  1. Goodonya for sticking with this most important task...
  2. Them Dales are really pretty,... (I never catch feck all),.but the craic is reet good and the scenery impressively beautiful... This Summer I am going to treat the Wife to a few days away,..it will be a nice wee break, and I would love to see Yorkshire, in the warm sunshine
  3. What book writers off here, are ya ferreting for W.Katchum? I waited for ages at the Leyburn chippie,..but in the end, I had to put my hand in my pocket,...great fish supper though...
  4. Never been able to get an edge on a knife,...something I would like to learn...
  5. I know how you feel Hily Just returned from a wee hike up the country,...caught enough, and my old lurcher did her best, but I sure as hell missed my young cur bitch... All my dogs will mark a warren,..but as you know,..some dogs, are just so much better at it, than others...
  6. Fabulous craic,..my absolute favorite type of mouching,..only ever get to hunt over such terrain, every few years, but,... I like it...
  7. Curiously enough,...I once saw a beautiful lurcher, ( Socks was there) very similar type to the example on offer. He was walked upwind of a vulpine, and proceeded to, course catch and kill his fox, (albeit, not the best of foxes), nevertheless, he did hit the poor fecker like a steam train...it was over in seconds,..as would be expected, from a jukel of this ilk Minutes later,...he had a fair and square race, against a bolted rabbit across the Wiltshire Plains... He was a rapid sort of lurcher,.incredably well made and really physical, alas, he could not stop this particular
  8. That is a very nice gesture, Sir,..much appreciated...
  9. That fish and chip shop in Leyburn is a winner,...always enjoy my supper in there...
  10. We do have a lot of deer in Southern England...
  11. I've taken some decent bags of rabbits darn sarf, using ferrets and nets,...but, it would be hard to achieve a high score, just bolting them for the dogs
  12. When I was a young boy,...many of our sheepdogs, existed on a kinda gruel /stew broth,..cooked up in a big old metal pot... The Pig farms usually had a monopoly on the bakers waste, but we usually managed to get a big load of stale brown loafs. Our dogs were worked hard...very hard... Even today, I would still allow the dogs to have a few old crusts, with their raw meat and oily fish,... Not really into the scientific feeding of lurchers,..maybe I would be if I was a racing man or a serious coursing enthusiast, but, I'm not...
  13. First thing I always do, is to flush the wound out with Hibiscrub,...get everything clean and pink,.let the dog see the rabbit kinda thing,.. then, you have to make the decision as to whether your needle will be adequate, or you need the services of an experienced hand. As hunting men,...(well, in my case, a former hunting man ) it is essential to seek out Veterinary Surgeons that have a penchant towards the running dog,..most vets can throw a reasonable stitch, but a knowledgeable eye is always better. I've got a bitch here at the moment that I've been blistering and resting up, for q
  14. Brill,..that rough old reedy bit, looks paradise to me,..real proper 'cur land'.....
  15. We headed towards Glastonbury,...it was wet and muddy as per usual, the rain was non-stop and the wind was icy cold. No exciting bands on offer, no sex, drugs or rock, and roll, just the promise of a new life for my old pal's lurcher dog. Lost my dear friend Robin Tarrant to Cancer at Xmas,..it was emotional. I visited him in the Hospice, it was a shock to the system and one which I was not prepared for,..however, it had to be done... Foolishly, and without really thinking, I asked him, 'Is there anything that you want me to do?" The cancer was in his throat, he
  16. Exciting clip to watch,..well done This is mostly the type of ferreting that we do 'darn sarf'... I enjoy catching rabbits along the hedgerows and bankings,..its invariable action-packed, and some ya catch and some ya miss, but great craic nevertheless. As for whippets,.well yes, they can get ripped up and injured, as will most dogs that are crash bang merchants,..its kinda goes with the territory. I remember chatting with an ancient rabbit catcher,.. some 40 years ago... He owned a jet black, lean and mean whippet dog. The animal was super keen and sported a pe
  17. I've done all that I can do, blistered, rested,.lived in hopes... Time for the man... I will be heading that way shortly,...torn ligaments are a right fecking pain...
  18. Nothing much beats, a big old whippet or a racy Beddie /Whippet, on top of a warren,...they are quicksilver fast... But,..being a lover of all the various herding breeds,... I do like a sensible Collie x Greyhound ... Mind you,..it has got to be easily schooled and pleasant to live with,...or such a hybrid can be a fecking nightmare...
  19. Tell it like it is, Luca Brasi,..you just make them an offer that they can't refuse...
