  1. Reading through this thread, i just think that SHH has made his mind up and it would be better for him to part with the pup. No point telling him your own senario's with pups because he has countered everyone of them. It's simply not worth him having his nerves shredded worrying about what could happen. We'd all be better off finding a decent working home for the pup, rather than trying to pursuade him to keep it. ?
  2. No mate, my post is only up because i yern for past times... Feeling you here Tomo. Stick with it and you may be blessed... ?
  3. Were these to the lurcher world what Cunningham-Rice Border terriers were to the terrier world in the 80's... The Shooting News eh... ?
  4. Possibly my/our fave programme on tv. Like some of the comments before, ain't gonna lie, was watching it for her looks (age), against his looks (age), against their life on that hill... And now, its just total admiration, for their parenting, ethic, values, effort, toil, outlook and everything else And long may it continue...!
  5. With the line of half cross lurchers i once kept, the best of em (size and ability) came from close family breeding. ?
  6. Seen The Duke a couple of times up at Lowther in the 80's carrage driving. That's some sport to learn and he was bloody good at it..! A good man, one of the better ones in the RF. Hope he has a good send off... RIP
  7. It's got little to do with the dog imo and everything to do with the trainer/owner. The bull bloods i once owned suited my (limited) training ability and they hardly put a foot wrong. I was proud of what mine could do, from a training point of view. Even better was the Lurcher x Lurcher dog i had from Joe, he was so easy to train to a decent standard it was effortless. The same with others i've owned too. Pastoral bloods i've owned, i done well with but i always knew 'i' was limited not them, in what i wanted them for and how far i could (be bothered) take them. I admire those w
  8. I know very little about cattle Wilf (bar to stay clear of bullocks whilst lamping) why that breed rather than the smallholders fave, the Dexter?
  9. I read Pierpoint hung one of his regular pub customers. Watch the film 'Let Him Have It' for a great insight to how someone is hung. ?
  10. I put that post up above an then started reading through the thred and watching the vids... FFS Thank feck i lived where i lived an we had the Quad... ?
  11. She's decent but its all got far to stylised now, i much prefered it raw... ?
  12. Thats just simply a great post to highlight just what a real working whippet is capable of... My first working lurcher was a whippet (with a good splash of greyhound for the tracks) and she was some animal, punched far beyond her weight and she was used and abused like a dog can be with a mad keen school kid owner. On her death I remember my dad looking at her scar riddled corpse and saying she'd had a hard life... No shit..!! Youngster i've been out ratting with a few times has one the same, just a bloody good dog, thats had the time and effort put in, without any safety net and the
  13. I'd agree with that, though it's certainly not badly written... ?
  14. Common sense ain't that common... ?
  15. Seen and owned a few dogs with a fair amount of Deerhound blood in them and all the best ones also had a good drop of collie blood too. So i'd be looking at a Deerhound Grey x Collie Grey before anything else..
  16. Books... Nathan - DBP Crazy From The Heat - DLR Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee - GG Cider With Rosie -LL Kes - BH Come Dawn Come Dusk & Green And Pleasant Land - NM (can't choose between the two!)

    Pet hates.

Pet hates... Gemma Collins Working dog adverts that say shit like "wont be begged" & PM for price Dog lads that moan about the state of working dog shows these days and have stunning, well worked dogs! Dogs that always take a dump right in the path your walking. Kennel whiners That queer weather bloke Thinking of more hates that will come to me the second i hit 'submit reply'
  20. I'm in/was in the same boat. Took 6 nights out, over many miles to finally nab a rabbit for my pup local. It was soul destroying, if i'd of had my old dog i'd of caught rabbits every night but it's bloody difficult with a pup. Eventually we got one and it was both worth it and nessesary... Keep at it, don't give up, put the effort in and you'll be glad you did. We've got stormy weather coming this week, get your lamp charged... ?
