My lurcher bitch has gone missing on me since 5pm yesterday eve.I came home from work and usual routine, let dogs out and muck out kennels. This bitch i always let out in the open yard along with the gun dogs as she only goes acouple of 100yds to empty and straight back, gun dogs dont leave the yard. She was gone about 15min and i whistled her up but nothing so put gun dogs back in and went out to the road to have a look.I searched for her until 9pm and not a trace and nobody had seen her or any strangers about. The bitch would not have went far as she is 11 year old and showing her age.She is of n

DD,did you ever consider that she may hear the game moving about and thats why she is yaping.I have 3 bitchs here that will all give a little tounge until they get to there game then mute until dug to.I used to have a dog a couple of year ago[dead now] that on his way to locating its game would actually be screaming, many the man that did not know the dog would say he was geting terrible punishment but it was only when he got to his quarry that it all went quiet, just bumping.I also [pre-ban] had a dog that would sound away on fox but on bigger game was completely mute where as in most cases it

I reckon it was more respect for the game that was in front of it,thats why it was baying.

I think PK used to breed a lot of irish terrierx's back in the 80s and there is a chap on here from dublin that keeps them.I had a halfx late 80s but he was not up to much, did not like teeth and only average on rabbits.

Why comment, because he put it on an open forum so people are entitled to comment and give there opinion, and why would he wait until the dog was 5 to start it ffs.

I would not blame the blood RH,i would put the blame on the kennel set up and no offence to you FD but to lose 1 in a kennell fight is bad enough anymore is your own fault imo,i would never kennel 2 terriers together dog-bitch whatever, they are too highly strung and cant be trusted.

I think people's definition of HARD varies.

Almost gave up whem all my dogs were stolen in year 1999-2000,lost the lot even a litter of 6 week old pups but kept goin and went out with other lads working there dogs until i finially got some to suit my own needs. In fairness a few lads offered me dogs-pups but to be honest they were not what i wanted.I did get 1 real good dog and he kept me goin until i eventually got sorted then a lad that i had given a bitch to a couple of years earlier contacted me when he heard and offered me the bitch back as she was heads on for him and i could have her.It is times like these that you know who your r

As said walk her up to a sitter and put the rabbit up and dont slip her unless until she can see it moving, everything should come together then.

No man lives in uk.
-
I would say its because Smithy's blood is in a high percentage of todays black terriers.

Was anyone of here actually on a digs-digs with the dog who can vouch that the dog was as good as he is made out to be,he must have been usefull or there would not be as much hype about him.
-
Know of 1 mans dog that he made prints of and was selling them without owners permission.
-
There is a chap on here that keeps Stevens bred stuff, well originally it was NS but NS told me himself that the chap that has that stuff has a better line of terriers than he ever had.
-
anyone can get in jonnys books just bang a few pics on facebook and your email of him will follow shortly ahahacheers mate il try that now As long as you go along with what ever JB has to say you will be fine but disagree and your f****d.People call certain terrier men peddlers that are at dogs all there lives, bluck is worse than them all put together, sell his mother.

There used to be a chap on here from NI i think had a couple of bullxrussells, looked well worked but have not seen them on here for awhile now.
-
When i started at terriers 1st that was the most common terrier about, bullxrussell, and seen some very good workers aswell of every%.Some tend to be hard and some are also stupid hard but you will get that in any terrier breed. The only fault i seen with a lot of the 1stx,s was they came too big for fox work and were only good for diging the 1 animal back then,pre-ban.When i started at the terriers in the mid 70s there were a lot of bullx about but all in the same areaas ways of travel were scarce then, very little money and few cars among us so the dogs were all bred into each other around the l

thanks for that I found it very interesting an the last bit about temperements you've got it spot it does me bloody nut in at times if they are just going for a normal walk on the playing fields I spend most of my time dragging them there an when there I spend all of the time waiting for them an shouting for the little buggers to hurry up but when I've got them out on the weekend they are bouncing all over an pulling get is all over the place totally different all together they honestly do live for work thanks again The dog i had was as laid back as you would find but a totally different do

Dave, horse fair not the best place to show your lurchers-terriers,might not have them next day?

No offence but there is a hell of a difference in a lab and a springer in an iced over pond, strenght wise and swimming wise even if it was not iced up.I have seen 1st hand both labs and springers work in biggish lakes where the under water current is strong and i have often seen the springers struggle while the labs make easy work of it.The mill at times i would imagine would be fine and a good supstitute to walking or general mooching about, especially in wet weather where you cant get the dogs out but the tank imo is taking it a bit far. They are your dogs and your set up,everyman to his own b

Your mammy must have let you stay up late last night Stevie as its way past your bedtime.

WHAT A LOAD OF BULLSHIT Well Micky you must know best so but,i always found it a lot easier to run a hare to a net at night then in daylight, jmo. It may come as a suprise but i don't know best but perhaps i know little more than you! .....BIT OF STICK IN THERE GOB INDEED Seems we all have different ways and means of doing things, worked for me but sure what would i know, anyway its illegal to net hares here unless you have a permit.

I reckon if a keeper or land owner needs it diging then it has to be done but a lot of lads get a kick out of diging cubs, same lads that you wont see come winter, there tucked up under the blankets.I also know men that keep terriers and will use snares just for the sake of it and come winter complain that there is f-all foxs about, when needs must it has to be done but otherwise your just killing your own sport for next season.

Q,BULL,what size do you reckon the pup should finish at,was it foot beaglex or bigger as the hounds that the lads up that country call beagle i would class as harrier.Mate of mine had 2 full foot beagles, very good on fox but would go to ground in a flash, good luck with your pup, from what you have said its turning into a good hound.
