  1. If its not costing you too much I would take a chance on it if you fancy it mate. You never see the poor b*****ds off the lead when they are out with there pet owners. My guess is thats because they go off hunting. My mate had a Beagle from show stock that hunted like mad. Im not saying it would have the fine tuned nose of a well bred Beagle to work Hare scent out,but then thats not what you want it for is it.
  2. People tend to cross Bull into stuff that is lacking something in the first place. They think the Bull blood will compensate for whats missing. Personally I wouldnt want to contaminate my Bull/Greyhound blood with the other stuff. the only reason I put another breed to bullx is to get better wind (stamina) a saluki or coursing type dog . I suppose it what your doing with your bullx , if its on a lead most night until it sees its quarry ok , but if its have a lot of runs in a night , bullx with the above breeds is what needed for lot of running If there is plenty of bull in t

  4. Whats the guy int pub thing all about mate?
  5. Anything that makes a dog run and breath heavy will naturally improve wind.. Chasing a lure on a flirt pole can intensify the sprint in a tight circle and 10 mins will equate to a two hour walk..It does not replace walking and being out it just compliments it..
  6. if you look carefully in the reflection of the TV its possible to see you knocking one out mate
  7. a flirt pole is better imo. Start them young chasing rag and move onto leather. You can put a lot of wind into a dog in a short time. Watch you dont catch the dog with the pole and put him off. The sprint chasing of it is what exercises the lungs and heart. Build up steady.
  8. A lot of lurchers dont take naturally to attacking Foxes. When it was legal it was best to let a youngster see an experienced dog tackling a fox and letting the youngster join in the worry once the older dog had quickly despatched it. Bull x Greyhounds or pure Greyhounds or Whippet x terriers were best..
  9. Its this time of year aswell, when only the smarter ones are left. Go out with a bit of wind and rain to cover noise.
  10. All Frank Sheardowns books are good or if you want some comedy aswell try DB Plummer, hes good..I find some books including Doherty and Plummer a bit braggy, but they are good for a story I suppose.

  12. What did he weigh? must of been 100lb plus?
  13. Nice gamble mate, and it paid off for you and the little Russell...Dads always right anyway they should know that by now!
  14. I also lost a good dog in a place I dug regularly and called a puppy spot. Its a hard call to predict what might happen before the terrier goes under, but I guess we all do it, which is fair enough based on past experiences at the place. I know of other places that look like very easy sandy places, but the holes lie under a layer of sandstone and you need bars to chip through it, it always takes a couple of hours toil, looks like a 5 min job! Thats it mate, and places out in fields that have been landscaped over by farmer and end up looking like small places but have lots of deep tube
  15. What do you expect when shes from Yorkshire not a lot
  16. I dont think there is any such thing as an easy earth unless you have done it a few times and with a dog that can push his game back..We recently did a three hole place that turned out a nightmare and 11 foot deep. It resulted in the loss of a good dog too. If you havnt dug it many times with different dogs you just cant know it enough to rate it as easy..
  17. All running dogs need intelligence.. they build up knowledge with experience and thats how they get better. I think a lot of people only see intelligence when a dog does tricks for them, but cleverness is more than that in a dog.
  18. you seem to have an opinion on most things that's for sure. hes got a lot on his plate.
