  1. I WOULD HAVE A BETTER CHANCE UNDERSTANDING MORSE CODE,LOL.
  2. Im not apologizing,i never apologize then you go and say SORRY,LOL.
  3. I had a lakey bitch years back[maybe you remember her dillydog TINY] she was mixer-sounder type but after a litter of pups she would be change her work style to hard as hell for a few digs then calm down to her usual way of working,i reckon she was leting of steam after pups hanging of her for 6-7 wks.
  4. Was out with Neil on sunday Alcapone and he was complaining of a sore wrist,i reckon its them dvd's that ye watch, have ye destroyed.
  5. There is a difference in leting a dog run-hunt up loose and having a dog on a leash marking from 10-15 yds away,we dont or cant let terriers run amock when out for obvious reasons.
  6. Foolish man leaving a ladder lting about and a thief on the premises.
  7. Terrier has got to be able to find or you get no dig, nose very important in a working terrier.Like yourself i dont like opening holes all over so a 1 hole terrier is by far my choice so they have to stay and face there quarry in order to do so.Experienced game wwill soon sort out a sounder so thats where the harder type shine through.I have seen bayer-mixer types in easy places been dug and coming out like they were put through a shreader, hard dog will grab hold and game over and most times take very little. You must have some green quarry were you dig don't care if they go in and as you say ta
  8. Did you ever take time to think a fox may have popped in in front of you and the terrier has got the scent of it?
  9. Big difference in a gun dog on a line of a pheasant or whatever and a terrier in a black dark hole and to say a terrier will know if there is something home from 15yds away is utter bollox.
  10. how you got too look on it is , imagine a bramble bush holding fox , you know its there judgeing by dog / hounds, yes a big earth can be challenging but a terrier should find with ease ...... Have to disagree as some places can be layered maybe 3-4 different levels spread over a wide area and a fox moving about in front of a terrier will leave scent all over the place leaving it very hard for a terrier to locate and also some of the places a fox can go are tight as a camels arse in a sand storm. Then pre-ban when it was legal to dig to badger it could dig itself in very quickly leaving the t

  12. and off a good dig and how long to ground does one of these hard dog take to heal? . Sometimes they can be dug to same day as i said some are happy to lie there just holding on,others can be to ground for less than an hour and not be dug to for a couple of weeks,as said none of our dogs are worked sore or raw and are treated as best we can after a difficult dig.Question for you now Pablo, what would you define as a good dig,in my eyes everytime you enter a terrier to ground and dig it sucsessfully with its game its a good dig no matter how deep or how long its been to ground.
  13. Different dogs for different situations, any terrier will bolt a fox that wants to bolt but its when the fox dont want out that the harder type come into there own as foxy will either bolt or pay the price for staying put.I have seen on plenty of occasions bayers-yappers whatever you want to call them be pushed about for ages and make an easy job look hard where as a harder type will take no messing and get the job done, everyone has there preferences and always will thats the terrier game.good dog's I've seen work well, week after week, such, bark but don't get pushed around, it the other wayrr

  15. I think everyone has a different opinion on what is called a hard terrier. Some will call a terrier that can kill fox to ground on a regular basis hard where others will say the dog just has a nack for killing them. Some terriers are hard on themselves[stupid] where as another can be pure mute go in take hold and just lay there until dug to and without taking any or little grief.I know of 1 dog which is 11 year old now and was dug to 13 times last season in 3 weeks, this dog is mute but sensible in the process, will take hold and happy to just lay there until dug.I have a niece to this dog and she
  16. Thats the job Pick n Bar,plenty of diging keeps the dogs ticking over.
  17. Have to agree with you Mackay,i would wean pups of at around 4-5 weeks once they are eating solids and eating well, maybe let them feed of the bitch once a day in the 5th week,i have seen bitchs that wont allow pups suckle after 4 weeks or there abouts. It allows the bitch to come back to herself a lot quicker than if pups were hanging off her until 8 weeks old,i also do bitch for parvo and worms 2 weeks before she whelps so pups are healty.
  18. Shooting plenty of both mallard and teal on a local pond we are feeding + other ponds in the area, seems to be plenty about.
  19. I reckon you would be better off using a ferret, lol.
  20. Game housed up in a drain is not easy to cope with as the terrier cant push it to a stop as there seldom is a stop in a drain so its up and down for hours unless your lucky enough to bolt it,its in situations like that where a hard type dog will take a lot of grief as pick and bar's did and paid the ultimate price for his bravery ,dog done what he was bred to do and went the distance but paid the price.
  21. Maybe 20 year ago there were more working borders about than there is now and a better choice of stud for a russell.I reckon you could breed a lot of borderxrussells before you will come up with what you want so why waste your time when as you say you have russells that are doing the job.I have seen 3 what i would call good working borders in 40 years of diging and at this minute i dont know of any,not saying that they are not out there but they are scarce, more is the pity as they are a type of terrier i quite like.
  22. Remember i cooked you a good breakfast, lol 1st time you ever ate black pudding, lol so the least you can do is send me on a copy, only joking, best of luck to you with the books,i will bet they will make a change from some of the shit thats been printed.
  23. Kennell cough will just run its course same as a cold in humans, various treatments can be got for the cure of it but it will still take much the same lenght of time for your dog to come right. When i used to keep greyhounds it was a common thing with moving from track to track and kenneling dogs in different track kennels around the country. What i used was plain and simple, spoonful of honey and brown sugar mixed,it mite not have worked but it seemed to ease the cough,as said it will run its course.
  24. Im sure you will enjoy your hunting a hell of a lot more now you have met this old chap and he will enjoy your company.I had a man who was in his early 80s that used to drive up to me from limerick which is a good 2hr drive 2-3 times a season to dig,he beat cancer 3 times but unfortunetly it took him in the end,a real old gentleman that loved his hunting,R.I.PJIMMY.
  25. Fully agree Pablo, there will be pricks in every type of sport from hunting to fishing to different types of ball game.Blaise loves what he does and fair play to him ,at least he is out doing a bit and not just talking about it like a lot of lads do,as i have already stated,if thats the way he wants to conduct his buisness then crack on,just not the way i would go about it.I reckon that he would actually ruin the makings of a good earth dog when young by sticking it in a place with no collar on and the dog then has to do a hell of a lot more time in the ground than should be required of a young
