  3. the dog in the pic is a rabbiter. A good Bullx of mine caught a big dog mink in the water that had been shook from a tree.He took it onto the bank and shook it a lot more until it was dead, but it took some killing. You wouldnt expect a rabbit type dog to do too much with them. Ive dug them with terriers in the past and if they can be reached they were swiftly killed.
  4. chopped and chipped...another unwanted pet
  5. where was this? not Britain. Are you trying to be smug?
  6. There used to be a guy on this site Clucky, havent see him on for a while,he had a hancock dog Tarn that used to take 70-100 fox a season over the 2 seasons I saw him work,he was exceptional. And thats what it is.an exception.
  7. That is the answer. Its as simple as that.
  8. Had some great dogs (to me) over a few years, but then came across Bullx and everything changed. I have been back a few times to try other crosses but they cant compete with the Bullx . Not all good, but like other types it all depends on good breeding.. The main thing is mutual bond and respect. I admire all good dogs and would gladly keep any lurcher type if bullx didnt exist. One of the best and gamest dogs ive owned outside bullcrosses was what can only be described as a Saluki mongrel,he was endless, gutsy and very clever..I get a lump in my throat just thinking of him.
  9. Dogs descended from wolves are used to killing for food and used to killing animals that are born prey animals whos biggest defence is to run. In other words its not natural to kill a fox to eat (except chinx) and dogs are wired to dominate and kill. For a dog to deal with an animal that first of all is not natural food and also fights back with violence that dog needs to have been bred for exaggerated drive and/ or unnatural gameness. Most wild predators are not interested in fighting, they are interested in eating. Thats why I always think if you wanted to take Fox with a dog it should be the
  10. has anyone seen a stoat roll an egg ? if so how did it do it?
  11. I met a whippet coursing bloke on a day out when proper coursing under rules was legal. He told me his first bitch came into season when she was 14months old. She was from very good stock and so he took his chance and bred from her.She gave birth to 4 pups and never came into season again, but he had the pups and 40 years later when he was telling me he had never bought another pup in and only ever bred his own all starting with that first litter...The point is its your stock and its upto you when you breed. We cant help that a lot of plonkers are breeding for the wrong reasons..we should just
  12. what do you mean by FULL Golly? no half casts
  13. 40 years ago i seen a very hard dog trying to kill a stoat out in the open. The stoat was just too fast jumping and bit the dog all over the face. in the end the stoat got away..Its no black mark on a dog.. Cnut down the pub says its an Otter.
  14. A bit of a loaded question your putting there, but why do you think it should be 24months? Surely its upto the owner, but 90% are breeding to make money anyway.
  15. what do you mean by FULL Golly?
  16. nice pup. I would think she will make 23/24 easy. What sort of background do the parents come from,..working?
  17. Sorry if it all sounds a bit negative, but these lads are right. That dog has got nothing behind it. It is just a show dog and all the stories will be bullshit mate. it all depends if you want a real working litter or just buy into the fantasys on offer...im going on experience and i would advise you to find a real working stud dog.
  18. she will be wanting more of that now youve got her started.
  19. Dogs can thrive on meat alone if they get enough, and they love it..Most dogs do not take to sweet stuff naturally ime especially honey. It has to be introduced.
  20. They used to cook all meat, mainly because of the Tape worm.
  21. Bread is a filler like pasta.. If you fed your dog on meat and it lost weight it meant more flesh was required. Im not saying you shouldnt feed bread or whatever you want but to say a dog cant live by just meat is wrong. Hunt kennels with a good round will feed flesh only.. For most of us flesh only is too expensive and or too much effort. Most folk just want to feed from a bag,and mostly there dogs are too fat. Micky Finn Are you American? I have never found a chapter in an American dog book on feeding flesh, apart from the old fighting dog books..Mostly they talk about what bags to feed
