in the bottom pic. Pointer is out of shot there just to the right. She layed a lot of game on for the lurcher over the year's. I wouldn't mind a lurcher with a good dose of pointer blood at some point!

  10. Went for a walk with a mate of mine I hadn't seen for years he had a GWP bitch and a whippet saturated bitza. The dogs were rough and tumbling when the GWP froze and pointed to an area of rough grass. The whippet didn't need any invitation and immediately put up a rabbit. She missed it but got very close. I really enjoyed seeing them work together. Apparently they do it all the time. Surprisingly the GWP did not join the chase but kept checking out the area of rough grass. Anybody any experience of running a pointer or a spaniel with a running dog?

  18. I think that’s how I would be. I’d love to live somewhere remote but I’d also like the option of getting in the car and driving to see family and friends without having to rely on a ferry or flights.

One of the massive reasons the British army is so good is precisely because it’s a volunteer force, professional people who WANT to be there…..these f***ing non starters cluttering up the jails have no place amongst these lads, they ain’t fit to lace their boots. If they want them to join up, tell that c**t Zelensky that instead of a gazillion quid we are sending him a load of weed heads and muggers and county lines wogs to push straight into the front line so that they can get ruined by some Siberian who grew up in a village with no running water, a thousand miles from civilisation,

  32. I tried similar when I bought my first kelpie. The intention was to use him as the indicator/bushing dog and for the lurcher to be the catch dog. Unfortunately, the lurcher stuck to what he'd always been doing (bushing his own) while the kelpie waited outside. Result: the only rabbits we caught were caught in bushes by the lurcher. Then, literally the week I rehomed the lurcher, both kelpies caught their first rabbits in opposite corners of the same field. Several people have told me over the last few years that they think a gundog would suit my temperament and the way I work my dogs

  34. Spend years destroying national identity then declare people need to serve nation service They are off their heads. Just an extra insult to decent working people. Can you imagine the scroats, scumbags, habitual criminals..... ie. The very people who should be made to do national service..... can you imagine them actually signing up I actually think the Tories want to loose now....if they actually won this next election they would sh!t themselves

  35. I took my eleven year old daughter (now twelve) to see the beat at the wedgewood rooms in Pompey in March. After the gig a bloke in full harrington, pork pie hat, DMs etc came over and said to her, 'I know you feel tired at the moment, but when you're older you'll thank your dad for bringing you to this gig.' When I told him she'd already seen Madness twice times and we're going to see them again on Father's Day in Southampton, he told me that, many years ago, he was invited by his mates to see a new band in a pup around the corner from where they were living in North London. When he tur
