Well,.. I am going to save his soul,... I feel it is my duty as a veteran lurcherman, to bring him back into the fold... now go in peace, my Son...

Who said that I had not met Whin? Considering our geographical locations, plus our diverse interests,...how would Whin and I,.. ever move in the same circles... There is a wee bit too much assuming, and not enough actual certainty, in this old game methinks... Actually,... I feel as a soft-hearted fellow myself, I should pass on some advice to this much-maligned fellow. I'm not too keen on the bullying he receives from folk,... I feel sure that I can educate him, as to why this is occurring.....

Personally,... I think that wee guy is woefully misunderstood...IF we ever get to meet,... I feel duty-bound to put him straight on a few matters...

Could a member be so kind as to point me in the right direction to purchase a decent Folding Knife? I seem to be encountering wounded deer on a fairly regular basis,... and I require a decent tool to assist me, in alleviating their suffering. Working in the woods, I am legally permitted to carry a fixed blade knife, but I feel it would be easier (and often far more discreet), to have a good, strong folder in my pocket. I am aware of the Opinal knife and I did have a couple of these excellent tools for many years, but I was wondering if any of the more modern, reasonably priced

I agree,..maybe get up the local market and buy a few really nice frames... Those pieces of art will look a whole lot different once they are 'up on the wall'...

I think it is a mistake to 'read too much into everything',...no book on God's earth can ever match being out there yourself,..but it would be a miserable fecker who could not get some degree of pleasure and enjoyment, from looking at well-taken images, of beautiful running dogs,..after all, that is our thing, ain't it..

Phil Lloyd replied to Terry Ermann's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs

"I refer the honourable gentleman to the answer I gave some moments ago". All sorted, and a valuable lesson learned.. we won't get fooled again...

You heard right fellah,...that event occurred back in 1986... Been around cur dogs since 1958, had all sorts of crosses and types... Never been bothered by thieves and vagabonds, until 2014... Been pretty lucky I suppose...

I think it pays to show kindness to others less fortunate than ourselves... Mind you, when me and Rosy went out on our first date, I saw a poor begging man sitting outside the Cinema,..he was in some fecking state... I gave him all the money in my pockets... This was the right thing to do, but, I suddenly realized that we had no money left for the bus,..so we had to walk several miles back home... I must have impressed the gal with my ways, cos we have stayed married for over 40 years...

Is This The New Stoat Trap?
Phil Lloyd replied to EDDIE B's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I do hope so... Manufacturing has moved on somewhat since the earlier days,.. I'm sure some canny engineer could work something out. Mind you, it has got to be a financially viable product from the outset -
Over the years I have found it best not to say too much about one's dogs or ferrets. Continuous boasting, bragging, and self-praising can sometimes cause jealousy and even bring in, the verminous thieves The all-consuming desire for fame so often ends in tears...

I wouldn't worry about the exact lineage of this Bedlington influenced jukel,..just enjoy him,..inevitably, what will be, will be... All the best, Phil.

You guys live like Kings...I would love to try some of that...

Had a few of the NLRC Field Trial and Obedience Test Champions stay with me, darn sarf... They were all Goodfellas,..real keen on their hunting and all with a genuine understanding of dog handling. We discussed several aspects of lurcher work, both in the artificial arena of the showground and in the hunting field, plus pondered upon the various methods required to achieve consistent results using different lurcher crosses, types etc... All in all, an interesting experience...

Aye, you might well be right,..he possibly laid down his scissors and took a different career path,...truth is, it all seems a lifetime ago. Good luck to the wee guy, wherever he has ended up...

Howard visited me, prior to penning his Net Making book... I found him to be a very nice man,...I do believe he was a Ladies Hairdresser...

Is This The New Stoat Trap?
Phil Lloyd replied to EDDIE B's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Back in the day,...I owned a trap that I've always thought could have been modified, improved upon and would be, in my opinion,..just the job for Stoats This was the Fuller Squirrel Trap... For me, the ideal trap for small ground vermin, to take us forward into the future, will of necessity need to specifically target the head/neck of the critter... I've scant practical skills to design or construct one, but I bet someone out there has... -
Is This The New Stoat Trap?
Phil Lloyd replied to EDDIE B's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
With a jump trap, the clearance in a tunnel is critical,...and this high powered Fenn will definitely hit its target hard... However, I am not convinced that this is the way forward. I believe we are simply putting off the inevitable... I originally thought we should stay as we were, perhaps with a slight modification, as regards power, but now,... I am not so sure. -
Good physique, nice well made feet... Unusual pelt coloration...

For a genuine net for the hares, you are best off contacting a man who will fashion one to your specifications... If you just want a short, stop net for the rabbits, to set in gaps or ditches, most commercially produced nets will catch you plenty...
