Wow, that really look smart, nice touch with the 30 06 case on the pommel. what sort of money would that sell for.

No wonder I never see many deer reports on here if you can't see them, sat there plain as day.

How Many Rats Can These Mink and Dogs Catch?!?!?
Rabid replied to Minkenry's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Nice one, enjoyed that. you need a holiday over here, love to see you all clearing my rats up. -
Nice one, will be a good little retreat if you get it done, a decent telehandler would lift that no bother, the legs are bolted on, so could unbolt them if needs be. where there is a will, there will always be a way. best of luck.

Not really, I've seen plenty of young born in Jan/Feb. i just hope we don't get a massive Cold snap now as I for one need more rabbits about.
-
Exactly what I was going to say, and also we seem to have a very high fox population these last couple of yrs. i have caught/shot rabbits showing signs of recovering from mixy

Very smart, I also didn't think they would be in as much brash as it was. Whats the catch rate when working like that ?

Starting a small shoot

Best of luck, I don't know hardly anything about your neck of the world, what I do know, no matter where it is, a lot of hard work can be undone very quickly by a couple of stupid moves. you only need a dog running amok through the cover a couple of times and the birds soon move on, usually by innocent passers by. keep your feeders full, try a few drops of aniseed in them. partridges will either like the ground or not, seems no matter what you do, they either stay or leave ! get some good cover for the pheasants, feed in some straw so they scratch around, wher -

Starting a small shoot
Rabid replied to Flairball's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Ha ha, so many variables on that one, what's your keeperin skills like, what's your neighbours keepering skills like !!!! Will you be dogging in, will you be feeding to hold the birds in,, will the ground hold the birds or is next doors grass greener ? what sort of shots are your guns, you could put 10 000 birds down but if they can't hit them................. Is your bag limit a daily limit or season limit ? IF everything works in your favour, you need to reckon on a 25-35% bag of released birds, at least that's what we allow on a 300 acre shoot that we really don't work very -
If it's anything like the handheld spotters, they refresh every so often and freeze, you hear a click and it's off for a second or two, then comes back on, if you look on the bottom line in the view, you will see a timer that's counting down just before it refreshes.

I would love to find out they are in my area.

Yep, half a dozen or so eggs around and in the entrance to the trap, and another handful the other side the treadle, works every time for me, I used to lure them in by putting them out every night and catch them on my cctv, fascinating just how quick they pick them up. i don't think they brought the foxes in, I already have a few thousand birds in the pens to do that ! But every time the eggs catch before a dead bird or rabbit.

Yeah I've tried it, bloody stinks god awful. Not sure it made any difference if I was truthful.
-
Best bait I've ever tried.
-
I was thinking two round bars against each other is a mighty fine hair trigger, I did think a flat on one of them would stop false triggers
-
Yep, nice one. my bait of choice is eggs, works better than any meat I have tried. again I have video footage when I have put eggs out, and rabbit, and chicken carcass, foxes have sniffed the meat then taken the eggs away, I always put a few eggs out around my trap entrances and just in the door.

Thanks walshie, all makes perfect sense now, even the grass and blu tac ? I am right in thinking the bar from the treadle is NOT fixed to the parallel bar to the door, just tucked behind it and the weight of the door keeps it there until the treadle is touched ? also the parrellel bar cannot be fixed in anyway to the door, again once set in place the door weight holds it all in a loaded position. i get the locking idea, I made one with the door that opens out, with a drop down bar to lock it. how is the door hinged to the top of the trap ? Thanks for the pics, another

Really, a soap, my oh my. No surprise I wondered who it was.
-
Yes please walshie, am always looking at new ideas, I have a few traps, all with different designs, tweaking them all the time trying to improve the idea. Building two or three more soon so be very interested to see what they have. myersbg, I know I'm daft, but tying it with grass ? i have one that can be set as a hair trigger, or require a fair bit to trip depending how I set it. the biggest problem I have is the fox pulling at the bait from behind or side of the trap, I've watched them on camera and they actually seem a bit daft, they often don't even go round th

What's the chance of been able to get some pics, I make my own traps, but always struggle to get a good trigger/door system.
-
I generally shoot most everyday depending on what work I m doing and how busy things are, but weekends are normally a pretty safe bet for a good few hours out

Yeah genuine fenn, came from fourteen acre originally, fella bought a box full and never used them so I had them off him
