  1. I never use a smoker and ferret combination on the same day. In general i use a smoker, which with a heavy mix will kill most rats that dont bolt and i wouldn't have ferrets anywhere near them holes for a week at least, there's no point anyway. Ferrets i like to save for a quieter, more traditional days ratting.
  2. A mate had a 3/4 bred 35 years ago that loved em. Little Blue looked like a purebred whippet but really got the bug for them foxes but he was what my mate had, the family lurcher and as we hunted more and more foxes, 'ol Blue Boy came with us and got stuck in, he and we had little choice. Fair to say he was far from ideal but he did the job. Granted, when Blue made old bones my mate found sommat a bit bigger to handle things, which i think is only right but that little lad had some heart.
  3. This thought was put in my head a few months ago, when chatting to a mate about what to put over my cocker/bull bitch. I've always thought terrier for a general knock about busher/ratter and was telling him my thoughts on what terrier i'd use. Now this bloke is a digging man but was looking at me with a puzzled look. So i asked him what type he'd use and he just replied, a whippet..! The jury's still out.... ?
  4. I think a dog that knows how to kill it's quarry and has been taken to various types of ground to excercise that knowlage and triumphed, is worth its weight in gold. "He who dares Rodney.." ?
  5. Don't want to ban you nor anyone else mC. You can contribute well but the site can't and wont be used for anything illegal and that was/is why i posted. ?
  6. Right lads, this thread is getting a bit much now. If you coursing boys want to challenge each other, take it to pm, or Facebook, or telephone. This site does not need to be used for that, nor wants to be seen as a platform for anything illegal. Same with personal threats and abuse, if it carrys on i'll pull the threads and more. So please, post by the rules, debate not slate... Thank you ?
  7. No mate, i did offer a few times but he never gave me a straight answer. I think because of what his coursing did for him, his Mrs wouldn't have been too happy if he went. I did take him to the Waterloo cup though, must have been about 1988. He loved that and knew a fair few of the locals and landowners who get free tickets. I remember them talking about his old dogs and those days long gone and knew he was telling me the truth. ?
  8. Decent gear for the price that ? Though you may wanna work on all that 'sweet talk' with the Mrs... ?
  9. Bout the best thing posted on this thread... ?
  10. Must be the opposite to the ones you've seen then... ??
  11. Oh you do like to stir the pot... ???
  12. Great stuff, hope all goes well with it. Keep us posted ?
  13. Cocker/Bull ? - Got no use for a first cross lurcher of any type these days. In yesteryear those early Bull bloods were right up there using quality bull blood. Same with Beddys and quality Rillington stuff. The pastoral boys may say the same with their faves, and though i've owned a couple i couldn't tell you if collie crosses were better then or now. Give me sommat line bred, off proven gear and i'll be happy. ?
  14. Owned a couple of dogs that had a drop of Deerhound blood in em, the best of which had a lot more desert dog blood in it. I've posted this a couple of times on here years back but here it is again for those who've not read it.... Used to work with an old boy, back in the late 1980's, who did a lot of coursing back in his day, which was the 60's and early 70's. Jimmy was a farmer, a tennent farmer on a farm in Halsall, on the edge of Altcar estate. He would always doff an invisible hat to anyone he thought was a station above himself and mutter a volley of unpleasantries under his bre
  15. No mate, have thought about it but it's what i'd put over her and who would want em. I'd love to see something from her doing well and have the chance of owning sommat from her too but breeding just ain't my thing, which is a shame really.
  16. Gettin a bit daft now.... Sort yourselves out or i'm pulling it. Thanks
  17. I've worked dogs since the late 70's and right through till now there's been both good and bad in the game, of equal measure. We always look back with rose tinted glasses but almost nothings changed. The naivety of lads with the media (social, mainstream and online platforms) is the same now as it was when those lads were on the Cook Report back in the 80's. With the real constant issue being infighting, rather than support...
  18. Play nice now boys, play nice.... ?
