  1. Now you have gone and confused me... You say this hybrid type is overrated,...but, then maintain that... lots of folks could not give one enough graft? C'mon now,..which is it, Sir,..... are they no fecking good, or too fecking good,...
  2. If I was twenty years younger, ... and, still, had feck all to lose,...I would definitely own a Bull /Greyhound x Match Dog lurcher,...
  3. There have been many different styles of manufactured Long Net basket. I've tried several and in doing so, the problems stand out a mile, as do the modifications. Daily usage amidst the field of battle, usually produces fresh ideas and further improvements. Personally, I enjoy the feel of my traditional Hemp long nets, especially after dark,... However, when running out yards and yards of nylon sheet netting, the old basket system is really useful...and other than flinging down a pocketful of purse nets to cover awkward bolt holes, I doubt that I've bothered with the we
  4. I have kept several letters of correspondence, from various well-known faces within the hunting fraternity,..sadly, most of these unique characters are dead. However, unless their contents were beneficial to modern research or of historical importance, I would be loath to share private words with strangers. Amongst us humble rabbiters, there has always been the maxim,.."What happens on the Warren, stays on the warren"...if ya get my drift... There are exceptions of course...
  5. Well, I've been about a bit I suppose,...but it's mostly been, a Comedy of Errors...
  6. Beautiful animal... You are so lucky,...I used to have dogs like that...sadly,..not anymore...
  7. You are right there Trigger... With some dogs it is a few second's glance,..a quick, tip ya the wink kinda thing,..and you need to really know your dog to catch it... Whereas with others, it is far more obvious... I once had a canny cur that marked so strongly that she had to be physically dragged off a Warren before she would leave it... As we did this she always seemed to give us a bewildered and frustrated look of, 'Ya C**ts, there is a rabbit here, for feck's sake get the ferret in"
  8. Hi, my wee cur bitch has injured her foot and sustained damage to her toes. I could do with an anti-inflammatory, such as Meloxicam... Does anyone have a link where I could purchase some tablets? All the best, Phil.
  9. Well,... I like Collie x Greyhounds,... I find them just right for the mouching/ferreting/rabbiting game ... I prefer the bitches, as they are generally a tad smaller than the dogs and can still easily pursue a bolter, in and out of the hedge bottom, without too much injury. A further improvement can be often be achieved, by dint of whippet blood, this can reduce the overall size and makes them really handy, for the hedgerow rabbiting enthusiast... Yeah, Collie x Greyhounds, I think I like em'.
  10. Well, no, I've never actually faced the rigors of the Dales, and perhaps my smock would not be up to the task... In truth, I just don't know,..all I can say is,.I've seen a lot of the Moorland Keepers wearing the Ridgeline Smocks/Coats in various publications and DVDs, and I feel that the Sealand Smock is equal to them, performance wise. Only time will tell... You must go with your hunch,.I always do...
  11. Hunting is hunting,..you caught what you could,....your jukels look tired, but content...
  12. What a wonderful contribution to this thread Lutra Lutra... Your words, come across as being a man from another time,..and as such, they have a genuine feeling of nostalgia. It makes me (and probably a whole warren full ) of fellow hunting enthusiasts, hark back to better, warmer, more friendly days. I am sure we have met You mention TOMO,.and yes, I would have to agree, he is a good guy around the ferrets,...almost as keen as I once was... We need to praise the Goodfellas and vehemently condemn the vermin that skulk in our mixt,..such cruel wasters offer nothing, the
  13. This is not the end of the world,.. and nothing to worry about... I remember my Father gutting out the rabbits and showing me the marbles in the does, back in the late 1950s. Personally,... I believe that many of these first litters of rabbits, do not make it,..the climatic conditions, at this time of the year, are just so harsh. We have often paunched out batches of shushis and found perfectly formed babes within,...as to whether they would have made it, who knows.. Some litters survive, obviously, but I've never curtailed my hunting, whether it be paid or recreational bec
  14. Hi Lutra Lutra,..good to see you awarding such respect to Roger I spoke to him a few times, at Hare Coursing meetings,..he told me of his various sporting passions,... I always remember thinking, 'what an exciting life this man must lead'! Go carefully now,..all the best, Phil.
  15. @ TOMO...Pharaoh Ants are also a pain to deal with,..in fact, I'm heartily glad that I chose to ditch all my Domestic and Commercial pest control work. I said goodbye to the Confused Red Rust Grain Beetle,..left the Oriental Cockroach and the Bed Bug, to go feck themselves and abandoned the great rat and mouse hunt. Instead, I sold off all my Contracts to the highest bidders,... "You will starve ya silly c*t",..said, my associates, "Without Contracts,..you will not be able to pay the mortgage". Luckily, I disagreed, my resolve remained firm, and instead of spraying bugs,.I
  16. To be a dealer in dogs, you need to have a certain mindset... I remember a commercial breeder once telling me,.."You would never be any good at it, Phil,..you ask the buyer, too many questions" All things considered, I've always regarded his poignant words,.. as a compliment... My Deerhound hybrids, Angel and Royal...circa the 1980s
  17. Wow, looks a great place for a canny mouch. Your colored dog has really come on, leaps and bounds,...looks to be just right...
  18. Sealand Eton Smock,...It's nice and lightweight,..feels good to wear (you will look like a Berber Nomad)... . Admittedly,..mine has never seen rain, as of yet,..but I'm out beating in the morning,..brambles and brash, heavy woodland,..plenty of rain forecast... Hopefully, I'll be reet...
  19. Well, I have never heard anyone say such a thing .so why would you mention it...? Perhaps you listen to silly rumors,..this is always a foolish and frequently dangerous, mode of behavior... Do not quote me when making such claims.
