Remember that evening well,we had run the fox in with the few hounds we kept, leavy's furs if im not mistaken, just on the edge of the cover. The wind and freezing rain was unbearable that eve and Pat brought the young lad to his house to get him warmed up and dried out, pats wife gave him soup and sandwiches and he then came back with his 2 sons with him to help us out on the dig which to our relief turned out to be a 5ft instead of 13,lol.

Remember must be 20 year ago now i had lads down from a NI digging club for the day.We had a few nice handy digs and towards the end of the day 1 of the lads asked if i could get him a handy dig for a pup he had[1st time out] and as i had checked a few earths the day before i took them to an earth that even though i had never dug it before as i found it while out shooting it looked a real easy place on a small whitethorn hedge with 3 entrances. They all agreed it looked easy and dog was collered up and away.He found and could be heard baying away clearly and was marked at 2ft but soon as a dig

Times have changed in every aspect of life.Your hunt terrier man years ago would be on foot now most have a quad under there arses, its all about making life a bit easier,is that a crime aswell.I worked hard all my life from an early age attending, brickies and plasterers when i was only a teenager and everything was either brought up and down a scaffold in a hod or a bucket now they have teleporters to drop everything exactly where they want it on the scaffold.Foxbolter why the big issue against farmers when there the very people you rely on to do your hunting and digging, wise up.

So now your trying to say that no lambs are born in December, your the f***ing clown, hounds, lurchers, terriers, gun dogs, there all dogs dont matter what breed they were,as i have said it was very unfortunate that 2 hounds got shot but they were in the wrong place simple as.

Some lads just think its a free for all when it comes to crossing land. Keep up the shit attitude towards farmers mate. Your right we're wrong!!! And theres me bustin a gut at times when i dont have the bloody time to go shoot crows and pigeons once a farmer rings to say hes sowing a crop and cant see the clay behind the tractor with all the birds landing in to feast. Or a call at all hours to tell me there just after driving up the field and there was two foxes circling a ewe who just gone into labour and could i see if i could come up and plug em. not to mention all the times you get the "ha

1st dog i ever owned was a little bullxrussell, that was over 40 year ago and i was about 12-13 at the time.Me and a friend used to go to an old boys house every sunday morn and go digging with him for the day.It was a 4-5 mile trip on bicycles to where he lived and it was him who entered my little dog for me at about 14 months old and we dug to him with his game in front of him and he having a great time sparring with it,to say i was happy would be an understatement and when Berty said that the little dog had done well i was over the moon.He learned us a lot back then, especially respect for qu

Some years back i bought a partly trained lab, paid big bucks for her as she was exceptionally well bred.At 8months old my daughter let her out of the run for a ramble in the back garden but she rambled too far and went in the field back of the house where both her and a neighbours dog also a young lab were both shot by the farmer. There was no sheep but cows and calfs and he just happened to be checking on them and spotted both dogs on the field. There was also 2 young lads around 11-12 years of age up a tree messing about and said that the farmer whistled the dogs over to him and then shot them

I can remember geting £23 for wet skins,£25 for dry, drying was not worth the hassle for £3quid so all were sold wet.I know of 2 brothers that used to take from october to end of january of work to go at the foxs and were taking anything up to 15-20 a night lamping with the rifle. They customised an old hiace van cutting a square out of the roof and fitting a shooting rack where the square was cut,1 would drive along while the 2nd would do the lamping and shooting. They would start out at maybe 7pm and return at 5-6 am next morn traveling all over the country.

They might confuse you boys lol Not at all,our dogs dont let them bolt especially the amount Neil puts to ground at the 1 time no room for the fox to bolt.
-
Great to see them doing so well as last season if memory serves me right they were in a relagation battle for some time and then won i think 7 games on the trot, dont really follow the football but heard someone say that the day they beat man city 1 city player was worth asmuch as the full Leicester team. There last few games are tough but maybe by the time its comes for them they could have the premiership won.

PS.i have a small piece of chain fitted to my out board with a clip om the end that hooks into a ring fitted to the boat just incase the engine hits a rock or something to make it pop up,it may come lose but wont fall in.
-
Should be easy enough to get the out board with a net if its only in 6ft of water.Get a good heavy salmon gill net,it has a weighted bottom line made from lead usually and all you need then is a couple of boats and drag the net along the bottom of the lough, easier once he has a good idea of the area its in.

The point is Foxbolter, dogs do not have to attack sheep to be at fault,i dont know what the laws are in GB but here in Ireland a dog that is running loose among livestock and it dont have to be sheep without an owner in attendance can legally be shot for worrying livestock.Sheep only have to see a dog and there up and away so there is no need to stretch the imagination of a pack of hounds hunting through a field of sheep, not nice to see the hounds shot or any dog shot but people can dress it up anyway they like, the hounds should not have been on that land and it was unfortunate that they hunte

Wolfy the difference is that with these cockapoos and ladradoddles at least you know what your buying even if they are charging silly prices for them they advertise them for what they are. With the terrier world you have lads breeding from bushers and ratting dogs and then advertising them for big bucks as digging dogs with a big name on them that has nothing what so ever to do with them. There is genuine men that are breeding good working terriers from a good proven line and selling a few pups here and there and they get slated for it even though there terriers are worked hard week in week out

What's Everyone's Plans Now Season Has Ended??
fat man replied to Ryan1993's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I'll try and star in as many Blue Movies as possible over the Summer to get a few pound together to cover the season. I usually only play a small part though. Gone in 60 seconds comes to mind, lol. -
Good stuff Lee but dont give up on the young dog now just because you have been given this bitch on loan,he could come good next season.

Had a little hatch hen missing this last couple of weeks and had thought that the fox had got her.Today i decided to empty a few ash bins and other stuff that had gathered up in the last few weeks.I went to get the tractor and when i opened the door of the cab the hen nearly took the head of me flying out and on the seat were 17 eggs.I managed to catch her up and put her and the eggs in a small shed that is not used.I checked after about an hour and she was happy sitting on her eggs again, had 1 last year that hatched out chicks in the oven of an old stofe that i had taken out but not got rid o

Thats the problem Chesney, lot of people jumped on the band wagon using all the big names and charging ridiculas prices for pups and studs and little do the buyers or the people geting the stud know that there not the real deal, half the time there crossed with everything bar a bus but yet have a tag put on them.A few year ago i bred a litter of pups from a very good line of terriers. My bitch had 5 pups,2 i kept myself 1 given back for the service and the last 2 given away for free.A couple of months later i met a chap that inquired how the pups were and asked did i sell ant of them, when i told

When i 1st started with terriers all we had about us were mostly bullxrussells of every % and although some were a bit rough most were good steady digging dogs and size wise could work both quarry[pre-ban] without fuss.People nowadays when thay hear the name bull mentioned in terriers they straight away think too big and too aggressive but i have seen and worked a good few of them that were of normal size and steadier than a lot of other breeds of terrier.A fox in a tight hole or pulled out rabbit burrow will cause problems for any terrier regardless of size as some of the places they get you
-
Agree with Rob,nobody is going to put a big terrier in a pulled out rabbit place or small earth and also a terrier dont need to be big to do a good job.Foxbolter what about the fox that wont bolt for your little bayer, your the one that will be digging like a mole unless you can call the dog out.Seen it a few year ago with a mates bitch[very well bred] but although she would stay for ever every time you were about to break through she would let the quarry push her and all the digging was a waste,in the end we would have to try and dig back a bit behind the terrier and then trench into her, unnes
