Just out of curiosity how many of them better dogs that started early are still around today??? As a lot of the younger dogs ive ever seen that started before 15/16 months, they started off great ended up being pts, The dam to the 2 bitchs i entered this season self entered at 9months by accident and done 2half hours before i finially got to her with her game, she was
  2. I usually exercise pups with the older dogs in a big open place where the only harm they can get into is maybe chase a hare and this gets them used to traveling in the boxes and also using there nose a bit on the ground. Then when they come around the 14month old stage i take them out and if they are ready to be dug then i will dig them.I started 2 bitchs this season and both self entered and both have been dug to 10-11 times each and they are just 20 months now.A lot depends on the style the dog works as to how many digs it gets on its 1st season, some terriers are hard to get started but more
  3. I kept greyhounds for a number of years and they were prone to picking up kennell cough with been kennelled in different kennells at various dog tracks. There is a course of pills can be obtained from the chemist[forget what there called] but clear it up in a couple of days, also a spoonfull of honey helps them a lot.
  4. No need for all that work, just run 2 strands of electric fencing around the bottom of the enclosure and 1 at the top and a good battery fencer or mains if its near the house and problem solved,1 dart of the fence and foxy wont be so eager to try and push under or over again.A good battery fencer costs in average around 220euro +10e for wire and your set up,easily erected, you can use an old water hose as an insulater for the posts cut at about 4in and just run the wire through then tack it to post.1st strand around 4in off the ground to stop fox diging in under your fence,2nd around 10in higher
  5. Shooting is easier and more effective than with terriers but this lad comes on saying he has not got a dig for the terriers so far this season and then says he has shot 100 fox on the same ground and wants to get the couple that are left.I shoot aswell as dig, shotgun, rifle but unless there is a real problem fox doing me harm i will not resort to the gun, whats the point in keeping terriers if your goin to shoot every fox you see and as for diging cubs would not dream of it.
  6. Normally kill 100+ but only shot 36 last year from the 2 estates, what does that tell you ya muppet,ya have the place practicaly wiped out and now you want to kill the couple thats left, you are not a terrier man your 1 of these people that has to kill everything.
  7. Be honest you just want your teddy back ahh.
  8. 15 weeks is way too young to have the pup out with the older dog on the lamp, all it takes is 1 bad experience and your pup is f****d for life.Let it have its fun as a pup and when its old enough then take it out with cooca and it will probably catch 1st time out, imagine it hiting electric fencing or barbed wire at such a young age,i have seen the makings of real good lurchers spoiled by by electric wire or barbed on a ditch line, then they will run a rabbit as far as the fence and when it goes through they stand watching it run of to safety and as most catches are made at the ditch who wants th
  9. Thats a nasty thing to say about Fatman, more like a sewing machine. Ye are both a pair of wanking machines, lol,ye would'nt dig worms.
  10. Yeah but your getting on a bit now Fatman, when I was your age I was just about able for that kind of digging. I dont dig,i just carry the shovel and graft and give orders, then when i see the shovel come flying out of the dig instead of dirt i know its time to shut up,lol,Eamon really gets pissed when i start telling him how to dig.
  11. If they did what he says they did then fair play, but to hit on 7 earths in a row holding fox hard to believe,a pack of hounds would not run that many in to ground in a days hunting.I am diging a long time and it has definatly never happened with us so far, there has been days where we have had as many but that would be maybe 3-4 in the 1 earth and at most 3-4 digs. When you really think about it between walking from earth to earth and droping dogs in,giving them at least 10-15 min to settle into the game then diging and then backfilling, well i dont care how easy the diging was this would take a
  12. 3 1meter digs,a 4-3-2 and dug the 2 meter in half an hour, ground must be like the seaside, fair play thats good pest control. We had 2 digs and it took us most of the day.
  13. In 1981-82 i or should i say my son had a wheaten dog that he named chewy as the b*****d chewed everything he could get his teeth into. This dog was very well bred and his parents were game as any but i only had him for a pet for the young lad, could not be arsed bringing it out in the field as it was a liability around terriers or stock.I remember i morning the meter man came to do his reading and when he knocked on the door my son who was 6 at the time promply opened the door to let him in.This dog had seen this man from he was a 6 week old pup and the man had stroked him on several occasions
  14. I bet if the 2 women in question are able to read this thread there pissing themselves laughing, there after geting some publisity on here in the past few days, just look at how many members and how many guests are reading the posts, was just looking at the lurcher section and dead foxs all over the shop on 1 thread, why do people give the anti brigade this kind of ammo as it will only be used in footage against us at some later date by them,i have said it before why people feel the need to put pics up of dead animals is beyond me,no need for it as it proves nothing.oh they read it. The only ones

  16. I personally have never owned a wheaten, but i have seen them at work umpteen times over the years and i would also say i have seen some of the gamest. There then comes the old question as what you call game as the wheatens i seen and i seen a lot of them could not be tied within 20yds of another terrier let alone run lose hunting after working, not saying yours are not game or stock broken just what i have seen of them.
  17. I can just imagine a good game wheaten running loose and its blood up,run roit more like it.
  18. I have a black lab that will hunt up as good as any springer,no respect for cover, she will push through the thickest of cover and very good on a running bird.
  19. Pup done good but now its up to you to hold him back as 10 months is a bit on the young side, give him 1 more handy dig in a couple of weeks then leave him until next season then he will be a good age, very easy to spoil a young terrier.
  20. And to be fair they did the job,THEY been the key word and They made very hard work of it same as the diggers.
  21. No offence to you but if a pheasant in good nick is more important than your terrier then your heart is not really in it anyway.I am over 50,shoot every saturday of the season and quite a few evenings at the ducks aswell but would not miss a sundays diging with the terriers unless for some important reason. Some years back all my terriers were stolen, workers, even a litter of 6 week old pups, left me with nothing but i came back from that because i love the terrier game, dont get me wrong, also like my shooting but terriers has always and will always come 1st.
  22. are you furkin mad,lol....if you like geting raped at every turn,go for it.the government are liars and thieves, the weather is shit, and in general the place is in the shit.....................but if you have money and dont mind paying tripple for everything then its a great place.stay away from mid east, you'll be too close to Dublin, full of chancers ...stay away from west, its barren and full of sheep.stay away from limerick as its a ticking time bomb, lol the only place to live is southern ireland, lots of sporting gentlemen and kind folk. But all in all Id be inclined to stay away from here
  23. Them dogs were shite and anyone that says different must have very low standards towards earth dogs, they were in and out of them earths like a fart in a strainer and f**k knows how many were to ground at the 1 time.
  24. Colour is not an issue but a good harsh coat on a working terrier is important to withstand the weather.I have seen fine coated dogs while tied out at a dig for long periods and they shaking with cold while a terrier with a good coat on it wont feel the cold, same applys while the terrier is working in damp wet conditions,eg,peat earths or land drains can be very wet and often a terrier can be standing to its shoulders in cold water working its quarry so imo a good coat is important.
  25. They must be soft if stopend can dig them with his terriers Liam, lol.
