Leaving dogs running together is asking for trouble, dont matter how long they have been together or what type they are,it only takes the slightest thing to start them off and a terrier with a collar on is at a big disadvantage straight away as once another grabs hold of the collar and starts to twist it will choke the dog in no time, not nice when it happens but maybe a lesson learned.

Easy to say that from a hunters point of view but look at it from a farmers point of view.Im hunting all my life, well since ive been able to get out into the land on my own.I read on here about all this respect the quarry and respect the farmer and his livestock and land. They had an issue with this farmer before so why didnt someone who was involved with the hounds go and make sure hounds would not get into the farmers sheep fields and not create a problem.I know of a few farmers in my area that wont allow hounds on there lands and the hunt folk make sure the hounds are kept well clear of thes

English Bull And Their Crosses Thread.
fat man replied to Lenmcharristar's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I used to dig a good bit with a club from NI and a lot of the white bodied terriers they kept were all ebxrussell types. The man that seemed to be over the club said it was the best type of bull to add to terrier for digging.I also seen a couple that could do the job and were bred by an old friend of mine about 20 miles from me,they were straight halfx and he had both the EB bitch plus a very good russell dog named Badger. The lads from NI had access to very game staffs that they owned thenselves but never xd the staff into there digging dogs. When i was growing up and starting to take an interes -

Morton in a recent post you say all your terriers are bred with earth work in mind, then in the same post you also say that yours are bred to bolt fox and that you actually passed on a couple that became digging dogs. Not picking or anything but in my eyes an earth dog is a terrier that stays the distance no matter what the conditions may be,not just a bolter, just curious or do your terriers stay until dug if a bolt does not occur, also good to see a different breed apart from the usual doing the buisness.

Had a great afternoon on Sunday, only out for about 11/2 hour and came home with 2 cock pheasants,1 woodcock, and 1 mallard drake, ground i was shooting was mostly bog land with little birch plantations scattered about.I would say the pheasants were pushed into it earlier that morn as its not pheasant country, flushed a few woodcock but only 1 presented a shot, the drake was an exceptional size, big green head on him.

Friend of mine has at the end of his hallway entrance to his house a white fallow stag head on top with a white fox underneath in a glass case with a white cock pheasent sitting on top of the glass case, looks good,i actually gave him the fallow head,he shot the pheasant himself but where the fox came from i dont know,he could have bought it from someone.I remember in the late 70s early 80s not sure which there was a fox farm down in the Longford area and on a real bad stormy night part of the shed blew down or something to that order and a lot of foxs escaped, they reckon a good few of them wer

Good goin Marshman both you and the young dog.Happened to me last year while exercising dogs out in the bog.I had a lurcher and 1 terrier out with me and was in a spot where i believed there was no earths as i have walked this ground for the last 26 years. The lurcher put her nose to the ground and away with the terrier close on her tail.I got the lurcher with just her arse sticking out of an earth and could clearly hear the terrier below.Went back to van for shovel thinking it would be an easy job as its only peat soil but 1st i hit chainlink wire and after geting around that and geting it out

Out at the w-cock again this morn, started off great with both myself and my shooting buddy having 1 apiece in the 1st 20min but then the weather took a big change and the heavens opened. We carrier on for about another half hour and put out another couple of birds but could not get a shot off as we were in heavy cover. We were soaked to the bone at this stage so decided to call it a day, plenty of woodcock about and we really had only started on the ground we were on,hopefully tomorrow the weather will be kinder.

I remember the 1st terrier i ever owned,it was a little bullxrussell called Spot.Back then a mate and myself used to go hunting with an old chap from the next parish down from us,every sunday morn we would be waiting outside his house ready for the days hunting. He would open the door when he heard us and bring us in for tea,tea that was that strong you could tar the road with it but we drank it then he would lat out his terriers and an old collie dog.We would each be given a terrier to lead and a tool of some sort to carry while he walked ahead with the collie and smoking his pipe, what he put

Years are certainly flying by,older you get the quicker they go,nice bitch by the way.

Danny what became off the bullx you had,did it make the grade.

Had a good couple of hours on the woodcock recently only prob was i was alone and although the springers flushed about 10 i came away with 4,had my shooting buddy been with me we would have had a good morn. There seems to be plenty about this year even though we have had no frosts as yet, nothing only f***ing rain but plenty of snipe to be seen aswell. The area around me is ideal woodcock ground with birch woods and plenty of bog and scrub land.

Bitch was probably dumped or was stolen and tried and then dumped or someone would have heard something about her missing.
-
Had a patt bitch years back that killed a lot of fox in the ground but on top would not touch or show any interest in them, seen her come out before the break through but it was just a matter of keep going and the fox would be dead on the break through. She was a very placid bitch,if another terrier came up beside her and growled she would turn up on her back and usually piss herself, completely different bitch in the ground.

Any Advice On What's Going On With My Terrier ?
fat man replied to fox assasin's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
If the dog worked well for its 1st season without fault and is still there until you break through then its not a jacker,may7be not puting in 100% but not a jacker. When you say it lets the game push on does this happen on every dig or just the accasional one,a fox can get into some real tight spots where even the best or more experienced of terriers will not get to and from my own experience of sealyhamx's they are not the smallest dog. -
In fairness its a 6month old pup,not going to do a lot of harm to another dog and maybe not do any at all.I have here at the minute a 7-8 month old patt bitch that goes beserk to get out of her run if she see's any other dog-bitch go by her doorway and that includes her dam but when she is let out with the rest she just growls a bit and then just runs about with the rest and if she gets a little rough with any of them then she gets her just rewards and thats the end of it,work and plenty of it will settle them down when old enough, after doing a good shift to ground with a good animal the last

Shot them on a tip on a few occasions but never really went at them with the terriers, too many dangers on our local tip and several pipes running to drains all over the place so a dog could drop in at any time or place and we had no idea of the layout of them, not my cup of tea,RATS,dont like them and in no hurry to get near the dirty c**ts.

My 2 pennies worth would be to source a well bred working lab, never mind all this trialing hype, get 1 from parents that are worked regulary and worked hard at different types of shooting,ie,on the beating line, picking up,wild fowling even tracking wounded game.I have 2 springers which i use mostly for woodcock shooting in very dence cover but i also have a lab bitch that will thrash cover as good as any springer but suffers in real dense cover because of her stature, she is a big animal, very easily trained to what i require from her and also a good guard dog.

All this talk of doing this that and the other to the farmer or his property wont change the fact that 2 hounds were shot and 2 more were injured,BUT by law, dont know what the law is in GB but here if an unacompied dog-dogs are on land where livestock are present then the farmer is well within his rights to shoot said dogs, not that i agree with it just stating the fact he can do it legally.Sheep are such a stupid animal, only have to see a dog in the distance and there away running all over the shop. There was a case not far from me a couple of year back where a mates Springer+Terrier happened

why...........its perfectly legal. We all are aware that its legal but if it keeps geting the bad press its geting at the minute it wont be long before it illigal.Nans Pat your a hunting man, lurchers from what i read of your posts, would you like to have to be looking over your shoulder every time you take the dogs out for a run or dig just because some f***ing ejits get a hard on from seeing there kills on FB. funny the only ones weve to wath over our shoulders at is the coursing club members smashing the cars and driving on, I know plenty of men that are involved in coursing and h

why...........its perfectly legal.Public perception. so if your kid was doing well say in boxing a perfectly legal sport you shouldnt put a picture up of him with a bloody nose, why give em the pleasure of seeing what you get up to. All you gain from taking pictures and putting on the web is attention. Attention seekers and their egos are no good for the sport. I agree and the attention you get is the wrong sort.I am a long time hunting and i have never had any bother while out for a day doing what i do,had english lads over a good few year back that were amazed at me parking along side th
