Phil Lloyd replied to EDDIE B's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Just tried a new, improved Fenn Mk 4,...incredibly powerful spring,..would kill a Stoat easily,.no fecking doubts about that,...but,... -

In my opinion,...not all lurchers/running dog composites will retrieve their catch,...fact... A sensible and caring owner sometimes has to accept that fact...- 36 replies

Super style of running dog, ideal for the man who wants to have a crack at whatever rises... Seen one or two really nice animals,...could have done with them back in the day...

It is a terrible thought, that some divvy fecker would ever attempt to inflict pain and injury on a beautiful running dog, just to save a poxy hare or rabbit...

Is This The New Stoat Trap?
Phil Lloyd replied to EDDIE B's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
You are correct Eddie,...times are a' changing... What we did do, and what we had best be seen to be doing now, is destined to become the order of the day... This fecking Stoat thing is ridiculous,...quite how it all got to this I'll never know Hopefully, as stated earlier,..the Fenn will remain,..put on some muscle, hit a bit harder, then maybe we can all go back to how things were... If not,..a viable economic solution will have to be found,..however, same as when the Gin was banned and the Fenn came in,.they old Keepers ain't gonna like it. -

retrieving dummies like a Labrador but not lamped rabbits
Phil Lloyd replied to rob arnott's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Facts are,..(and I do hope my opinion is of some small comfort to lads, who try so hard to get their dogs fetching captured game back to them),..that..not all lurcher type dogs will retrieve. It is annoying,...even a deal breaker for some owners,..but, unfortunately, I believe it to be a fact. There are no canny tricks or mysterious techniques to force a regular retrieve of a live and kicking, squealing and scratching edible quarry. I start all my pups on the fetching business at an early age and endeavor to instill in them, a kind of behavioral pattern that hopefully becomes in- 36 replies

Well, I'm a bit of a soft touch with my dogs,( never used to be)...but, nowadays I tend to keep them as Pet/Companions... Curiously enough, I haven't noticed all that much difference in our contemporary rabbiters, to our older style 'serious' workers. We can still have a weekend away on the good productive ground, and catch whats on offer, ..but achieved, without the former hassle, stress, and strain... Dogs should be a pleasure to own, train and to live with, if they are not, best to part company for the happiness of all concerned
