I reckon its no does a bitch no harm to have a run about or to be walked while pregnant and being fit will leave them in a healthier position for when the time comes to whelp, but rats would be a no no and as for working to ground not a chance.

While out with a certain diging club from NI one sunday we dug to a terrier i owned and upon breaking through we lifted the terrier thinking it was a stop and a wheaton was entered to finish off the job.The dog entered like a shot and thats the last we seen of him for about 90min when we broke through to him again still with his quarry but about 20yds away from where he originally entered and lucky to get him as it was windy and dog had no collar on and was completely silent. The wheatons and staffs that them boys worked were class, have not seen or heard from them lads in a long time but good d

Some of the best wheatons i ever seen and had the pleasure to see work came out of NI,also my deceased brother in law had a very good bitch, lived for work, but there all by-gone days.

Plenty around at the moment,we rose about 8-9 on saturday accounting for 3,the cover we were in did not allow for a shot a few times with tree's and such but great work for the springers.

It was your dog to do what ever you thought was right by the dog,BUT you say the dog lost interest and imo you also lost interest in the dog, like to say a 17 month old terrier was not marking is stupid as at that age its just a big pup with no experience.Hope you find 1 that does what you want.

Woodcock-nice to see them back
fat man replied to tegater's topic in Driven, Walked Up, Rough Shooting
Had a great morn on woodcock this morn, flushing 7 that i seen and accounting for 5 with a young 7month old springer making a nice retrieve on 1.The dogs flushed more but in the woods so although i heard them did not see them.Went for a half hour to a pool then this eve and had 2 mallard and a teal so good days shooting, just to add should of had a double on the woodcock but missed an easy bird. -

You are a very lucky man to be able to dig that quarry legal, how many would ye account for in a season.

Plenty of time to get the weight down when it matures and is ready for work, right now feed it well and let it enjoy been a pup.

Plenty of cover crop situated in different places throughout the club grounds and birds released every year and also surrounded by 3 other clubs that also release birds. The area we are in has a lot of tillage farms in it so food source is not the problem, also feeders placed in areas all around.I understand shoots can have bad years but this year is a disaster, hens are even scarce on the ground, but the amount of buzzards and pine martins that are about not good for the pheasant population.I moved to this part of the country 25 year ago and have been shooting it since then and long before we eve

Has anyone seen a decline in pheasant numbers in there areas this season.I am in the midlands in eire and up until last season we had very good rough shooting in and around our local club grounds but this season is a disaster,a lot of walking and no return for it,lucky if you rose 1 cock for the day.I was speaking to a local farmer last wk and he reckons that the buzzards and pine martins are to blame as there seems to be a lot of them about now and as there protected nothing can be done about them. While fishing my local lake earlier this year i seen 4 buzzards together and its in an area wher

Few year back my mate rang me from work asking if i would go down to his house as his wife had herself and the kids locked in and was going histerical as a fox was outside trying to take her lab pup.I thought he was taking the piss but went down anyway and took 1 of the lurchers with me.When i got there she,[the mates wife]was peeping out the door and looked terrified.I asked where she last seen the fox and she said in the hedge that surrounds the veg garden. The had a very large patch of rubbarb and it looked like a good spot for foxy to hide.I lashed a rock into it and had the lurcher on a sl

Better off buying a pup or pups of someone you know and have seen the parents working, pups at a game fare let it be over there or here are a lottery, you take your chance and thats the end of it with no comeback.IMO you would be better off waiting until a litter you know something about comes along and then you can ask the breeder for a bit of history on the parents-grandparents,other litters from same mating and how they are doing, just dont jump in with both feet and regret it in a years time.

Lol,brilliant.

There is an earth not very far from me that was ruined by cowboys, dug the bollox out of it and walked away leaving it like a mine field.I am living where i am now 25 years and have dug this earth from the 1st year i moved here maybe 2-3times a season up until about 4 year ago when these clowns destroyed it,and a few lads of here have dug it with me but have not had a dig in it since even though we tried to repair it as best we could.People always brag about the depths they have dug but imo backfilling is just as important if not more so.

Nice when a youngster that you've reared and entered does the buisness, atb with her in the future.

Only have the 1 bullx Zerky and he works very well for me,if i could have 10 more like him id keep them but both the sire n dam are now gone so thats where it ends.I also have a few black terriers about me that are very well bred and have no bull in there blood and they also do a good job for me,i aint the type that needs to know the ins and outs of every terrier i keep or whether this blood or that blood is in its make up,if it does the job i require and works to the standard i want then that will satisfy me,ps,what end of our little country were you in,glad you enjoyed your stay, had lads ove

Was the fell terriers original job to account for foxs in places that could not be dug or was this just more shit to fill pages in books.

Zerky,1st terrier i owned was a bullxrussell for the simple reason thats what was mainly about me at the time,40year ago and they were good honest working terriers.Back then it was staffx not pit and very seldom were they aggresive or too big for work.I have at the minute a staffxpatt 6 year old and a very good diging dog,1 of the smallest terriers i kennell.I have seen some black terriers down through the years and to say they were big would be an understatement, for quarry to get past them it would have to go through them and i have seen some of these big fell type terriers bred with pittbull
