  1. Yep, i am allergic to dogs and both fur and saliva can cause me problems. Though it lessens with my own dogs and provided i follow basic steps i'm fine. That may not be the case with others who have 'pet' allergies BUT you really wont know until you give it a go..! There are no 'rules' with pet allergies as in what type of dog is 'better' but breeds that shed less are prefferable, same with coat types. Breeds like poodles & bedlingtons softer coats are easier on the skin than short coats like on a Stafford BUT dependent on how much you want to live with it, you've just gotta try. My l
  2. For anyone who would like to learn more about Lifesaving skills, the R.L.S.S - ROYAL LIFESAVING SOCIETY teaches everyone, children and adults, the skills to save both yours and someone elses life in both open water and indoor pools. The RLSS are the governing body that qualifies UK and international lifeguards with the N.P.L.Q. - National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. They are the best in the world and are used as a yardstick for almost every other country. Many pools have a Lifesaving club who use the facility, which you can find by a simple call to your local pool. Or you can conta
  3. Thats a sad but great and important post mate ? Swimming first and formost should be taught as a life skill.... It is essential that ALL children are taught and taught well. To me, i see it as every parents duty to put their children through quality swimming lessons, that should last throughout their school years. I've been Lifeguard trained for 40 years, worked for the Inshore Rescue on the Mersey and sadly have witnessed some real tradgedys from poor and none swimmers.
  4. RIP, Scouse genius Tom...
  5. Over 30 years ago mate. Cowan/Tyson blood.
  6. Got to agree Phil, done the same myself. These days i'd rather get on 'better' with a lurcher than not, no matter what it's capable of...
  7. MC, it really doesn't have to be regular, just as long as it can. I'm not wedded to one type of hunting with a lurcher these days and like a jack of all trades. Like i said, maybe i'll look to more coursing blood in the future, if this scruffy mutt ain't up to much but there's a season coming up to test her plenty and so far, so good... ?
  8. Seen some good un's bred the same Tat's. Though many would not take foxes.
  9. I've not owned a coursing dog for over 30 years but now i'd want a dog that will try to stop a hare in one field, not run it over three. I also want sommat that will return almost as fast as it went out. I've always had a problem with dogs that didn't. Maybe i'll go back to full coursing blood but not yet... I'm hoping that the coursing blood in my little bitch does what i was told it tries to do, which is pressure it's quarry and try to kill it quick and the bull blood in her will have her return to my side asap and i'll gel with her better too! Sadly, knowing my luck, i'll have a t
  10. To be fair, yes, I like a drop of bull blood in a lurcher. I worked half crosses long enough to know both their strenghths and weaknesses and I just get on with them, we worked well together. Thing is, my game has changed so much over these past years. I really don't need such an animal anymore. As an opportunist hunter, what i need is what i put in the post before, something fast enough to be able to catch day and night. I'm just hoping this current youngster has got enough speed for them daytime runs. And if not, i'd need more coursing blood but i don't want, nor need a 'full' coursing
  11. I'd agree with Charts on this one, sommat that can stop gear during the day (hopefully in the same field, for a sharp exit!) Whatever that dog may be, i can spin some critters at night too... ?
  12. Them 'Footsoldier' films are the biggest pile of shite on the box. Just fecking cringworthy... ?
  13. Lovely cauli that ? We do a nice veggie lasagana, using roasted veg; butternut squash, onion, cougette, mushrooms, garlic (whole) etc BUT we slice a cauli flat, drizzle with olive oil SnP and roast it on a seperate flat tray till it just starts to char. Then add it to the white sauce layer of your lasagana. 'Effin game changer... ?
  14. Carl/Rudeboy it's good that you got the nod about your dogs from Plummer, such a well known writer would surely boost sales BUT modest and genuine, even Plummer himself would say he was an ego maniac. As for genuine, that is most peoples biggest critism of the man, he lied constantly both in his books and his life, fabricated photos and much, much more. Don't get me wrong, i still really enjoy his early books and think they are very entertaining BUT genuine, certainly not... ?
  15. Agreed, i'm far too hard on footwear to be forking out on expensive ones. Had a cracking pair of Toggi Wanderer Espirit that lasted two years. Bought another pair which lasted less than a month, sickener..! Them Solognac are really decent for the money, though i'm on a pair of Aldi neoprene that i bought in Feb 2020 and worn daily, they are still going strong. As well as lamping, we had a good few ratting jobs on a huge farm after shooting finished this year, putting a good few miles in on full days between flight ponds and pens. It was a grouler and them Aldi specials did the job....
  16. Seen a post FB dog page yesterday with the title the stubbles are here or sommat like that. Where a hare gets kicked up and is nailed within a hundred yards. It got the usual ton of 'likes' and any condemnation that it was mid summer, was met with the 'only starting a pup'... I have no problem starting a pup at any time, because that is dependent on when that pup was born but i just wish folks would think about glorifying it at this time of year...
  17. Montane are great bits of kit BUT best worn next to skin or with a very light, wicking top underneith. It's only a pertex outer layer too, so dont go bramble bashing in one but for a good yomp on a cold day, they are spot on... ?
  18. Some did, the rest of working class innercity Briton ate out of the frying pan and started dropping off their perches from 50 onwards... Doctors in the A&E wards will ask the families of older heart and stroke patients what they did for a living. They get a feel for the lifetime state of health in the patient from that... In working class people, daily fry up breakfasts, spam and white bread butties etc for dinner and a couple of pints in the evenings, Woodbine and Capston ciggies all day... etc The state of heath in this country post WW2 was/is shocking and yet WE have so many i
  19. Yep, a big bowl of Swiss style muesli topped with a shit load of fruit from my garden... ?
